    / @ajrestoration Ladies and Gentlemen! Here we have a 90+ year-old Primus Kerosene model 5 stove to restore!
    The Primus stove, the first pressurized-burner kerosene (paraffin) stove, was developed in 1892 by Frans Wilhelm Lindqvist, a factory mechanic in Stockholm. The stove was based on the design of the hand-held blowtorch; Lindqvist’s patent covered the burner, which was turned upward on the stove instead of outward as on the blowtorch.
    The same year, Lindqvist partnered with Johan Viktor Svenson [sv] and established J.V. Svenson’s Kerosene Stove Factory for manufacturing the new stoves which were sold under the name Primus.
    The first model was the No.1 stove, which was quickly followed by a number of similarly-designed stoves of different models and sizes.
    Shortly thereafter, B.A. Hjorth & Co. (later Bahco), a tool and engineering firm begun in Stockholm in 1889, acquired the exclusive rights to sell the Primus stove.
    I hope you enjoy the video.
    If you have any suggestions for improvement, or compliments share them below! #ASMR

    My USSR grandparents kept talking about these Primus burners. They were a staple in the 30s. When gas stoves became ubiquitous and replaced kerosene burners, some people brought these to the beach and cooked freshly caught fish on them.

    Throwback just remembered our kerosene pump stove that we are using when I was a little boy. My mother used to bring it to the repair shop just to replace the burner and the loosen gasket of the pump and charge her in not a considerable price I think that I can able to do it. Luckily I have found an adjustable wrench drop by a speeding tricycle. So I'm the one who's replacing the burner when needed. I m happy coz I conribute a little help for our poor family. Thanks for the memory God bless us ♥️

    In itself it looks nice, but it could be much better. The Burner can also be polished. There is also a part missing from the Burner!!
    In your case, the Burner Cap consists of fire-resisting steel, but an Inner Cover still needs to be placed underneath! Then it burns much quieter.
    What I also missed is the disassembly of the pump valve! This is an extremely important part, without which the stove cannot be used.
    Maybe you can show this again in a next episode?
    Good luck,
    Jan

    Bacana !

    This is a 20th Century stove probably in the 50's or 60's. There should be a date code embossment. With that said, Primus stoves are very desirable to own and use, and are welll constructed, assuming you don't lose the loose parts. Very nice job polishing! Many replacement parts are still available.

    Just a suggestion regarding the small parts, (this from many reloadings of bass bullets), if you use walnut shell medium in the tumbler with a tablespoon of brasso followed by washing the bass in lemishine dishwasher detergent the brass parts will shine like gold without any erosion from the abrasive tools and you will spare yourself the bruise under your thumb nail. The rest was a labour of love.

    What was the point of adding soft solder to the side of one of the legs? The original attachment method was either brazing or silver-soldering, which produce a bond at least as strong as the metal being joined. The temperatures involved are much higher. Note that the legs survived the blasting without problem.

    • @AJRestoration
      @AJRestoration  3 роки тому +1

      The soldering was added to all of the legs. We don't show the entire tedious process.

    • @AJRestoration
      @AJRestoration  3 роки тому +2

      The legs were soldered to the body. The original attachment method was in fact not brazed or silver-soldered. All 3 legs had small cracks running down that needed reflowing and in this case the leg had to be taken off entirely and resoldered. Silver solder would have a much more shiny finish, and brazing would not be as smooth as normal lead solder that has been flowed. Also, almost anything can survive the blasting, even though it is a semi destructive way of removing surface imperfections, it is no way near abrasive enough for something not to survive the process. It all depends on the grit and air pressure used in the process.

    Tuve varios Primus en mi casa en mi juventud, se usaban tanto para cocinar como tambien para calefaccionar.
    Como trabajo de restauracion esta muy bueno, la falla que hizo a poco de encendido se debe a una fuga de gas en la parte inferior de la valvula, ahi lleva una arandela de amianto o similar para sellar la union de ambas piezas. En general buen trabajo.

I acquired my Primus stove from my late father and the one I have is not as old as yours but the looks of it is nearly identical even though they were probably made about 40 years apart. Only difference is in the words/branding stamped into the metal plating. They don't change these designs much I guess!

    A word of advice: stay away from regulated burners as they don't age well...they leak and catch on fire, spares are almost impossible to find. Unregulated burners however will last forever with occasional desooting by heating it up with propane torch and quenching in cold water couple of times.

    Отлично ! Но !!! Пламя ушло под колпачок - тушить надо немедленно !
    Возможно поможет замена фосунки на меньший диаметр выходного отверстия.
