You make it look easy and it ain't! I've cut my own hair for 30 years. It's impossible to find a decent hairdresser around here to cut short hair. I finally decided I could mess it up all by myself. Turns out I did a better job than they did.
A lot of useful advice like not pressing your bangs down and let it free when you cut it. I always thought you had to have a 2nd mirror to cut the back of your head, but I guess it's not necessary. And I love the fact you posted the whole video unedited, so we can see the whole process without cuts. Well done!
Best video showing a pixie cut that can be done at home. Ive cut my own for years but clicked on this wanting another persons technique. Glad I did because I picked up on a few things . TY so much. You do a great job!
I was getting my hair cut about every six weeks and would just take pot luck on which beautician in the salon would take care of it. I always gave the identical orders on what I wanted done and every time I'd walk out with a different haircut - some good, some bad. Well, I'm a dog groomer. I finally decided about ten years ago, if I can do a Doodle I can do my own hair. So once a month I take a clipper, snap on combs and get to it. Takes a few minutes but I get what I want every time and it costs ZERO. Saved hundreds a year and looks better than the salon cuts.
That is awesome!! I did that for years never quite getting what I wanted either. Started cutting it myself to get what I wanted and got compliments...ended up becoming a hairdresser...still cutting my own though!! I have clipped a few dogs in my day too lol!!
DoubleDogDare54. I KNOW just WHAT you mean about salon haircuts 🙄. I am a retired hairdresser/stylist after 30 years. I have had SO many disappointing hair cuts😢. WHY hair stylists cannot, or will not LISTEN when we explain, or even take a picture of the cut we want. They just do whatever they want, as fast as they can, & send us home disappointed AGAIN 😢. I did my own cuts, perms, etc for years, but old age & arthritis pretty much prevents it anymore, so continue to TRY a stylist THAT KNOWS HOW TO CUT HAIR. AM I ALONE IN THIS CHALLENGE 😥? Correction TRY TO FIND A STYLIST
Good for you! I'm chicken, but I'd like to try, haha. I agree with you about stylists, and I've been to many of them over the years!!! Whenever I found one I trusted I stayed with them as long as possible 😉
Due to illness, I've been stuck at home & have been looking for a diy haircut for my fine hair. It took me a long time, but I've finally found what I've been looking for in your video. Thank you for providing your haircut & styling technique for those of us with fine hair.
I wanted to thank everyone for the nice e comments. Lots of home hair cutters on here!!! If times get much worse and more expensive, we may all become home hair cutters. If ya'll have questions or ideas for another video, let me know! God bless
Love this! I've been cutting my own hair for +15 years. Since I only use scissors, I needed an instructional on how to take it from slightly longer to a Pixie. This gives me the confidence to go for it. Thank you.
First time I ve seen this I have the same hair style and use to have it cut every 3weeks was getting expensive so now I will give it a go myself you have made it look so easy Thank you your hair looks lovely 🌹❤
I cut my own hair for 50 plus years and cut it pretty short but haven't used clippers. It's a lot of touch and feel but it satisfies me. Thank you for sharing. You did great.Loved watching this.
I cut my own hair also and you did a fantastic job. I have been cutting my own hair since I was about 12 years old. You look beautiful and saved yourself about 75 dollars! This was so enjoyable yo watch! Thank you.❤️❤️❤️❤️
My mom alway cut her own and my hair, when I was a kid. I was referred to a great haircutter in my 20s. I watched his cut techniques, as I had my mom's years before. After I moved, finding a haircutter who gave me a cut I liked seemed impossible. And after a horrendous cut that made me want to drive off the road, I began cutting my own hair and have gotten consistent compliments over the years. Amanda, thank you for sharing your techniques and tips. I will be applying them to my own cuts! ❤
I have seen so many videos where there are tons of products used. This was so good!! Thank you! All the extra products were just weighing my hair down!
You're a classy lady with a classy haircut !! Every so often, i try to cut my hair, but i can never get the scissors to go where i want them to and find it really difficult!! Im from England and what you call bangs, we call it a fringe. I just love the different names that other countries use 😊
Many thanks for this video! I have been cutting my own hair for years but I learned so much from this. You look fabulous and my hair will look much better thanks to you.
I’ve cut my own hair for over 30 years. I learned a couple of things regarding the sides! Very helpful! I have found only ONE hairdresser who would use clippers on my hair. Thanks for the great tutorial!! 😊
Love this! I've been cutting my own hair for years but have yet to buy myself electric clippers. I'm still afraid I'll go too short. I really don't like my ears out completely but this last time I cut with my scissors, I went too far, lol. My top front needs some wispiness so will work on that today. Wish I had more gray-white. Mine has been coming in gradually over the years. Anyway, thanks for the nice long demonstration.
What a fabulous video! My hair is similar to yours and my cut is too. I already do some of the things you do but I picked up a few new techniques. Thank you for taking the time to film and explain this!
I have had the same hairdresser for about 35 years & in that time no one else has ever cut my hair apart from me trimming my fringe during COVID. I figured I'd watched him cut it so many times I knew how to do it & it was ok, but I would never want to cut my own on a permanent basis. He is a treasure & I look forward to my pampering session every six weeks or so. I've had many different colours & styles over the years & have complete trust in his judgement. He was just 18 years old when he first did my hair after my previous stylist left the salon 😊☺️
I have cut my own hair all my life, also many many women throughout my younger years. I enjoyed cutting hair, but now, I only cut my own hair, my back is really bad, so when women ask me who cut my hair, I have to tell them, “ I can’t cut other’s because my back is out of commission, LoL! You did a wonderful job on cutting your hair!👍💜🌸💕
Good for her! Nice work. I have cut my own hair for almost 40 yrs. I used to cut it in almost that same style for 15 yrs at least. Often using the clippers at the nape as well. Then I decided to see if I could tolerate long hair again. I grew it out and haven't returned to pixie yet. Now I'm just trying to let my gray grow out. After coloring my own hair since I was 14, this has been very slow & difficult for me to accept that I'm no longer a "blonde". Of course I also cut my husband's & kid's hair for some years. The money we saved!👍 P.S. the beauty of hair is, a little mistake always grows out. Don't fret about it.
this is exactly how my hair looks the best and i never get it cut exactly like this but its the way i like it just like yours..thanks for the video..i try post it on facebook but they blocked me from the posting.Unreal.
It takes guts to cut your own hair. I'm gutsy too! But every once in a while I need a Pro to get the shape back. This was a great cut and good direction. It looks very good with your face shape. And I agree, at $75 a cut, I could do other things with that money. I think a lot of women had to shift and adapt during Covid. Women are pros at that anyway! Job well done!
Thank you! We always cut each other's hair when I was a young girl. My mom had me cutting, perms, coloring, we were in the mountians in the 50s and 60s with depression kids as parents so we learned to do everything we could. Even when I was grown and moved to my job my mom would wait for me to come home and cut her hair. Thanks for showing me how to do my own🎉
Glad to help. When I first went out on my own, I could not afford to go get mine cut, so I cut my own. When people started asking me who cut my hair and I told the I did it myself, they wanted me to cut their's. So I became a hairdresser!!
You did a great job!! I was so.glad for your video. My hair just got cut really short to even out a previous cut, and I didn't know how to make it look more polished. Thank you for your tricks!! I will use them.tomorrow!!
amazing!!! I have cut my own hair but when it comes to doing the back, well that is so hard, i wish I could take my hands off so that I can cut straight!! thank you for sharing....I will follow your tips.
you are an attractive woman and your cut is spot on! I have a bob and Im getting a Pixie so I can let my hair grow out natural. Haven't seen my own color for 40 years!
When covid came, I started doing my family's haircuts. No clue what I was doing. I do my own too. One of the family has extremely curly hair and they wanted it a longer cut. One has very fine thin hair and in the back, underneath is extremely wavy. What a learning experience! Nobody went anywhere and we all looked hilarious! Watched youtube videos to learn about follow the guide, hair trimmers, etc. This video has really helped me with bangs, the crown, and trimming my own with shears. The last haircut I gave myself was pretty choppy. I will try again. Thanks for the help! It is fun to do it. Hope you keep doing videos to teach us how cut hair.
I've done my own for decades - short styles, perms, & now nearly shoulder length & concave in the back - former cosmetologist, but not for very long. My daughter does a beautiful job on her long hair; has always done hers, too, although I did it up until she was married.

I understand that!!! I would get mine cut then come home and redo it!
Just a suggestion, Diane. A barber does such a clean cut if it’s very very short.
