I disagree with the choice of the corys. Better would have been pygmy corys, and even then 3 is pushing it in a 5.5 with a betta, and I wouldn't keep less than that. Those pandas get to be around 2 inches, and they eat a lot and are very active. Those frogs are probably not the best choice either, because if the betta is hungry or just has a bad temper, he will attack them.
Honestly, I'd just do snails in a 5.5 betta tank, especially one set up for young kids. A couple of nerites (as long as you can stand the eggs the females lay, or get a bunch and find the males) or even "pest" snails like ramshorn or bladder snails. Shrimp are hit or miss, depending on your betta's personality.
Otherwise, those are simple and effective betta tanks IMO. I would have used more plants myself, but established substrate plus bottled bacteria should be plenty biofilter. Bettas don't really like it bright, but once that hornwart grows some, that shouldn't be a problem.
Hope it goes well for y'all.

I was interested to read your comment as I’ve been thinking of Pandas in my new 33litre but will now probably go with Pepper Corys. Definitely no Beta but some Golden mountain minnows ✌️
