It was the 'igniter' to their eventual championship season. A week following this game came the fame 4-team trade in which Nomar Garciaparra was dealt to the Cubs while Doug Mientkiewicz & Orlando Cabrera joined the Red Sox & ultimately upgraded their defensive play on the field. They wouldn't catch the Yankees for the division, but they didn't need to.....they finally caught the Yankees & surpassed them in the ALCS. And the rest is history.
I would say that this game changed the entire franchise. It was absolutely incredible and someone that watched it live and list through those moments, the exhilaration and thrill of victory after everything was truly incredible leading to coming back from being down three games to nothing and then sweeping the World Series.
I was at the bowling alley of all places when the fight happened. It was on the TV and we were watching in between balls (one of those, "I remember where I was" moments). Got home in time to see the last 3 innings. Thanks for posting.
“The Turnaround Game” - I was 12 years old sitting right next to the Yankees bullpen for this. What people don’t remember is the fights that coincided between Sox and Yankees fans in the stands during the brawl. Talked to Rivera sometime in the middle of the game as he stood on the bullpen wall, couldn’t have been nicer especially in enemy territory to a rival’s fan (12 years old or not). Sad thing is barely anyone besides die-hard Sox fans remember Mueller walking it off, just the brawl lives on in people’s memory. What a time to be a Sox fan, and fan of baseball in general.
I remember the fights continuing throughout the game. It was crazy. Right after the brawl a Red Sox fan threw a full beer in a Yankees fan's face a few rows in front of him. Huge fight (RF section).
Easily the greatest sporting event I've ever been to in person. The game had absolutely everything. After the bench-clearing brawl, there were fights in the crowd every five minutes in different sections of Fenway. One section would settle down, and then a fight would break out in another section. I've never seen anything like it.
Can I just give a shout-out to Bruce Froemming for dealing with this mayhem super professionally as an umpire? We live in a world filled with Angel Hernandez’s- good job for Froemming knowing when to step back and observe
It’s not biased at all. He had a balanced take saying maybe it will help Arod and spark the Red Sox…people need to stop thinking announcers have it out for their team…they don’t haha
Of course, Sturtz goes after the biggest toughest guy on the Red Sox, Gabe Kapler. His ego as big as he is got the best of him, I don't think he realized how tough Kapler was; or that an angry David Ortiz and Pissed off Trot Nixon would jump him as well.
@@TheLocalLt so I can’t mildly critique, even in jest, anyone who has ever died? Face it, for as impressive as Tim’s resume was and how respected [well earned] he is as a baseball man, he’s always been a bit of a buffoon.

Today is the 20-year anniversary of this game!
You’re a legend for uploading this whole game thank you on behalf of everyone from Red Sox Nation!
The iconic game that changed the season ⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️
Boston loses this game, they don't make the playoffs, the curse lives on, and the world is a better place.

Rivera was one of the classiest men ever to play the game.
One of the best parts of these uploads is how the commercials are intact. It’s like a time capsule!
43:25 Varitek and A-Rod going at it
Been waiting for this one for a long time…
Tanyon Sturtze left with a "bruised baby finger" LOL
“We don’t hit .260 hitters”
“Blank you! Blank you!”
When the fight begins, the umpire just walks away from it!!
I love it!!!!
Brawl starts at 43:12
You the real hero!!!! Thank you!!!!
@weprintplastic happy anniversary haha!

I was at this game as a 10 year old with my dad, will never forget it. Still have the ticket stub
20 years ago today
Sweet! Doesn’t get better than this.
announcers say "he's always been a level headed guy, calm". Dude, the guy was on steroids when he played for texas. He's always been a loose cannnon
Back when Red Sox and Yankees was actually a rivalry
Can I just give a shout-out to Bruce Froemming for dealing with this mayhem super professionally as an umpire? We live in a world filled with Angel Hernandez’s- good job for Froemming knowing when to step back and observe
Bruce's nickname was "The General". Teams knew although he wasn't able to move fast, you would have a well run game when he was on the field.
Wow, so this happened in late July. All this time, I dont know why I remembered this scuffle happening like sometime in April 2004
As a Red Sox fan, just hated the Yankees and still do. 2003 and 2004, rivalry was at its best. Rivalry is not as big as it use to be.
I found myself watching a lot of the commercials lol..
This was the beginning of the Red Sox 2000s and 2010s Dynasty
Funny hearing the biased commentary. Arod didn’t win any points and Varitek became a legend.
Biased
It’s not biased at all. He had a balanced take saying maybe it will help Arod and spark the Red Sox…people need to stop thinking announcers have it out for their team…they don’t haha
This is coming from a diehard Red Sox fan btw
Come on let's be serious. Tim McCarver was completely biased. May he rest in peace. But he was biased
This game was almost rained out if I remember correctly.
Some of these ads are so funny, what a time capsule

43:25 "Varitek and A-Rod going at it." And that's how the 2004 Yankees was absolutely terrible.
We were the best team in baseball that year (even if we didn’t make the World Series), so I’m not sure what you’re talking about
@@mariosnum1fanwell obviously this brawl was hilarious but again 2004 Yankees were trash after 2003.

Hockey Night at Fenway
Torre burned out that pen due to the overall horrific starting pitching on this team.
@TJ89741 That is correct
It’s Bronson Arroyo, Tim McCarver just calls him Brandon repeatedly by accident
remember this game like it was yesterday
He does look like a Brandon though
McCarver got almost everything wrong. Completely smooth brained.
@@EnjoySackLunch let the man rest in peace. He did World Series games for three different networks, one of the best to ever do it in any sport.

The redsox front lffice didnt overule the decision to play. The redsox players did..
These 2 bozos talking politics in the 2nd inning
Garciaparra roping a double on an 0-2 pitch in the bottom of the 9th

Hey, at least he helped Bronson keep his head on straight.
Franchise altering game
If Boston loses this game (which they should have). The curse would Still be alive and well
Tim Mccarver was so biased on commentary this game
