I agree with letting the leaves wilt a bit before watering. That was the game changing tip that my stepmom gave me and it stopped me from killing all my plants. Her way of saying it was, "You just let it tell you when it's thirsty." I've never killed a plant since.

I went our of the city for 2 weeks and asked a friend to water my plants. He went like every 5 days and water it a bit, everything OK. I came back at night, looked at it and it was fine. I looked at it next morning and bitch was on her deathbed. I swear, all wilted and almost brown!! It gave me such a scare. I was so stunned I did everything, changed the soil, feed it and water it a bit. In 2 days it was back in health. It was just like it was punishing me for leaving 🥲

Notes: - prefer bright indirect light - the more light, the more water it requires - if plant gets too much light leaves may fade - too little light may lead to leafy plants - trimming promotes bushier growth; prune older leaves twice a year - when wilted, watering it should perk it up - let soul dry out completely between waterings - plant is not heavy feeder but needs SOME sustenance:m; extremely dilute fertilizer and mix with water to feed - if you feed too much too quickly, leaves will get crunchy on tips - if you fertilize too much, clip off crunchy leaves - propagate super easily; watch end of video for propagation tips

I’m going to subscribe to you. I just got into house plants. My husband and I are vegetable and herb (spices) growers. I just bought a pink fairy plant off eBay and received her last night. She’s bushy already and gorgeous. I’m also happy to hear she’s non toxic to my cats. My husband brought home a lily flower for our anniversary years ago and it nearly killed our cat. I’m very excited in learning about house plants
Thank you so much for this very informative video. I just inherited a very sweet but leggy old polka dot plant from my dear sister-in-law who is moving far away. I will cherish this plant as a memory of time with her. But I really want to know how best to care for it and keep it driving. Your video was very informative and I thank you very much. Many blessings to you

Thank you!! My boyfriend bought me a polka dot plant earlier in the year and it grew super fast, it’s outside at the moment. I heard they can die after flowering, which mine has, but it’s still alive, but I’m hoping to propagate it after doing some trimming! Thanks again!
How perfect 💖 my room has less light than my living room that gets a lot of light. I was looking for a plant for it and my mom bought me a cute super pink polka dot plant and it'll be perfect.
These grow wild in my garden 😄 the ones in shade are purple (when they get about 30cm they make purple, triangle-petaled, compact flowers) and the ones in bright sun are a light pink. I bought a red one today and I'm going to introduce it to the ecosystem.
This video is perfect! Thank you so much! Mine got all leggy and leaves are getting more green then pink and I didn’t know what to do. I knew you’d have something for me. Thanks!
So helpful! I haven’t searched through your videos yet. I’m adhd trying to multitask lol. If you could elaborate and maybe even show how you trim them to make them bushier maybe bc I have one and she’s super leggy, I didn’t realize that could be remedied to make it more bushy. I actually did zero research on this plant and bought it because it was absolutely gorgeous when I passed by and saw it. Now that it’s tall enough to need a 3 foot trellis and I have it indoors that’s a little hard to do and either way I would like it to look a lot busier so I could really use the help and because of my ADHD I hate reading, and I’m a much better visual learner.

I enjoyed this lesson very much, and I am now going to cut my mother plant back (as per your instructions) with the hope that I will get some new baby plants. Keeping my fingers crossed!
I needed help so thank you. My polka dot is so leggy that in the last week I have 4 to 6 leaves left on the tops of 7 stems, didn't know what was happening. I plan to cut them back and begin again, hopefully in the next 2 weeks I'll have roots and restart this journey again. Going for the busy look.
Spot on. It's like the little polka plant needs a tiny little fainting couch. Such drama. It's been fun getting to know her. Any tips for repotting? Thanks.
This is my favorite plant because I thought it was so hilarious how it wilts but springs back up instantly with water. mine grew rapidly and became long and many-armed. But then my roommates kittenn ate most of her arms. She only has left. A year later and she really hasn't improved. I just repotted her to a smaller pot this weekend. I hope she grows. :(
Heres a tip for u. I have a fish tank I take the cuting of the plants put them.in my fish filter and they grow roots like crazy. They get good fish water and even help my tank as they grow big long roots. And I like ur viedo thank u for it. I injoy theses little plants alot.
I brought home some polka dot plants pink red and white. They are cute. So true the wilt to tell you they want water, and perk right back up. My is in my room away from a north window. But I supplement with random times of turning my lamp on which has a full spectrum bulb in it. The plants seem happy.
Very helpful, informative, and concise you told me everything that I was doing wrong with my polkadot plants, I’m going to trim them back now and hopefully save them I just got a brand new one too so hopefully I won’t fail that one either thank you
Thanks for this video! Re propagating, can I stick the clippings back into the same pot to make the base bushier, or should I replant them into a whole new pot. Thank you!
My little guy was doing great until he got left out in the sun too long before I realized he needed water. He was definitely a dramatic little thing and wilted even if he had plenty of water lol. He was flowering and everythingI soaked him and nothing was left but dead dried branches and was gonna throw it away but thankfully I noticed there was one little live branch left so I uprooted it and trimmed the roots away all except for a little ball of roots directly under the little branch and so I repotted it and am anxiously waiting for him to pull through lol

Hi! Thank you very much for your informative video. I am sad about my Hippo Rose/ Polka Dot Plant. It used to be bushy, full, with beautiful pink and green leaves when I fist bought it. Then I noticed that its leaves easily got burnt even from indirect, bright light. Then slowly it started to lose a few then more of its beautiful pink leaves. Then now, its stems are mostly bare and there's just a few leaves on one of its stems. How do you know if a Polka Dot plant is dying or if it still can be saved, what should you do? Thank you very much. -Tess

Great video, thanks! How can you tell if crispy leaves are due to too much fertilizer vs too much sun? (The tips/half of some of the leaves on my plant are blackened and dry)
Thanks Hari! Mine is need of pruning and wanted to know whether the cutting would root, so this was super helpful! Could you also do a similar video about the fettonia?? Thanks x

Would you mind sharing any advice on soil amendments? I often times mix concoctions( worm castings, charcoal, succulent mix etc). Thank you so much and I loooove your channel!!
Thanks so much for the tips. I have a question that maybe you might be able to answer. What if you started pinching the plant after it was already leggy at the bottom and now its top heavy and bushy at the top isnt there some way to get the nodes below to sprout shoots?

I have been having trouble with mine and I kept finding sites that said they need a lot of light and frequent water but my plant keeps dying so this was EXTREMELY helpful! Thank you! ❤
Fingers crossed it works out! They are such fun plants!
Thank you for this video because I just bought my friend a Polka Dot Plant to cheer her up.
Ugh THANK YOU! My poor baby’s leaves were drying out and I had no idea WHYYYY?! I’m positive it’s the food I gave it! Thanks for the advice!
I recently purchased my polka dot plant and I’m so excited. Great video!
Omgosh thankyou!! I know now why my leaves are crispy and its about 24” tall so i gotta trim!!🎉 thank you i just subscribed!!
Great video thank you I bought my first polkadot plant today.
Many blessings to you
Just bought one today. Great tips!!!!
Yay! Let me know how it does for you (:
Thank you Harli :)....I have found your video.s totally inspiring...Even life changing for some of us...Now...All my house plants(quite a few) have had a new lease of life and i LOVE them even more....Best wishes
Yay! That makes me so happy. Thank you for leaving this comment.
I agree with you the first welt totally freaked me out and then I watered it and it bounced back so fast. It stuck in my mind so now I just let it do its thing.
Thanks, I have been struggling with my polka dot plant. Love your videos.
Thank you!! My boyfriend bought me a polka dot plant earlier in the year and it grew super fast, it’s outside at the moment. I heard they can die after flowering, which mine has, but it’s still alive, but I’m hoping to propagate it after doing some trimming! Thanks again!
Brilliant! This is exactly what I was looking for... Covered all my questions. Thanks!
The way you propagate these is exactly how I do it with my thai basil lol just save those from ordering Pho and roots appear after 2 weeks
How perfect 💖 my room has less light than my living room that gets a lot of light. I was looking for a plant for it and my mom bought me a cute super pink polka dot plant and it'll be perfect.
Thank you very much. I just got this plant and now i know how to take care of it. Also you are very beautiful.
Very informative video, thank you,for your help. Just got one of these plants from my mom, and now it is blooming pretty purple flowers. Thanks again.
These grow wild in my garden 😄 the ones in shade are purple (when they get about 30cm they make purple, triangle-petaled, compact flowers) and the ones in bright sun are a light pink. I bought a red one today and I'm going to introduce it to the ecosystem.
That’s cool but some species might be invasive in your area so check on that before introducing new plants
Excellent video! My leaves are browning at the tips and falling off. I wonder if the potting soil I chose is too high in fertilizer 😢
This video is perfect! Thank you so much! Mine got all leggy and leaves are getting more green then pink and I didn’t know what to do. I knew you’d have something for me. Thanks!
So glad I saw this video. Mine are one stem leggy because I didn't realise trimming it would make it produce branches. Thank you ❤
I love you! There are so many times your videos are my go to ones lol. Thank you for existing! 😍❤😻🌱🍀🌿
Wow! thank you so much. I am incredibly honored by that.
Great video, easily earned my subscription by watching this video 😄
I just purchased one and thanks for your tips and tricks.
Happen to see this very informative video, Can recommend what type soil for this? Thanks in advance.
Hi Harli, I'm new to your site, and was researching propagation of Pink Polka Dot plants. I learned a few things from watching your videos, and have decided to subscribe to your site. I enjoyed this lesson very much, and I am now going to cut my mother plant back (as per your instructions) with the hope that I will get some new baby plants. Keeping my fingers crossed!
Thank you very much for the support! Good luck with your plant 😊
Polka Dot plants are so pretty! Thanks for the propagation tips!
You're welcome! Thanks for watching (:
Very helpful vid just bought a polka dot today from Home D ☺️
Glad, I found this video. I just added a teeny pink polka dot plant to my house.
Thanks for the great advice! Love my polka dot plants & can't wait to propagate my cuttinfs!
Great video. Super clear and concise. Subscribed 😊
Ty this is my first plant in a long time and now I feel better informed to care for my "Emily" polka dot plant😊
never knew i could propagate them! i’ll try it now
Spot on. It's like the little polka plant needs a tiny little fainting couch. Such drama. It's been fun getting to know her. Any tips for repotting? Thanks.
Thank you!! This video helped out a lot. I’ve been noticing my plant has crispy leaf tips, who knew it would be from over fertilizing!
Great, exactly what I wanted to hear. To the point care! Thank you
Heres a tip for u.
Thank you!
I just got a pinkish-red colored one. They're very interesting looking.
Did it pull through?
Gooodd lucckk!!
i need an update on this it’s been 7 months 😫
Next time you should put that last little stem into some water. It's a great last resort.
Sorry guys! It didn’t pull through but I have a new one ordered and it should be arriving soon
my plant of the year 2018 favorite.....Hobby Greenhouse here.....as long as these guys don't get hit with direct hot sun there happy...left unattended and fed the grew into 2.5 ft. shrubs....
mid summer cuttings root fast when it is warm, with hormone....Zone 6 here....
I have like this plant in green foshia mix . It was so tiny for several months then so i started to hate it .
one day i decided to give 20/20/20 as i do for my all plants and here comes the magic
I swear the next day the growth was insane like 10 cm biger and it has lilac flowers
I couldnt believe something like this can happen over night.
Hi Harli, Thank you so much for the video. I am new to house plants and finding your channel very helpful especially since my polka dot plant started wilting today (hopefully she springs back up). You mentioned posting a video on how and when to trim it. My plant is starting to get leggy and would love to see how it is done properly.
Keep. Up good work. Love. Plant🌹
This was so helpful! I've had a polka dot for about a month and it's grown SO much! It's so leggy tho, and leaves are turing yellow!! Now I know how to fix it lol! Thank you!!!
The light probably isn’t close enough
Harli to cool....my local big box store sells many of the little guys you talk about...gonna run out and get a couple varieties right now!...love your hair...
Thank you so much! Yay! They are such fun plants (:
Thanks so much! It was a great informative video and I'm off to trim and hopefully propagate some new little cute pink polka dot plants.
Can you do a recent video about them? I am sure that after this whole time you should now have even more experience with them. Just bought a cute mini one and want to make sure that I take care of her properly :)
These are so pretty! I will definitely have to find one. Thanks for the awesome video!!
Keira L. Yay! They really are such fun gorgeous plant additions 😊
-Tess
Thanks for propogation idea and ur nail polish bottle idea I m from India .just I m thinking anot pinching my plant but I was scred to pinch but now I can do it ..tq so much
Yes indeed, it was very helpful. Thanks
I've been looking for this info eversince I bought my hypoestes plants. Thanks for sharing.
Great video, thanks! How can you tell if crispy leaves are due to too much fertilizer vs too much sun? (The tips/half of some of the leaves on my plant are blackened and dry)
I love you all your plant friend stay safe God bless you
Thanks Hari! Mine is need of pruning and wanted to know whether the cutting would root, so this was super helpful! Could you also do a similar video about the fettonia?? Thanks x
Yes definitely! Thanks for watching (:
Such brief information that I was looking for. Thx sooooooo much ♥️
I just bought 2 a week ago and they're already growing roots out of the bottom! I'd like to increase pot size from 3" to a 4" but am not sure what soil to use. Would you mind sharing any advice on soil amendments? I often times mix concoctions( worm castings, charcoal, succulent mix etc). Thank you so much and I loooove your channel!!
I've read that if a plant is doing well, don't repot, even if rootbound. When you do repot, don't overdo it. I think it was a 50/50 root soil ratio.
Thank you for answering all of my questions about my polka dot plant 😁
Thanks so much for the tips. I have a question that maybe you might be able to answer. What if you started pinching the plant after it was already leggy at the bottom and now its top heavy and bushy at the top isnt there some way to get the nodes below to sprout shoots?
