This went from funny to real as fuck to having a sad realization in 3 mins. This was great.
You got it exactly. I laughed and then I reflected and the last line brought a tear.

I like how "HE'LL BE FINE; HIS PRIVILEGE WILL PROTECT HIM!" was such a killer last line that they started playing the music then realized: oh wait there's more
"Don't go check on the white guy he'll be fine his privileged will protect him" *Snap snap snap snap* America in 15 words.

I thought the whole poem was gonna be a funny lighthearted one but i was even more satisfied when it grew a deeper meaning

One of the best poems Ive heard in a while. I love the combination of humour and seriousness, i was not expecting the turn.

I couldn't help but clap, be awed, and just have complete and utter respect for these guys.
Then I noticed the Attack on Titan/Shingeki no Kyojin necklace and the Scott Pilgrim shirt. My respect for them skyrocketed even more than it already had.

I use Omar Holmon's poetry slams in my class frequently (poetry slam class I wrote and teach in high school)...in a district where 80% of my students are either black or Latino, it is awesome to have a black poet that lets them know it is ok to NOT be all of the stereotypes...thank you for being confident enough to be yourself...you guys are awesome role models!!!!
I want to write a horror movie, and have all of the characters have really generic names, like John, Bill, Jim, what have you. And have one character with a very stereotypical "ghetto" name. Release none of the casting information until the movie is released, and then, surprise motherfucker, John, Bill, Jim, et cetera are all black actors, and they all survive until the end. And then have [insert stereotypical "ghetto" name here] be a white guy from Alabama. AND THE WHITE GUY IS THE FIRST TO DIE.

Truth is, you don'd believe a black guy doing stupid things to be killed in a horror movie. You need a fool blonde girl and a good looking white boy with no brain to do that. A black guy just runaway. Just look for Duane Martin anecdote from "Scream 2" in the "Still screaming" documentary.

Okay, but when they said 'Fade to Black', my heart stuttered in my chest. GODDAMNNNN THAT WAS SOOOO GOOD!!
I LOVE this slam poem! It is one big burn after another, a discussion on real life injustices and discrimination and stereotypes, AND they use humor throughout, which I find helps to balance it overall. I may be white as they come, but that "mayonnaise and failed dreams" parts makes me just ROFL! This is a truly deep poem with a real message, but I really love the humor added in. Beautifully crafted by some talented young men.
I love coming back to this poem every once in a while.
