I remember watching this game while on vacation, baseball was still a HUGE deal back then, especially the Red Sox and Yankees. Ortiz would foreshadow his ALCS heroics with the walk off in this game. RIP Tony Gwynn
Great upload, thank so much! I didn’t get to watch this game on the west coast because I was working. I listened on a portable stereo with headphones and my jaw dropped when Jon Miller(?) shouted that VG hit that slam off of Timlin in the 7th. Someone asked if I was OK but I said nothing, kept on searching for bank records and pretending as if I didn’t hear. After work, I stopped at Chili’s on my way to the airport (bound for Vegas) just in time to catch Papi’s walkoff HR! Yet that would somehow pale in comparison to what would happen next
I remember seeing this game in 2004 - I've always been a Sox fan, and Chris Berman's call 'Oh, he's not disgusted with this!!!" 😆😆 Very good defence as well as a big bat.
@@erics2739 not denying that. But they could have won this game. They probably SHOULD have won this game. Probably would have still lost the series but my point still stands.
So great how Hall-of-FamerTony Gywnn says in the Bottom of the 10th Sox have to bunt to get Damon into scoring position; then the Angels have to walk Ramirez and take a shot at Ortiz. Then what actually happens is the bunt fails to advance the runner, Manny goes down looking, and Ortiz launches the Very First Pitch he sees to end the Series. Baseball is Magic.
This is a moment in sports I will never forget. The time stamp should be a few seconds earlier ~ as soon as Timlin walked Erstad it was basically tied.
Doesn’t matter. They won 98 games during the regular season. And anyway, they wound up winning eight straight games in the playoffs and World Series against two very good teams that won over 100 games each. It’s pretty clear that they were the best team that year.
This series is made greater by having Tony Gwynn on the broadcast. He was a treasure.
Few were better than Tony G. It's a shame they let Berman in the booth though.
that rare Chris berman play by play. wasn't the biggest fan of him but appreciated when he'd actually call games.
he is very associated with the home run derby, but as far as I know he called one lds in 2004 and 5.

Manny and Ortiz finished 3-4 in the mvp
Voting that year. They knocked out the 1-2 in vlad and Sheffield

1:09:40 Troy Glaus most underrated player of that time
Ur right and the sox almost signed him....

I'm still not sure why he was released by the Angels in favour of Dallas McPherson - who wasn't as good? Was McPherson better defensively?
"david ortiz with 3 hits- THIS COULD BE 4!"
BACK IT GOES
IT'S OVER!
THE RED SOX WIN!!
Should have left K-Rod in. Angels had so many opportunities to win this game.
Sox were wayyy better but ur right

The “in the air tonight” segments were the best

2021 back to back playoff walkoff wins for the first time since big papi in 04!
2004 fear of the Yankees
2021 send the Yankees home without much drama
once the spell is broken...
As a long time Yankee fan, what commenced was a veritable nitemare. I won' t go anywhere near that 7th game debacle. Bury it baby.
2:15:06 Vladdys salami. For a moment I thought that the 2004 Angels would turn into the 2002 Angels and win this ALDS
Yes serie red sox 2004 yeeeeeeeeeeees
Que es AOS? 1:51
Did anyone else see Troy Glaus leaving his teammate hanging after he hit the home run lol fucked up
Who knew what was waiting for the Red Sox in the next series 😂😮??
Great upload. Great game, too, but the announcers were unbearable. Once Vlad hit that home run, it became a Mike Scioscia lovefest.
Sometimes those announcers can be so biased!
Raj do you have any 2004 Red Sox regular season games?
Negative

Rotten thieves. Stole my rings.
Boston didn't even belong in the playoffs that year
Really? If they didn’t belong, they obviously wouldn’t have been there. 🤦♂️ 🤷♂️
