/ @ajrestoration Ladies and Gentlemen! Here we have a 90+ year-old Primus Kerosene model 5 stove to restore!
The Primus stove, the first pressurized-burner kerosene (paraffin) stove, was developed in 1892 by Frans Wilhelm Lindqvist, a factory mechanic in Stockholm. The stove was based on the design of the hand-held blowtorch; Lindqvist’s patent covered the burner, which was turned upward on the stove instead of outward as on the blowtorch.
The same year, Lindqvist partnered with Johan Viktor Svenson [sv] and established J.V. Svenson’s Kerosene Stove Factory for manufacturing the new stoves which were sold under the name Primus.
The first model was the No.1 stove, which was quickly followed by a number of similarly-designed stoves of different models and sizes.
Shortly thereafter, B.A. Hjorth & Co. (later Bahco), a tool and engineering firm begun in Stockholm in 1889, acquired the exclusive rights to sell the Primus stove.
I hope you enjoy the video.

My USSR grandparents kept talking about these Primus burners. They were a staple in the 30s. When gas stoves became ubiquitous and replaced kerosene burners, some people brought these to the beach and cooked freshly caught fish on them.
These items are jewels of engineering. They will last for ages, perfect for the impending zombie apocalypse. Nice work.
Very true and thank you very much.

We had one exactly the same on the farm many, many moons ago. This brings back fond memories.
Throwback just remembered our kerosene pump stove that we are using when I was a little boy. My mother used to bring it to the repair shop just to replace the burner and the loosen gasket of the pump and charge her in not a considerable price I think that I can able to do it. Luckily I have found an adjustable wrench drop by a speeding tricycle. So I'm the one who's replacing the burner when needed. I m happy coz I conribute a little help for our poor family. Thanks for the memory God bless us ♥️
From South Korea.
Wow.....stunning restoration, I'm sure any outdoor enthusiast would love to have this in their collection. Greetings from Stockholm!!
Thank you very much!

In itself it looks nice, but it could be much better. The Burner can also be polished. There is also a part missing from the Burner!!
In your case, the Burner Cap consists of fire-resisting steel, but an Inner Cover still needs to be placed underneath! Then it burns much quieter.
What I also missed is the disassembly of the pump valve! This is an extremely important part, without which the stove cannot be used.
Maybe you can show this again in a next episode?
Good luck,
Jan
You are absolutely right. This is an unfinished restoration.
I just managed to get one of these going after many years. I had found it in the local tip shop over 20 years ago and it had been under the house stored until I reactivated it. Satisfying restoration video. Thanks.
I get so much satisfaction from watching these restorations.❤
Thank you! I am glad you like it!
Used it till in the 80's in South African townships. Memories memories
My family used Primus stoves in 50s and 60s. There was also a "silent burner " model. The pump used to be at an angle.... nice..
Thanks for sharing
This is a silent burner, the other version is a roarer burner , which as it’s name implies burned like a blow lamp.
Well done, nice job, better than new now 👍💪❤️
Well I have learned something new today that Primus is Swedish brand, excellent restoration too.
Thank you for watching and glad you could take something away from our video.
Bacana !
If you show just the Before and After pictures no one is going to believe it's the same thing lol. Awesome
Thank you for the motivating reply.
Nice job with the restoration, there should be two parts to the burner, you are missing a second inner cap to the burner.
True, I never knew that until the resto was done.
Thank you for giving these things a second chance,, we are too much of a throw away society today.
That is true!
Great restore. For me it was peaceful to watch. :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
It turned out great! Thanks for the background info 👌 Greetings from Sweden!
Awesome! Thank you!
Nice to know what I can achieve with expensive technologies like sandblasting and powdercoating that I definitely have sitting around in my garage!
Folks I grow up with one of those and I was living alone for four years learning the trade electrician and I was 12 years old around 1956 but I remember this think to used every day cooking !
External finishing is so nice but the of tunki and Burnie is most important
Very good restoration 👍 Thanks for sharing 🍺
Thank you too!
Hello beautiful restoration good job

MY DAD HAD THIS SAME MODEL AND I HAVE GOT IT DID NOT KNOW HOW TO START IT UP THANKYOU
Glad I could help!
Beautiful
Thank you
Congratulations...amazing work,thank you for vídeo!
Thank you too for the watch and comment.
that turned out just beautiful!! great job!!!
Thanks for watching, highly appreciated.
This is a kerosine stove right ??? This really burns so clean and nice.
Correct its a kerosene lamp.
@@AJRestoration Job well done Sir. Attention to details RULES.
Nicely done 👍👍👍Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching
This is a 20th Century stove probably in the 50's or 60's. There should be a date code embossment. With that said, Primus stoves are very desirable to own and use, and are welll constructed, assuming you don't lose the loose parts. Very nice job polishing! Many replacement parts are still available.
Thank you for the info. We have done some more research and updated accordingly.
Spectacular!!! Sara
that's a very nice
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice restoration job brother. Like from India.
Ive had a 00 since 1970. The keys are 1) use light fluid or denatured alcohol to warm the kerosene 2) CLEAN kerosene. Filter 2x or 3x or you will have intermittent firing
I am wondering how the powder coat will hold up with the flame heat. Nice either way. Thumbs Up!
Thank you! Cheers! We have restored a WWII kerosene (ua-cam.com/video/A4nF0KXEZZ8/v-deo.html) as well with powder coating and used it several times. We haven't seen any issues yet.
Awesome work, again, dude! Looks fantastic! 🍻🤘💜
Thank you buddy! Cheers!
Beautiful work explendored ! 👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Very satisfying. Great restoration work and video! 👍🏻 Super relaxing to watch!🤟
Thank you very much!
@@AJRestoration Don't stop doing vids . I look forward to each new episode!
Just a suggestion regarding the small parts, (this from many reloadings of bass bullets), if you use walnut shell medium in the tumbler with a tablespoon of brasso followed by washing the bass in lemishine dishwasher detergent the brass parts will shine like gold without any erosion from the abrasive tools and you will spare yourself the bruise under your thumb nail. The rest was a labour of love.
Nice! I have one smaller than yours and one same size that is never used. Here in Sweden many collect things like this.
Oh cool! Very nice
Great restoration especially like hearing the birdsong in the background.
Thank you very much!

@@AJRestoration You're very welcome and looking forward to your next video
this one was bitter sweet my darling daddy had one back in the 60s and 70s only difference is he used methylated spirit as the starter/primer fuel
What an amazing restoration. BONZA.
Thank you.
What was the point of adding soft solder to the side of one of the legs? The original attachment method was either brazing or silver-soldering, which produce a bond at least as strong as the metal being joined. The temperatures involved are much higher. Note that the legs survived the blasting without problem.
The soldering was added to all of the legs. We don't show the entire tedious process.
The legs were soldered to the body. The original attachment method was in fact not brazed or silver-soldered. All 3 legs had small cracks running down that needed reflowing and in this case the leg had to be taken off entirely and resoldered. Silver solder would have a much more shiny finish, and brazing would not be as smooth as normal lead solder that has been flowed. Also, almost anything can survive the blasting, even though it is a semi destructive way of removing surface imperfections, it is no way near abrasive enough for something not to survive the process. It all depends on the grit and air pressure used in the process.
Wife: "Why have my last two cakes smelt of paint?"
You: "Um .... I have no idea."
I have one of these I did not realise how efficiently they burnt, but with paraffin over£2 a lt I think I will stick to a little wood burner.
Thank you very much for watching.
Brilliant job.
Odlicna restavracija!!! Cestitki
I suggest using tripoli first, followed by rouge second in your polishing. It will go faster.
Thanks for the tip!
Well done 😃👌🏼
Thank you! Cheers!
Keep it up God bless you
Thank you so much
Great job!
Thanks for the visit
Gorgeous!
Very very nice 👍👌👌 restoration.....
Thanks a lot 😊
nice work
Thanks for the visit
Hello vietnam✋✋
Thank you for watching
What kind of paint did u use to powder coat pls
Great work! :)
Thank you so much!
Amazing job AJ 👍 looks like a work of art. Can I ask how the black powder coating on the top held up to the heat and the flame ?
Over time it does burn off, mine still looks great, I have not used it since the restoration.
@@AJRestoration ok cool 👍 thanks for getting back to me
My grandma used this but not spirit, it was kerosene oil. And it was from 1940's British india as i am from india.
They are extremely durable.
Hopefully by summer there will be a new toenail. Well, the work is good.)))
Yes, thanks. :)
I gave the thousandth like, good restoration. Well-functioning kerosene stove

Luiz vai enfrente,do jeito que bujão de gas.o preço aumenta e o canal o Primus...UM ABRAÇO JORGE do CHILE
Did you check the NRV ?? only I did not see you do that!! but you have made a brilliant job of cleaning it up, well done.
So beatiful!
Mine is lighting yellow flame i need to fix that please
GAS IS VERY EXPENSIVE , TODAY I STILL USE ONE LIKE THIS.......
Awesome work
Thank you! Cheers!
WOW...Amazing work. How long did all this restoration take? I picked up a similar model at a yard sale, and want to clean it up, to like New condition, too! Luckily it's no where as bad of shape, as yours. But your video will definitely be my guide! Thank you for sharing!
So Primus is a brand! It became a common name for such stoves in Soviet Russia.
You are right Primus is a product name. I think many well known brands over the years get related to a specific function.

Thank you Hamid! :-)
Mate what medium did you use for sand blasting?
Its medium grit silica sand. For softer metals I just use lower pressure.
I don't know where you get your items from to restore but you seem to have a number of items which are the same or very nearly the same as I do, lol! I acquired my Primus stove from my late father and the one I have is not as old as yours but the looks of it is nearly identical even though they were probably made about 40 years apart. Only difference is in the words/branding stamped into the metal plating. They don't change these designs much I guess!
That is awesome haha they made millions of them
Great job! Cook some eggs and bacon on that sucker! 😁🤩
Thank you. We would love to do that soon.
nice job
Thank you! Cheers!
FALTAN DOS PARTES.GRACIAS.
A word of advice: stay away from regulated burners as they don't age well...they leak and catch on fire, spares are almost impossible to find. Unregulated burners however will last forever with occasional desooting by heating it up with propane torch and quenching in cold water couple of times.
Did you replace the NVR pip? If you did I missed it. If not then that should always be replaced.
I did not replace, sourcing parts in my country is a nightmare.
Did it work before you reconditioned the old stove ? Did you boil a pot of water ?
We tend to not test most of the items that produce fire before restoration for fear of blocked or faulty nozzles.
hello, I would like to ask how many millimeters is the internal diameter of the flame spreader, its height and the diameter of the holes, thanks
Probably 2 to 3mm
@@AJRestoration I would also like to ask, is it possible to use technical alcohol? or not? thanks for the reply
dear sir, i own one of these primuses. it used to be my Dads. we used it when we went night fishing a long time ago, late 70s. do you have any info as to where i can get spares. i would love to put it back into service. thanks....
Jakob Rebeki EBay is a good source for spare for these. I have 3 and got all my parts there.
Thanks for sharing
@@salr362 thanks....
What is the heat resistant colour to use the heated portion?
🙏 Very nice work.👏💯💜
