I remember the "i am suffering from depression" video and i really felt bad for you as i had been through a really bad few years of depression to do with loosing everything (the house i built with my own hands to start and raise a family in and the fact that the rest of my working life had all gone due to spinal injury). My world caved in on me and i couldn't see that i had the problem, not everyone else. Depression is an insidious little bastard that creeps in so you don't know it's there until it's to late and it has a firm hold. One sentence made me realise i might have depression and it was "someone who has lost the fun and joy of everyday life and the love of the things that matter most to them" that was me. I'm kind of ok now because at least i can sort of walk and occasionally ride my CB500 (rarely). Iv'e come to terms with how my life is now but i still have spells when that feeling of dread starts to creep in!! Try and enjoy your life, make the most of what matters to you and let the rest swill around at your feet, if it gets to your knees see someone!! Thanks for all the videos. Ride Safe.
I truly believe (having done it) openly talking about depression is massively helpful to both yourself and other people to realise they are not the only one. it effects so many people who keep it to themselves. it's definitely not a oh poor me thing that's what people use Facebook for. it takes balls to talk about it in a matter of fact way that shows your personal coping strategies and how you don't let it hold you back and in some ways can be a driving force to improve your self and your life.
I don't know about that, Spice ma lad. I don't want to reveal much about the people involved here but I watched a colleague of mine tear himself to pieces because he told people of his struggles. People pandered to him, treated him differently (Not unkindly) but for a guy who had trouble fitting in that treatment sent him awol. I'm not saying that depressed people should stay quiet I'm just suggesting that talking isn't always the right option. The mind is far too complex for a single solution to any one problem especially when emotions are involved. My advice to anyone suffering is to see a GP or a mental health professional so you can gain a perspective on the illness that no one else will be able to offer because doctors can be objective where friends and family cannot.
+Sillius Soddus I do agree talking to a Gp is a good idea, however the NHS mental health system is well know for being next to useless unless you just want anti depressants. it is incredibly hard to get counselling or talking based treatment like cbt via the NHS. I don't think this person had the problem just the people he told didn't know how to handle it or offer the right advise. I have pretty much over come my depression with self cbt. of course I still have days but it's under control. and what I have learnt has helped me help others from close family to people I don't know who watch my videos. just it is true no one thing will help everyone but most will only find improvement though it.
spicy110 You're right in that respect- the nhs isn't as good as it should be and they do tend to Palm people off with drugs- but not going to see the GP is just as bad. My friend worked in a pub owned by two ex nurses. They gave him good advice. The issue was that once it was out in the open he couldn't escape it. I suppose if you're gonna talk it pays dividends to choose carefully those you talk to. Gotta admit spicy, never seen any of your vids but after this chat I will make a point to- you seem to have your head screwed on.
+Sillius Soddus You make a very good point, you have to choose who you're going to tell as the very last thing you need is people treating you differently, making some sort of allowances or worse, taking pity. Good to see this being talked about. Cheers
Hi mate, I would have to say you are probably the the most genuine vlogger always enjoyed watching your journey and look forward to seeing more in the future. Look after yourself mate.
I respect you so much for changing up the motorcycle journalism industry, a change well over due. I even managed to get my 60 year old biker dad (sv1000) to check out your content and he is hooked. He especially loved the recent(ish) mv Augusta review. Anyway I'm blabbing. Keep up the awesome work with 44teeth and put them all to shame, only then will they get better. Just hope they can catch up.
As a member of the Army I am more than familiar with the effects of depression and PTSD. I have lost quite a few mates from it. The fact more people are talking about it makes it less taboo. Well done on talking about your depression Baron. If hearing you talk about it inspires even just one person to seek help and saves their life, you have done a great service. I take my hat off to you.
been going through a rough patch recently with my mental illness, looking back through your videos always manages to bring a smile to my face, the more you talk about it the more comfortable people become, keep up the good work baron!!
Great video Baron. I was hospitalised for depression in my teens and it's incredibly important to get the message out there that it is a common illness and people can pull through it. You show that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Good luck with 44teeth too, I love the channel and look forward to more videos.
I suffer on and off with anxiety and in turn depression and it's affected every part of my life, couple of years ago I fought through and got myself a motorcycle license. Been the best thing I have ever done and none of my worries matter when I'm out on the bike, I can get out and it doesn't matter where I go or why, I don't feel trapped like I did before I started riding. It was your videos I accidentally came across that peaked my interest in riding.
I like what you're doing with 44teeth. At first I didn't care about that channel but it's definitely grew on me. Especially around the time when you did the face revile. Keep up the good work Barron.
Hey Baron good to see you're doing well & enjoying life. Hope your little boy is growing healthy & happy. You replied to 1 of my comments made my day. Appreciate you sharing your life with us & sharing the fact that you have depression. I do too & I feel really embarrassed. Anyways, thanks again wish you the best with all your new ventures & ride safe🤗
Been checking out 44Teeth, so I knew you were alive and kicking, but I'm glad you're back "Von Grumbling". Also, awesome to hear you are thinking about another solo trip. I think your Tour de Baron Series is some of the best video out there on UA-cam and will still watch it every so often. Take care, stay positive, and keep kicking ass.
Getting out on my bikes definitely helps me deal with the loss of my wife to cancer. Great that you are open and honest about all that stuff Baron. Loving what you guys are doing over at 44t as well.
I remember you saying how depressing summer was because you never went anywhere or did anything.. Look at you now! 44 Teeth trailer looking epic. 27k views on here in a day.. Keep on it - you're doing something right!
one of my first motovlog videos was actually thanking my friends and family for being there through depression and all that. and that was after I had finishes seeing a therapist for a while. talking about it helps. and letting people know it's ok to talk about it helps even more. people shouldn't have to be afraid to tell someone how they feel
I'm quite liking 44 teeth, especially the episodes where you and Fagan joke around, it's kinda like the Top Gear (with the epic trio) but with bikes, hope you guys get the epic success you deserve. The editing and sound etc. is bang on too and seems really high end. Big like and wishes of many many double deckers!
Barron I love your videos and more importantly your honesty. You are one of the few open and direct bloggers out there in Utube land. Depression effects everyone in some form. More severe in some people but still most people are dealing with it. You having the guts to talk about this topic in a motorcycle blog is really cool as many bikers might feel too manly to say such things. I wish you good success in the future with all projects and if your ever in Rhode Island please let me know. You will have a free place to stay if you dont mind a couch. We also have a great shop thats been around since 1947 started by the Razee family. Gordon Razee is the owner but his father Ralph started the small bike company after he returned from WW2 in Europe. Like I said I enjoy your videos but what I really enjoy is your honesty. Creeps.
Man we sure freaking missed you! Super glad to hear that the trip turned out to be a success, not too sure who may have thought other wise. Yeah depression is a b!itch to deal with. Makes one depression dealer to another really happy that you got through it. Not to mention sharing how you dealt with it. Much respect to you Baron.
Welcome back sir. Agree about coming out about depression and mental illness, I did a video ages back about my past drug related discrepencies and I got a lot of possitive feedback about it. Since then I've been meaning to do the same about mental illness and how it's affected my life. Through my own depression as well as my mothers but I am king of procrastinating and haven't got around to it and won't for a while whilst my bike is off the road.
I did the tour on my own. Brand new GS, 3000 miles UK>France>Italy>Switzerland>Germany>Belgium. It was awesome. Waiting to upload the footage once I've sifted through it all.
I really appreciate the bit at the end. The other video you mentioned was a big deal and an eye-opener for me personally. You seem really successful, and motivated, and at least outwardly happy, and it would be nice to know how. I also suffer with depression, and am also on the higher functioning end of the autism spectrum as you mentioned you may be in another video (and also 6'4 not that it matters), so if you did do that on a tour I'd love to watch it.
ahhh finally a barroonnggeeee update... nice little lunch break in the sun with this catch up ... glad too see your doing well my freind , one has given me many inspirational ideas and hope that depsite it all we all walk a close path . cant wait for the videoasmic tron about to happen on further updates !
Hey welcome back sir BVG, long time no see. Glad to see you on english rural roads :D Always fun to watch your videos mate. Prends soin de toi le Baron grommelant :P
I've come full circle since our last chat. What a life lesson it was. Looking forward to you helping others with your knowledge. I'll try to do my bit down here ;)
baron i love the way your channels are i think its spot on to have this one for pissing about on bike on country lanes and traffic and track days then use the 44 teeth professionally (no fecal matter) with the motorvlog edge coz those are the bike reviews that make the most sense
Good to see you back, Baron. Not saying you are an alcoholic but I have always liked the saying: Only an alcoholic treats depression by consuming large amounts of a depressant. Only an alcoholic cures loneliness with isolation. Only an alcoholic can have a moment of clarity in a blackout. Anyway... I too suffer from depression and I am most certainly an alcoholic as well (recovering) so I look forward to your vids. I also have a teenage daughter that suffers from depression. This is an all too common problem that has always been taboo to discuss. Let's hear it. Let's talk about it.
Administration fees, duel bike insurance bullshit, modifications etc WTF? good to see you back doing what you do best Baron! Even if you are ignoring my messages, I will keep watching and liking dude.
I'd love to see another tour, the Gsxr one was absolutely awesome. Can't wait to see the 44teeth tour. The trailer looked awesome. Possible of more Gsxr vlogs? Miss seeing that beast
Hi, just about the depression topic there, it sounds like a really great idea, I suffer from depression myself, and while I'm very open about and thankfully have really great friends to help me through it, not everyone does. I mean when I first became depressed I found a worryingly large lack of advice, beyond going to my doctor I had nowhere to turn, and while yes doctors do help they add a level of stress that burdens you even further, so I would say if you do this tour and do open up the topic, go for it I know me and many others would greatly appreciate it. Good video, thanks for the update on the 44 teeth stuff, I really look forward to seeing more content
I really found what you said about the principles you are trying to adhere to with 44 teeth interesting - and admirable - keep it up. In a similar vein, a bunch of us lessor mortals, or lets say newish riders, have been discussing how we much prefer to watch a review/test ride on a new bike by one of our own kind, rather than an "expert" or, even worse, someone who's taking a kick-back from the company selling the bike. I had a lot of comments on an Africa Twin test ride I did along those lines, it was a test ride by someone who knew fuck-all and other people who knew fuck-all could relate, if that makes sense? Anyway, loving 44 teeth and what you guys are doing - all the best to you.
Cracking video. Thanks for sharing. Didn't realise you did a video on the back of depression! I'll give it a watch now. I've suffered my fair share of depression after loosing my daughter. It's indiscriminate and doesn't give a shite. It's defiantly a life changer.
popped into a certain Farmborough motorcycle shop not long ago to speak to a man named Ben about a bike he sold in a particular *color not stated ;)* grey and 1 other color arrangement. and I have do say it is very nice... oh it's also yours... and I want it!
Baron Von Re-engaged! Looking forward to the tour. Am off myself too, does sat nav spoil the randomness do you think? Thanks for the you tubing and am loving the 44th direction, it is a really slick production but stays honest, very original and thus very double decker. Cheers buddy
Printed magazines will die eventually when the older generation realise they aren't reactive enough or have that personal touch that real first person POV recording and reporting that UA-cam has, as well as using new things like Beme and Periscope for quick snapshots and raw footage. We're more connected than ever and the motorcycle news industry needs to keep up or be left behind. Glad you enjoyed the trip and the HPsauce.
So I ride my Hp4 daily and I have the Alpha Racing front position sensor, flatter handlebar angler, higher windscreen and a rounded saddle. Around 10000 dollars was a great buy thou, I love mine. It just floats, well done.
All about that 44 teeth though, seems to be just what I've been looking for because you're right, mags do just go in the fucking bin. Missed your vids lately baron, glad you're back!
Amazing stuff mate, so true about the mental health shit... Just got a thruxton 900 and it just chills me the fuck out. Keep on posting the videos! Jack
You should call it the "DP" Tour. DP for depression, obviously. Glad you had a good time in Barcelona, look forward to more stuff on the sister channel.
Insurance question: I rang up to get a full years quote on a bike before buying it. They said £800. I flipped the bike on my policy as only had 2 weeks left. Two weeks later I rang up to renew and the same comany I asked before company quoted me £1,400. No details changed, or new claims or anything. So my question is how is this legal? and what could possibly make my premium go up so much? Now I have a bike that I can barely afford to keep on the road despite being told I would be able to.
Thanks for the great vid, great to see the von grumble showing up on my UA-cam. Look forward to seeing the new vids. It's an interesting point what you mentioned about the bike reviews from the main stream magazines, they can come across quite scripted and robotic, it's great to watch something different from yourselves which is more spontaneous, realistic, and a lot more fun ha ha.
+BaronVonGrumble Had my licence 11 months, been driving for 24 years, ZX-6R with commute was £650 for 6000 miles PA (excess criminal). Full Car no claims, no points. Once I have my first years no claims on the bike looking to upgrade to an RSV. Apparently as someone in early 40's I am most likely to get over confident and go splat. Is this true? Also heard bikers make the safest Drivers, no tick box for that when I renew my Car insurance....
there was documentary about this bike on the local (german) television - the design process...building, etc. when they put the BMW badge on the side, I flipped out! because I live in the stoneage, I believed that BMW only built horrible bikes with boxer engines and equally horrible purchase/repair prices. who the hell would scrap a bike like this, which needs only 2k pounds sterling of investment to make her good again? unfathomable... good on you for bringing her back to the fold, mate! I just checked what she'd cost to insure here in lower-saxony, germany. a HP4 1000rr built in 2010, can be purchased here from roughy between €8000 to €10000. insurance-wise - fully-comp (with the insured stumping up the first €500 of any large claim) 18 years of past insurance seasonal plates from march to September max. 10000kms per season coverage of all bike damage (fairing, etc....helmet...leathers...) covarage for damage incurred by all wildlife (including vandalism) €15,000,000 coverage for damages vehicle recovery in germany or other countries including medical coverage - delivery of bike to doorstep including a replacement hire vehicle/travelling costs home the whole package costs only €695....or £538.40 in real money ;) last I remember, the insurance in the UK was a tad 'steep' you're right about your suspension there, mate! sounds like you're talking underwater ;) thankyou for being so honest and open about how you felt after your split with your lass. I can only offer you my deepest solidarity, man...and my humble apologies for my ignorance in not knowing when I commented on your vlog ref. the damage done to your gixxer, after 'green laning'.
Master Baron. Just comparing notes :-). I went through " the big D" about 12 years ago. And I have to say if it wasn't for my old FZR I probably would have wasted a lot of time being depressed. I also agree don't mix riding and booze for a few reasons. When we drink we think we super heroes. And that mixed with the speed of a time machine is dangerous. I know I managed to break 3 ribs and cheese grate both arms ( not wearing proper apparel) after pulling wheelies after SHED loads of beer. Truck pulled in front of me while front wheel was in the air and I slammed on back break over gravel. I truly believe I would have been able to save it if I wasn't pissed. Anyways I'm 45 now and bikes have been my constant companion in the back ground. Through some failed relationships and also now that I have found the perfect woman for me. And mate your not the only who buys bikes when financially they should buy a scooter lol. But it feels SO DANG GOOOOOOOD! Take care and look aft u
Insurance question: loyalty or lack of it why do they always on renewal give you an over the top price then when you've been loyal to them and not incurred any claims ? Nice to see you back and on the HP4
Would love to see another BvG trip, but I reckon having at least one buddy join you is more entertaining (to watch). Especially if they crash into a bollard with their pannier.
I don't know why England doesn't do motor vehicle insurance like we do in Australia. You pay your compulsory insurance premium with your vehicle registration, which covers everyone's medical expenses on no-fault basis, in the event of crash. Then if you want to, you have the option of insuring your motor vehicle against damage with an insurance company. I think this reduces the risk of insurance companies colluding to screw you in the arse on a mandatory policy, and forces them to be more competitive on price.
Baron, question. Why do the insurance companies ask if your no claims "are being used on any other bike" what does it matter??? Surely your no claims reflect careful riding ( or that you just don't claim ), also, if your "other bike" is insured with a different insurance company, then it's them who'll be giving you discount not the one you're on the phone too, does that make sense ? Basically, we should be able to use our no claims on more than one bike with more than one insurer, there's no conflict of interest that I can see. Keep up the great videos 👍👊🏻
I like what you fellas are doing with 44 teeth and wholehearted agree that typical motorcycle publications are boring as. However, if it does blow up, don't lose sight of what you want it to be. I fear a lot of those boring publications started out as something fun and personal but grew into the stale garbage they've become.
I reduced my annual mileage from 5000 miles to 100 miles on my insurance policy as my bike was going into long term storage. My insurers deducted absolutely nothing for the price im paying, infact i ended up paying them £25 for the privilege of telling them. The 100 miles was there purely so i could ride the back to and from a garage if need be. So why did my price not fall lower than what im already paying? Surely only using the bike for upto 100 miles means im less of an insurance risk if i do 5000 miles?
Depression can be the realisation that not everything can or will go the way you want. Dependencies are the easiest way to deal but only stop you thinking abut the issues at hand and not face them head on
I remember the "i am suffering from depression" video and i really felt bad for you as i had been through a really bad few years of depression to do with loosing everything (the house i built with my own hands to start and raise a family in and the fact that the rest of my working life had all gone due to spinal injury). +BaronVonGrumble Welcome back!
+BaronVonGrumble VLOG HIM!
+BaronVonGrumble He vexes me. I am terribly vexed
+Tuscan Moto I hope your okay now, you seem like a cool person.
Hi mate, I would have to say you are probably the the most genuine vlogger always enjoyed watching your journey and look forward to seeing more in the future. Look after yourself mate.
You represent a very large group of men who have those problems. Thank you very much indeed.
And yes, i did spell Kriega wrong... FFS...
Yesyesyes Mr.Baron, you are onto something.
Stick with your 44 teeth approach, it has great potential and you are the guy to pull it off!

He can read minds dont you know

BVG, so enjoy your vlogs, your sense of humor and honesty with the great bikes makes for some great videos.
Tour de Baron were without a doubt the best videos you've uploaded - even now, still the best imho.
Would love to see a sequel!
Was good to see your videos on my subscription list today. Welcome back.

Thanks for the update. I'm looking forward to the video series you talked about.
Looking forward to the Barca trip, looks incredible. You and Fagan keep up the good work chap.
You are the classiest motovlogger ever, And one of my favorites. Much love from New York
Cannot wait to see another tour vid! Love the HP as well Baron
Happy to see BVG with the upload!!

Nice to have you back BVG
Great to see you back Baron👍🏼
Hey welcome back sir BVG, long time no see. Glad to see you on english rural roads :D
Always fun to watch your videos mate. Prends soin de toi le Baron grommelant :P
I've come full circle since our last chat. What a life lesson it was. Looking forward to you helping others with your knowledge. I'll try to do my bit down here ;)
+AdjrianNickelodeon good to hear amigo :)
Awesome, also loving the 44T stuff too, keep up the great work!
The Spain vids you did before on the gsxr are fucking superb!
baron i love the way your channels are i think its spot on to have this one for pissing about on bike on country lanes and traffic and track days then use the 44 teeth professionally (no fecal matter) with the motorvlog edge coz those are the bike reviews that make the most sense
+taylormadefan69 thanks mate - appreciate this so much as that was the exact plan :)
Such genuine and honest vlogs! Keep up the great content man, I hope to ride with you soon.
Hi, Baron. Stay awesome and thanks for sharing!
~Some random tool.
Man, I'd love it if you did another tour on your own like you did with the GSXR. That was my favorite series. This time on the HP4 sauce. Epic!
Thanks Baron for highlighting mental health issues, you are ace! Love you for that plus being hilarious!
Administration fees, duel bike insurance bullshit, modifications etc WTF? good to see you back doing what you do best Baron! Even if you are ignoring my messages, I will keep watching and liking dude.
Good to have you back baron
I'd love to see another tour, the Gsxr one was absolutely awesome.
Can't wait to see the 44teeth tour. The trailer looked awesome.
Possible of more Gsxr vlogs? Miss seeing that beast
+BaronVonGrumble lol, a tour on the R1M? Sent a tweet aswell :)
+BaronVonGrumble lol, a tour on the R1M? Sent a tweet aswell :)
glad to see you again.
loving the video
The Baron is back :-)
Looking forward to some great videos.
+Andrew Wallace think it was called "Truth - an Honest Video"
+BaronVonGrumble cheers went straight to the 44teeth Barcelona trailer instead :)
popped into a certain Farmborough motorcycle shop not long ago to speak to a man named Ben about a bike he sold in a particular *color not stated ;)* grey and 1 other color arrangement. and I have do say it is very nice... oh it's also yours... and I want it!
I really like your approach, deffo will be using the discounts thanks!
Hey Baron you should try The Wild Atlantic Way for a trip, its the longest continuous coastal road in the world .
come back to California!
I second this.
+SUB. DELINQUENT i will!
+Boris on Bikes noted ;)
+BaronVonGrumble are you going to do another road trip to Europe with jojo again anytime soonish (they were some of my favourite videos)
Been a long time subscriber of Baron and just subscribed to SubD a couple of days ago. I didn't know you were chums.
Thanks for the new video, can't wait for the new content!
the ending to this was class... Top notch dude :)
Man if you did a trip like that again. If would be awesome. Can we get a couple vlogs from classic Baron top view again if you do?
Can't wait for the vids mate.... I'll just wait here... *starts whistling*
+A Garden Shed Vlogs because you needed insurance and they had you by the balls... so to speak.
I loved watching your gsxr trip and would like to see another soon 👍 like how you do it on sports bikes and not the touring stuff 👍
Thanks for the great vid, great to see the von grumble showing up on my UA-cam. Look forward to seeing the new vids. It's an interesting point what you mentioned about the bike reviews from the main stream magazines, they can come across quite scripted and robotic, it's great to watch something different from yourselves which is more spontaneous, realistic, and a lot more fun ha ha.
woop woop....the Baron is back.....summers coming, Double bloody Decker...... :-)
I've pointed the insurance guys to this comments section... so play nice! ha - they are watching ;)
+BaronVonGrumble My sister wants a quote to ride Barons face up Shelsley Walsh Hill
Big brother is watching us.....
Big brother is watching us.....
+BaronVonGrumble Motorcycling is love, motorcycling is life.
Can't wait for the series! Tour de Baron 2.0!
Your hp4 at one point was in a2 motorcycles gravesend quite a while back
Aaah I've missed you. Welcome back ;)
That quickshifting made me go all tingly :)
there was documentary about this bike on the local (german) television - the design process...building, etc. when they put the BMW badge on the side, I flipped out! because I live in the stoneage, I believed that BMW only built horrible bikes with boxer engines and equally horrible purchase/repair prices.
who the hell would scrap a bike like this, which needs only 2k pounds sterling of investment to make her good again? unfathomable...
good on you for bringing her back to the fold, mate!
I just checked what she'd cost to insure here in lower-saxony, germany. a HP4 1000rr built in 2010, can be purchased here from roughy between €8000 to €10000.
insurance-wise - fully-comp (with the insured stumping up the first €500 of any large claim)
18 years of past insurance
seasonal plates from march to September
max. 10000kms per season
coverage of all bike damage (fairing, etc....helmet...leathers...)
covarage for damage incurred by all wildlife (including vandalism)
€15,000,000 coverage for damages
vehicle recovery in germany or other countries including medical coverage - delivery of bike to doorstep including a replacement hire vehicle/travelling costs home
the whole package costs only €695....or £538.40 in real money ;)
last I remember, the insurance in the UK was a tad 'steep'
you're right about your suspension there, mate! sounds like you're talking underwater ;)
thankyou for being so honest and open about how you felt after your split with your lass.
Glad you're back. Excellent business model for the incentives. How is your son?
Baron, question. Why do the insurance companies ask if your no claims "are being used on any other bike" what does it matter??? Surely your no claims reflect careful riding ( or that you just don't claim ), also, if your "other bike" is insured with a different insurance company, then it's them who'll be giving you discount not the one you're on the phone too, does that make sense ? Basically, we should be able to use our no claims on more than one bike with more than one insurer, there's no conflict of interest that I can see. Keep up the great videos 👍👊🏻
Good work Baron, keep it up!
Missed your VLOGS buddy ;)
I like what you fellas are doing with 44 teeth and wholehearted agree that typical motorcycle publications are boring as. However, if it does blow up, don't lose sight of what you want it to be. I fear a lot of those boring publications started out as something fun and personal but grew into the stale garbage they've become.
loving 44 bvg its like topgear fir bikes lol just catching up on all the videos now good stuff guys keep it up.
