Hi, Paul, Love all your content. I'm not sure if I misunderstood you, but I think you might have read Primal Prayer wrong. It doesn't turn your energy into mana but instead allows you to spend 1 energy to flash in your creatures. So in theory you can play this on turn 4 and immediately use the 2 energy to flash in up to six mana worth of creatures (if you happen to have 2 three drops in your hand). Not sure if that changes your assessment of the card.
Ah you are absolutely correct. I still don't think this is the type of card that you want to play in your decks. Being down a card is always pretty bad and you're just cheating small things into play. It's definitely better than my initial assessment but still bad I think.
Thanks Paul. Looks like Green kind of sucks IMO. Is tempo flyers + removal gonna be hot in this format? If so I will be buying gems. That's all I like to play. Enjoyed WB in OTJ. I saw UW is tempo flyers but I don't know if has the removal? Other viewers, remember to like the video. He is a good creator and we want him to get more views.
Green has solid ramp effects and really looks like it wants to try and cast the large Eldrazi in the set. We'll see if it can go big or if it'll just go home instead.
I love that everybody is "meh" about birthing ritual. I'm gonna buy like 4 of these for my various commander decks that have a tun of creatures with etb and death triggers. I have no idea if people are just sleeping on this card or just evaluating it for modern, vintage, draft etc. where it's indeed not ridiculous, while commander players don't care anymore? Maybe I'm the one asleep? In any case, this goes right into those decks, that already play Birthing Pod, Eldritch Evolution, Natural Order etc.
The 1 mana artifact that counters spells that were cast without paying their manacosts does have some upside in this set, apart from affinity and cycling itself, if you look at the cascade cards
I just don't know that you can reliably count those as reasons to want to play the card. I'm mostly going to look at this as a cheap artifact that you can cycle later in affinity decks.
Are you sure the branching evolution works with "enters the battlefield with x counters on it"? I thought it didn't, since they're not put on. The fun thing about the fanatic of ronas.. if you eternalize it, it taps for 4 too... Nuts
I'm pretty sure yes. This reads a lot like Hardened Scales to me. Fanatic of Rhonas is great when Eternalized but it doesn't seem trivial to eternalize it on demand.
I could see the bestow elk putting in a little work because I assume if you would trade with an opponent creature, you would get the 3/3 right? I feel like it'll go around the table and be low C level removal for big dumb eldrazi that people spend their scion mana for.
@@haumph I tend to agree. I mostly play bo3 so maybe it’s slanting my opinion a bit. In bo1 on arena I can’t see this making the cut often. BUT I’m still gonna elk up a scion for game one time!
This was the easiest way for me to organize things as somebody who makes daily content. These videos already take 2-3x more time to prepare for than a normal video so I need to make tough min/max decisions with how I present the information!
i like the new take on birthing pod, i think you are being a little over-cautious on it. i feel l like i could crank out an entire article on the card, which i won't get into here, but i think there is a lot of potential value. lots of dangers with it too, whiffing over and over is going to feel very bad, topdecking it into an empty board when you desperately need any action is going to feel the worst. lots of great cards have to manage these problems, you have to try to be as realistic as possible about up and down sides. i think you can afford to miss several times, just one really good hit, or a two+ decent ones are all you need to make it pull its weight, getting value equal to a card + 2 mana seems very doable. some positives: its fine on curve if you can't otherwise develop your board in a better way, and then when you draw it late, it's arguably even better, because its at its best when you have more on the board at different costs. i also love that it doesnt cost any mana beyond the first 2, that is absolutely a huge advantage. costing even 1 to make it do it's thing would absolutely bury the playability it makes your opponent play awkwardly, by incentivizing risky blocks, which will make your combat tricks play better, it also encourages them to spend their removal at their first opportunity on your most expensive guys, both of which are subtle but very real incremental advantages. it plays so well with ETB's. of course you want your limited decks to have a perfect curve and all sorts of great ETB's, but both of those things combined can really make this sing. i think it deserves some serious, careful consideration on a deck by deck basis, because when its good its going to be just crazy. if you let me just get the tiniest christmas-land-ish here, a very humble example sequence of: t2 ritual , t3 that eldrazi repurposer, into eot nova-podding into any 4 drop with a decent etb after that you have your 4 drop body you spent 3 mana on, whatever etb bonus you could get to tag along there, 2 scion tokens from the repurposer (plus a body in the graveyard if you have any reason to value that), and the 2 mana enchantment is still there on the board looking dangerous even though you arguably justified the cost with that turn right there i dont think it will be difficult to look at your deck, evaluate your creature density/mana curve/deck manipulation/etb effects and decide if you want this or not, or if its even starting to make it into windmill slam territory. If its too early to have enough information to figure that out, that is the perfect time to pick it up and build around into something really spicy
When compared to OTJ, green in MH3 feels underwhelming. It feels like all the cards are just ramp? Maybe I am missing some synergy somewhere as I have never played a MH set, but this wasn't the high power set I was expecting.

Always appreciate the sick content. Really looking forward to MH3 now!!! May the algorithm Gods go crazy and promote this video. 😁
Chaul Peon for president of Magic. Thank you for the time investment to go over all these cards. It helps a ton.

Nyxborn hydra turn one with the 1gg ramp spell seems kinda like a fever dream of mana lol turn two 3 mana is kinda nuts
You could also just play a mana dork in turn 1
Thank you Mr Haumph 🙏🏻
You're welcome Mr Spjbro683!
Green doesn't feel like the Home of All Bombs like it was in OTJ but I'm probably gonna be in it just as often thanks to eldrazi lol.

Trickster Elk for me is really good, you can bestow into your oponent and when you trade the monster you still get the 3/3 back
When are you exactly turning their thing into a 3/3? Seems like a bad late game situational removal spell that still leaves them with 3/3
Fanatic fulfilling its own ferocious cost I think pushes it very high.
Praise be o mighty algorithm

Yeah but what if you're not playing against a temur eldrazi deck? It seems really weak against the more aggressively slanted decks.

On primal prayers, is it ever notable that you could play it on turn 3 or 4 for 4 mana, and still flash in two 3 drop creatures on their turn?
I guess? still doesn't seem especially strong. I'd rather just play a 4 mana creature and not be down a card.
Paul, what do you think about playing some chromatic cube? Miss seeing your gameplay!
Trying to get all these set reviews out prior to the early access event. Would watching more gameplay footage be a preference in general?
@@haumph not in place of timely set reviews imo
55:20 I think commons in alphabetical order, then uncommons, then rares and mythica makes more sense. Vs all Green cards in alphabetical order
