Check the AWD on the XC90, the splines in the transfer box tend to eat themselves so it's a whole new unit now as the decent 2nd hand ones have been snapped up and you can't buy the splined shaft on its own, communication between the ECU and the gearbox can be a bit dodgy too as water has a tendency to get in to the wiring plugs and the computers.

The q7 is great but 3rd row seating is poor but watch out for the 4.2 v8 petrol you will spend 4 days changing a timing chain or cam belt.
The disco is great-expect a buggered gearbox and fragile electronics, it is poorly designed and the 3rd row seating is apalling-the boot space is also lack luster with all 7 seats compared to the q7 and especially the xc90

I think any component that has motor can fail, like steering pump, alternator, suspension pump, if motor has brushes, they wear and it becomes dusty inside. Also dust will enter the motor, especially if it's under the car exposed to air. Overheating during the years makes the wiring in the motor cause shorts.
Even the motor starter has solenoid and brushes. Any component that has rubber gasket which becomes old after a few years needs inspection.
Thus there are lots of failure points?

I realise there is a somewhat limited amount of vehicles that can be shown, but, less than a handful is not that helpful. Perhaps you could do several parts, thereby covering a greater number. ?

It’s wise to go with the Volvo.... forgive me, but the Disco and the Q7 are not the most reliable (this is my opinion, your obviously entitled to your opinion)

As long it's not a petrol version the xc90 is built to last. If maintained regularly. The Audi is quite reliable with the petrol v8 or the diesel v6. But only without all the gimmicks making him nice like air suspension which are a threat to your wallet. But marking up any Discovery as a good choice? Holy shit. This car is one of the worst vehicles i ever worked on with numerous problems even with low mileage. My personal advise for anyone is stay away as far as you can from the Land Rovers. The Audis are good if you can work on them yourself but the best of the trio is the Volvo. A Xc90 from up to 06 in good condition is a no brainer

    People says that
The discovery's air suspension is crap, it's also keep breaking down, and it's depreciating a lot.
The volvo is reliable or some people say that Volvo _isn't_ reliable because it keeps breaking down and the parts are expensive.
The Audi is too big and it's a "reliability disaster".
And Some people suggest that :
Just buy a _Toyota_ Land Cruiser or a Lexus because they are reliable and holds the value really good

She just choosed the only one of three which ..ISN'T "four by four" as she said, but instead is some kind of PART-time awd and is really useless in offroad or even slippery conditions 😂😂.. haldex can't provide permanent awd and not part time bias on it (supercars which use this system, got it on the FRONT axle, which doesn't really matters after launching)

We paid 90 grand for our Toyota Prado Grande of the highest spec with every option second hand after it had been used for 2 months. The previous owner was someone big up in Toyota so it also has factory options like a bigger screen sat nav and heated seats that at the time were unavailable to buy in this car or in any other car (x5 q7 GLS xc90) none of them had that stuff. Now these ones are worth fuck all and ours despite it being a late 03 model could easily be sold for 20k upwards

Or, you could just buy a Land Cruiser or a Land Cruiser Prado that is a bit older, but 10-100x more reliable. But of course, badge snobs dont buy Land Cruisers. There are some people who like to say, lets go out tonight, I will pick you up in my Audi Q7! Like that means a fucking thing xD Never buy german cars for less than 30k euros.
