- After a black USPS delivery man secretly taped a deranged woman's racist tirade against him, the term "going postal" is bound to re-enter our cultural lexicon, this time to describe the crazed customer. In fact, the postal worker remained remarkably calm during the whole fiasco.
The epic story out of Hingham, Massachusetts went down like this: Apparently a woman signed for a certified letter that was delivered to her address, but then decided she didn't want it because it was for her husband and not herself.
She then tried to return the letter to the mailman -- but, of course, you can't actually do that because it is against the law. So instead of doing something rational like sticking the letter back in her mailbox, or, say, giving it to her husband, she went nuts and started screaming at the mailman. At one point she actually reached in and slapped him across the face.
The video gets progressively more racist as it goes on -- just when you think she can't possibly say anything more horrifically offensive, she goes and outdoes herself. It's almost performance art, really. The worst kind of performance art ever.

@Nikki Deas My uncle went off his meds and assaulted a mailman. The police were called and if the mailman wanted to press charges it would be a federal crime. Thank god he agreed to go the hospital psych ward for evaluation rather than be charged. Yeah...they take that shit seriously.

I'm a retired mailman. I remember the supervisor telling us that interfering with the postal service carried a mandatory sentence of 2 year in prison or fine of $2,000 or both.

I bet that certified letter was a collection notice, they do that to verify if a person is still living at the address they have for the person. Or it could be that they are notifying her of possible legal action if she does not contact them. She opened it, saw what it was and then tried to give it back to the postman and get the certified card that he had with her signature so collections would think she did not live there anymore. But TOO LATE!

As a retired postal worker, I can confirm that he cannot give her signature back. The real reason is because whoever sent the damn letter paid for the signature. Also, the woman is a demeaning, horrific racist who deserves nothing. No courtesy and most importantly, no service. That would have been the last day she received mail to her address if I was the postmaster. How do you like those apples??
