@@gretchenmenn stumbled into your band online through a friend. You guys are the best cover band I've heard. Please continue doing what you do. Hope to get to see you live! Thank you for the music!
What an amazing series. This has been so much more than a guitar lesson with the tips on gear, and even performance timing. Thank you so much for the insight.
You explain things differently than anyone else I've encountered. You make me think of how I might approach a song, not just follow notes and chords. This is my favorite song and you are my favorite cover band. Thank you.
So cool to see the depth that goes into getting the authentic feel of Zeplin. Clearly a great deal of work has gone into this! Btw Gretchen you are absolutely beautiful and your guitar work is truly fine!
Thank you so much for your videos. I think beside your honesty and openness to share your pedalboard, and tone, sharing your stage ques blew me away! Please make more vids!
What a joy it is to listen to you, playing and speaking. And all of you are such a wonderfully and lovely unpretentious, and such a thrilling band to see. One day, if I'm lucky, I might get to see you live
I play this in my band, and I hate bringing an extra guitar in open tuning (I’m already bringing a LP and a Strat in Standard. You have convinced me that Standard can sound fine for live performance-thank you, and I love your discussion throughout all three videos. God bless! -Alan
as Hendrix's LP stated "are you experienced"? A= "yes you are", and that's why technique insights from jobbing artists are invaluable to us open mic goers, way on down that ladder of talent. cheers.
I thank you so much for the details you have gone into making these three pieces on When The Levee Breaks. Old School Rock & Roll Band has decided to try to learn this and today was our first attempt at it. You have been a huge help to me, personally, and I just wanted to say thank you. I think I'm in love with your hair AND your brain!! Thanks again, Danny.
So cool that you all are doing this. It inspires an appreciation of how much goes into what looks so easy when true professionals make the magic happen. Love you, Gretchen! 😍😍😍
You can hear the detail and reverence she holds for Page and Zeppelin every time she plays their music. That chart says enough. It should come as no surprise Gretchen was once a commercial pilot and is a classically trained musician . I don't even play the guitar, but I find her fascinating. She is to me a Renaissance women, strong , powerful, and extremely intelligent. And of course it is impossible to ignore her physical beauty.
@@gretchenmenn Was reading an article regarding your composition and arrangement work on "Abandon All Hope". Listening to it now on your site. This is the music of a true genius. An absolute masterpiece.
Always have been into The Stones and Zepplin , I will say this , you give Zepplin a flare that is so bright , sort of a wizard I must say and you and the band just light of the stage and bring such thunder to what you do , look out Jimmy & Robert .........
Great Video, finally got a chance to watch and play along the whole time. Thanks for sharing your gear and set up. Gretchen, on your True Rock amp, It appears your on the crunch channel, can you share your EQ settings. I love the sound of those PAF 36anniversary PUPs. Providence also makes some nice pedals.
Yeah, as I said, heavier than what I believe Jimmy used... but I have used 0.10-0.52s for years, and on my Music Man Silhouette with a floating bridge. So those guages on a Les Paul, which has a slightly shorter scale length (24.75 in verus 25.5) don't feel heavy at all to me. I just prefer the tone of the heavier strings.
heard Jimmy say he played in open G, but the tape was slowed giving it an F sound. you figuring standard tuning took some doing - props for that. and I agree with tone - grittier is better for me too. you very charming and engaging - great work. Ü ♫
Amazing , I have watched a few performances here on yee ole U tube and the Guild theatre really stands out. How is Anna getting such an accurate and extremely cool sound on the harp? I see she is using a standard 58 style mic but it sounds KILLER is that mic channeled in the mix with some major reverb and echo? Whats the secret sauce, Full disclosure my little band is gonna try this one live and I want to get that Harmonica sound. ITS BAYUUUD ACE!!! Thanks Your Pal Tony
Last comment so I worked it out with my drummer pal Frankie Wildman ( Hard Charging Linebacker for the Minnesota Vikings ) HAAA. The way I did it was hearing there were long versions of the riff then short riff oh well as I was typing you said exactly that! LOL
Great job on the videos ! You definitely do your homework . And it shows right up front, how much you love and enjoy doing what your doing . And you do it very well i must say with all do respect ! Your band deserves more recognition for sure . Because I've yet to hear a all dudes Led Zeppelin tribute \ cover band that can actually make it their own .. I mean in no way shape or form, for anything I've said to sound as if its actually a gender or sex type , I'm sure you understand . Communication Breakdown would be greatly appreciated . Keep up the good work, Thank you
Haha. I just think intro as white, verse as blue, bridge as yellow, mix blue and yellow and you got the chorus... Told you I can confuse the hell out of my band mates. 😁 If there is a altered bridge it's just light yellow.
Just wow , so basically , the info you just gave is equal to rocket science , I am surprised NASA hasn't kidnapped you , who would of ever dreamed this song was so in depth , which I have heard it really is but the blueprint you just thru out is such a head spin and to decipher this song , in my thinking , this makes you smarter than Jimmy himself , hats off to you , you just have such class and are so intelligent , talk about hard work an how it pays off , more than just , very interesting , you are genius ; )
Hey Gretchen ,great job you are sooo right the count in that song can be tricky ,ive played with a local Zep tribute here in NC called LEDNECK last 16 yrs such a challenge whats your fav tune to do live , i guess mine is IN my time of dying very intense

I'd LOVE to get to Europe soon! I am teaching a workshop in Germany and doing a performance with my original material in a couple months. And I hope to be back for more shows before long: www.schorndorfer-gitarrentage.de/en/concerts/concerts.html
The truth about alternate tunings is dead simple. You need a guitar that is setup specifically for each single tuning. Ergo: One guitar is not enough. That's our hell. And that's when good and cheap guitars can be very helpful.
I have never seen anyone explain the process like you do. So detailed. So open and honest.
Thank you so much! Really hope it's helpful or interesting to some!

Wonderfull work for Zep fans. Thanks Gretchen ! ( Surprized that you plays 10/52 for Zep stuff )

Very impressive, was unaware of the complexity.
Really loved these videos and the level of detail. Please can you do a video on In My Time of Dying, with the Danelectro?

Great tutorial Menn.
Structure can be tricky, l think in colours and that can confuse the hell out of my band mates.
Thanks for reading.
Ha! Synesthesia in structure! You should make a tutorial of THAT!
Haha. I just think intro as white, verse as blue, bridge as yellow, mix blue and yellow and you got the chorus...
Told you I can confuse the hell out of my band mates. 😁
If there is a altered bridge it's just light yellow.
Considering it was a hybrid tween 12 string and 6...no wonder they never played it live much...props to you

Don’t apologize for that Les Paul. It’s badass. 😀
Taking notes is a good idea ive done that myself
Anyone know who is the bass player in the music video when the levee breaks. She’s really rocking that Bass.
