He's an alien, so he thinks it does the same or more amount of damage to delete a person.
Guy probably thought "Edgar" was bluffing. You have to be pretty DGAF about the consequences psychotic to blow away a stranger in broad daylight like that.
It was a Ruger Super Redhawk in 44. magnum, a massive and powerful handgun. He figured that the guy was bluffing with his shotgun. It was his fatal mistake to assume that the guy wasn't a sociopath who would shoot someone in broad daylight in public with a pump shotgun. But sadly, he didn't know he was dealing with an alien bug in an Edgar suit.

Men in Black (1997) could be considered a stand alone film and one of the best in my opinion, the sequels while good do not really fit, it was a global standout success in 1997 and everything about it is funny, cool and great and handled in a realistic way with no human looking aliens at all, the animated series can also be included as it predates the second one.
and if only 5%-10% of the UFO stories are true, then many, many different species from different galaxies are visiting us and the men in black are apparently real
