Dr. Been, Thank you for giving Dr. Marik a space to speak and be seen. This amazing man has suffered a brutal and undeserved attack on his reputation and livelihood just for the crime of telling the truth and trying to help people. I appreciate what you are doing in keeping some of the unfairly deplatformed heroes in public view on your channel. Bravo sir!

Very good point Professor Marik drives home about eating _only at the table._ Not in the car. Not at the work desk. Not at the computer. Not on the train. Not on the coach. Not mindlessly shovelling into the mouth while pre-occupied with other things like the phone. How often you see people hurrying along the pavement stuffing their mouth with takeaways while apparently oblivious to the food, the eating activity and the sanctity of both.

As a homecare nurse working 12-hour shifts 5 days per week during the day with no actual break time, (& not wanting to eat when it is dark), I have no choice but to eat while working (either having to document while eating or having to jump up to suction the patient when needed). But, in theory, I completely agree with Dr. Marik, and have been doing IF with low carb diet for a few years now, partly to address eczema/psoriasis issues, and partly for the autophagy and longevity/immune system benefits. And I aim for good sleep, sunlight as much as possible, regular exercise/resistance training and other natural health strategies that I have learned about during the past few years. I didn’t need any of it for weight loss (in fact, I need to put on more muscle and increase bone density), but I wanted to set an example for patients’ family members who have diabetes/etc.

It always used to amaze me that patients would come in with a medication for some illness or symptoms and before very long they would end up with an additional to suppress the symptoms of the previous drug and before long they would be on a cocktail! None of which had ever had drug trials to see what the interactions were. I’ve watched this over a 32 year career as a dentist! The healthiest people were those that stayed away from GP’s and pharmaceutical drugs! Of course none were ever given education on food and nutrients from their GP and any info they were given was false because few GP’s have any knowledge on diet! 🤷‍♀️

Exactly! I remember my MIL having a slew of meds. I asked her “Vera, what are all these meds for!?” Several meds were to offset the symptoms of other meds. Like one to make her not retain water from another med and one to help with insomnia from a different meds. What a mess!
My story is long, but would love to know someone’s thoughts about it.
IMHO I believe that our body fluctuates depending on season, diet, lifestyle, stress etc.
I was hospitalized at 28 years old for meningitis. I told the attending physician I was going to miss my surgery appointment for getting my gallbladder removed. She asked if it was causing me a lot of discomfort. I told her not really, but my Dr said it needed removal when I had an ultrasound and assured me it’s no big deal- an easy outpatient surgery and I won’t miss it.
She looked furious. She said to come see her when I get out of the hospital. I did… and guess what? My gallbladder was perfectly fine. That experience really changed my mindset of seeing doctors like all knowing gods that should never be questioned.
When I was 31 years old my endocrinologist told me I was borderline insulin resistant and wrote me a prescription for Metformin.
Diabetes does run in my family big time, but other than my dads - dad, everyone else seemed to develop it when they were 50+ lbs overweight. Plus those who got it were big time carb addicts. Which I was not.
Im 5’1 and at that time weighed about 119. Was an active mom with my 3 boys and ate better than most people I know. I’ve always eaten low carb/ low sugar and love vegetables. So I was baffled & honestly rather concerned how this happened.
Due to my past experiences, I decided to decline the meds and told the doctor let’s retest in a few months. Agreeing if it continued I would consider the meds.
Low and behold when I went back I was fine. But what if I would have began the meds? Would my body have not functioned properly and become dependent on it? Would it have set me up for a life on diabetic meds? I don’t know…
I wonder that only because when I started taking thyroid meds at 27 it was shortly after the birth of my 3rd son. A time when our body can be a bit out of whack.
At the time I vividly remember the Dr telling me it was just “slightly” out of range, and put me on the lowest dose of Synthroid.
Hypothyroidism doesn’t run in our family and I’m the only one who has it.
I went from taking the lowest dose to now having to gradually take more and more over the last 20 years. It seems like every few years my dosage has to increase. I know that’s typical, but is it normal? Is this induced by the meds?
2 years ago at a Dr appointment (different Dr) my BP was a little elevated. He suggested I start a med. If course I immediately declined and bought a BP cuff. I’m fine. Although it does seem a little low occasionally, but never high.
I’m 48 now. Weigh 126 and still not on any drugs other than meds for hypothyroidism. I developed Hashimotos autoimmune disease about 10 years ago. Unfortunately, it is something out of my control.
Maybe my assumption about meds is ignorant, but it really does make me wonder.
I strongly believe people should do a wait and see before starting “some” meds. Especially if you’re just borderline.

Yes, my husband had been after his PCP to pay attention for many years about the effects of pills she wanted him to take. Each one caused another horrible symptom. One actually causes diabetes! Three years ago, we listened to Dr. Ken Berry, went keto, and got healthy and off the meds. The doctor did NOT like that he was 50 pounds lighter and off the meds. She wanted him to "stay on THE PROGRAM." It's disgusting.

@@jillzy1182 I agree with your non-medical, but totally logical, questioning of doctors and their LACK of knowledge in re: prescription substances. My understanding is that 1) There's a NATURAL cure for every human "dis-ease," and 2) human autoimmune disorders are entirely, um, "man-made."
I held a relatively high position as a medical professional, and I absolutely was NOT a doctor. But all that University studying I had to do, understand, and apply somehow to arrive at the correct diagnosis and treatment plan...all that LEARNING became an endless cycle of MORE research, reading; MORE learning. And this path led me to my first major medical culture shock: doctors aren't geniuses. When I experienced the very first doctor I recognized as not as intelligent as myself, I was blown away. "But they're reputed to be so smart!" was my gut reaction. Nope. They're perseverative, not hyper-intelligent. They just know how to stay with the program is all.
Crossing that Rubicon was the most defining moment of my life. It was then that I understood that I should hold NO ONE above myself. No one has authority enough for me to "take their word" for ANYTHING, especially things that could affect my, or my loved ones' future well-being. This manner of thinking has saved my family's lives in very, very recent years. It's tragic that so many believed propaganda they saw on the news, AND that a large percentage of allopathic health professionals got rich by agreeing to a false narrative (that, stepping back, is incredibly illogical once examined). If one desires fact-checking, is it logical to hand the task off to someone else that one hasn't met??
Even if all of what I said above is rejected, ponder this: Big Pharma is a business. Businesses have one goal...profits. If they sell a "cure," wouldn't they ultimately be harming themselves? Food for thought.

Metformin is still one of the best oral agents used to treat diabetes if diet and exercise did not bring sugars in control. There seems to be some “ concerted efforts “ to put down metformin maybe to push for insulin’s and other newer high cost diabetes drugs . People don’t gain weight with metformin like they do with taking insulin and it has numerous other metabolic benefits .

I believe her cancer returned not long after the pandemic started. It again went into remission. Recently it came back, but, being a nurse over 30 years, she knew something was really wrong this time. She just could not get on top of it this time. She said her white count was so low, they were waiting for it to come up so she could do her chemo. It just took her on the 4th of July. She trusted the system.😢

People used to endlessly eating frequently find it very hard to do intermittent fasting because they 'feel hungry'. Aside from Eating For Health, what really helps to end hunger/habit cravings is to take coconut oil (have some in coffee or straight off a spoon). It doesn't break ketosis AND it will allow you to move your attention into other things so you stop focusing on feeling deprived or hungry.
Lol. For anyone who reacts poorly to the idea of eating coconut oil off a spoon, i can tell you were never forced as a kid to take a giant spoonful of cod liver oil (way worse)....:_D

    • @barbarahickman652
      @barbarahickman652 2 роки тому

@@ks-hg5vo Oil pulling with coconut oil isn't consumed (swallowed). You spit out the oil you've been swishing around you teeth/gums/mouth (into something like a paper bag or whatever so you don't clog drains).
But even if you consume coconut oil during a fast it doesn't transition you from fat burning back to sugar burning. Most of the fats in coconut oil will be turned directly by the liver into ketones.
Overnight your body does the same thing as it runs out of sugar: your liver creates ketones to sustain and support sleep and repair and detox. It's why skipping breakfast for many is found easy to do and very effective for intermittent fasting. You're already in that state/zone.

I've been low carb ketovore and fasting for over 10 years. Yes at first fasting is hard. But it gets easier as you quit the high processed carbs, which causes cravings. The more protein and good fats you eat, the less hungry you are. As he said, you need to overcome the high insulin levels. I found butter in coffee helped in the beginning. Or yes try coconut butter. It's easier to take than the oil.

Sadly Australia seems to be following the US trend, a few years behind but not many. The US sugar consumption is astounding!! In my circle of friends we automatically half or even 1/3 sugar in US sourced recipes. Its usually far too sweet for our palettes. Sadly our largest supermarket chain is encouraging the sugar trend with a glossy free magazine each month and over the last 2 years the addition of honey, maple syrup, sugars into recipes is accelerating in their magazine. Aussies have traditionally not used sweetened sauces on meat products but the recipes are changing, I checked older magazines and it isnt there except on special holiday recipes, now its in their weekly menu planning section. Our sweetened drink consumption has increased a lot in recent years. Really it comes down to individuals bucking the trends and cooking more at home from genuine fresh foods, time pressures have led to negative diet changes. Keep putting the message out there please. Sad all round

Thank you so much for speaking truth Dr Marik and Dr Been! Just met with my hubby’s cardiologist PA and lipid clinic. They pushed meds, including injectable due to his reaction to statins, and low-fat, low-salt, low meat plant based diet. He is underweight as a Type 1 diabetic (genetic not autoimmune- MODY10) and low BP and all WNL lipids and a TG/HDL below 2- but not low enough for them. I went keto just before CV hit (12/19) and lost 45 lbs. He decreased carbs but not keto. He had STEMI 10/20 with stenting(No 💉 and no CV until 11/21 and we used all FLCCC protocols and he did great!). Had another event 8/22. They acted like it was his lifestyle choices. I pushed back. Turns out he had a stent failure with intimal hyperplasia (they did not tell this to us until I asked serious questions and as a healthcare professional I knew what to ask)- not much he could do to prevent that stenting complication. Now pushing for CGM so we can take him lower safely as an insulin dependent diabetic. Should have that soon. Can’t believe what they are “educating” us to do and how opposite it is in BG readings if he eats what they say to eat!! Thank you for speaking out!! 👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️

I think fasting does not get the attention it should these days. It recently occurred to me that fasting is mentioned quite a bit in the Bible, but not mentioned so much at all today. Doctors only mention fasting for labs, surgery, procedures, etc. I've recently learned of so many health benefits from fasting, so why aren't doctors recommending this to people? People here take waaaaaaay too many medications instead of living healthier.

I agree that processed food is toxic. However ... Why do some of the healthiest countries eat rice? bananas? It depends on what local foods naturally grow, how much sun you (and the foods) get, and food combination and time of day that you eat, among other things. Dr. Merik is so right, eat real food. . Peace and blessings.

Thank you dr. Been and Dr. Merick for his podcast. I may have missed it a year ago. I'm not sure, but lestening to it now is SO good: IT is very clear; it's concise; and it is incisive.
I have a friend who's diabetic and I tried to turn her toward all the keto and the carnivore podcasts but I personally think this podcast is superior and would result in her needing to make less changes in her diet. Also it's not really that important but I remember hearing Dr merick talk in the past and I like him very much. I'm trying to recall if he is from South Africa or Australia??🤔 He does have a slight accent but I'm just not sure. I'm just curious.
I will also say as a PostScript that I believe he mentioned in passing one might have difficulty with one's own doctor in getting guidance on this path and it's worse than that! MY doctors hate me and they want to force me to go on statins and they say I am "tying their hands" and I feel they're trying to shorten my life because my HDL and triglycerides have been excellent for many years and my LDL is high because in my family we live to be over a hundred and those people who live that long almost always have high LDL, of the good type, as there are four types of LDL. I actually do NOT think my doctor-- including my cardiologist-- are aware of this fact which is not that difficult to find out. JUST GOOGLE IT. I would say ever since covid, the common Man has learned to Google medical matters& consequently there has been a WAR between doctors and patients and this does not bode well.

Everyone ( almost ) here in Sweden uses Canola oil ( raps oil ), as a cheap, healthy ( not ) alternative to butter, sunflower and olive oil etc. But the stuff made here is not from GM rape seed at least. But a seed oil is a seed oil is a seed oil, and too high in Omega 6. I wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole! Swedes are known as pretty healthy, but I see the young generations getting more and more obese just like anywhere else, and many of the elderly I observe look a bit crotchety, without much life force energy...For me, it's only organic butter, olive oil, and coconut oil. Next on the list will beef tallow, and duck fat.

@@tigerspiritjourney It seems pretty clear to me that the human body is not designed/evolved to use polyunsaturated fats as fuel. I've seen results of studies that showed that mitochondria create only about half as much ATP per second as saturated and monounsaturated fats when they are burning PUFAs for fuel, lowering metabolism. That would suggest to me that PUFAs are problematic as fuels, and are only needed in the quantities needed for structural purposes. The Randle Cycle prevents the mitochondria from utilizing high amounts both glucose and fat at the same time, and I'm sure that is worse when the fats are PUFAs, like in french fries and cakes and donuts and such.

Although there was a scandal a number of years ago, where European farmers were furious to find out that some rapeseed bought from N. America was, in fact contaminated with the GMO rapeseed variety. I and my Swedish husband actually called the companies here in Sweden who produce the oil for the supermarkets, and they assured us that the rapeseed grown in Sweden is Non-GMO. The rapeseed used in North America to make Canola Oil is GMO for the purpose of being able to withstand insane levels of Glyphosate in the growing process...That's not allowed in Sweden, and if that kind of poison were allowed on the shelves in our supermarkets here in Sweden, it would have to be labeled a GMO product. None of our 'rapsoil' is labeled GMO...

Information the establishment doesn't want you to know and makes difficult for the average person to find .
I've used various diets throughout the years , not necessarily for weight loss, but for all around health. I found a totally raw diet produced the most amazing results. Consisting of Vegetables, fruits ,nuts and seeds . Every couple of weeks I would splurge with a pizza or simply fresh deli bread , cheese (various flavors) olive oil and loads of choppped garlic. I felt as healthy as when I was 18 yrs.old . I found it necessary to juice along with this diet because I couldn't eat enough...my regular salad bowl was a huge two gallon bowl . Admittedly, it was expensive using all organic produce and it was time consuming once I learnd various raw recipes . I bought a mastigating juicer so carrots and othe hard vegetables were wrung dry and very little went to waste or went to compost. As with all else in life, the more effort you apply the better results you achieve.
