Time for Nickel plating. I just found a 1690 its in great shape ill have it nickel plated this spring I think the 1690 and 1691 and the 1686 1692 are now worth 2500 dollars restored hard to find models
I just picked up a 2nd version model 120 and am already working on getting the fount apart to clean up for restoration. I have Mouse Milk soaking the threaded portion of the gallery, which given how solid it is I expect is going to take a few days to free up. There's an old wick in there so I'm glad I stumbled across your video in case the wick gives me any problems.
Interesting stove. Never seen this in my country. We had those with a kind of "glow-bulb" above the flame. That gives a better (blue) flame in the actual "burner". Thanks for this upload!
Thank you, I bought a Perfection model 550 and this helps me out a lot. I have been looking for a couple of years for one to heat my garage. I think I have an early model, the gears to drive the wick are just pins that go through the brass rod. Condition is 9/10, I scored it off an online auction for 46 dollars. I did not know about the firelight models, very cool.
Its called ruse . Soak it in releasing oil like plus gass wd40. It may help. Or head it gently with a blow lam but be carefull this should free up any rust.
that's a great idea also...any thin, metal item should do. I'll be interested to see what i find once I remove the wick and see what I am dealing with. I love these heaters. Thanks for the suggestion.
I have also read that this is a very "hard-to-find" model, especially with this type of globe. I just stumbled across it at an antique store for under $20 so I thought it was worth trying to restore this one.....I'm glad I did. Thanks for watching.
If you've seen my part 2 video, the 2nd and 3rd heaters I found at local antique stores so if you can get out to shop around, you might find one. Just be prepared to spend some time and effort or like the other comment, you may end up paying a lot.
I watch several different ways to restore but I can’t find anything to hel me serve my problem .when stripping it down and cleaning everything up the part that sits on top of wick slides down over a cross like attachment that seems to be part of the tank .my problem is this star like is not attached to tank it is loose and falls off and the part it suppose to keep up falls down and smothers the wick.I think I need to buy a new tank but can’t seem to find one.can you guide me to solve this problem?
I think I know what you are referring to. I cant upload a photo but it has 3 supports coming out from the center. All 3 of my heaters have this. I wonder if yours is rusted and came off? Not sure what you can do other than maybe trying to find a replacement for the entire tank assembly.....maybe others will have some suggestions.
I've only restored 3 and 1 was in really great condition so I'm not an expert. Has you searched youtube for more videos? There are tons of videos, even several specifically on how to change the wick, etc. Is there something in particular you are looking for?
Great question. This is my first perfection heater with the porcelain. My other two I jusst sand-blasted and repainted. I'll post an update later this year once I get into the restoration. If I find a solution, I'll let you know. Thanks for the comment.
I have a Coleman lantern that I need to touch up the porcelain on. I’ve used a porcelain touch up paint from Lowes designed for kitchen stoves on a chipped stovetop before and thought this might work but it comes in white only and I need to figure out how to tint it the color I need.
another great idea, especially if someone works in a factory where you can easily find these. I need to look the next time I go into the office. Thanks for the additional idea.
That's a great question. Unfortunately I've never seen any type of serial number to date a specific heater. There are a few websites that have historical info on a range of years for different models. I'll see if I can find one and add that to this post.

I'm not familiar with Mouse Milk...I'll have to look into that as well. Thanks

Glad I could help!
@@scottforce881 I ended up using a hacksaw blade to loosen the wick. I have a leak in the font that I have to find and repair now.
@davidbrennan5 sorry to hear that. I know some that are in rough shape can be very delicate to work on....but worth it

Would look good on a patio. Would be nice if they sold covers for them to protect them from the elements when not in use.
Great video and wonderful heaters
I enjoyed this, Scott. You have a new sub.👍🇨🇦🙂
Thank you very helpful!
I use a hacksaw blade to do the same thing. I like your idea better:).

Great job thank you

Ebay has them. Some are reasonably priced, others not so much.

How do you repair the porcelain on these? I need to do it on one too.

How can I determine what year my profession heater is?

here's a website to help at least get a range of date for various models...I hope this helps. perfectionheaters.jimdofree.com/catalogs-identification/
@@scottforce881 thank you so much for relaxing doing these kerosene heaters
