Edgars Ļebedevs I bet one cayenne like that one would easily be just 6-8 grand.. but that's only because of the high depreciacion of right hand drive cars. The range rover seemed really smooth looking on the outside wich is rare for it's age and britain weather... I bet it is around 4 grand. the bmw is just in price as they stated. more important is the fact they are all big engines that also seem to depreciate a lot compared to regular sized engines. on the other hand owning a x5 3.0D means you can use 3-5-7 series as donnors for parts which is nice.
If you are in the market for a second hand BMW then go always for a well maintained one and respect the price. Those owners took the time and money to keep it up for years to come which will be your benefit as well if you buy it. BUT If it looks anywhere like the owner has just used it and done only borderline nescessarities to keep the car alive then either get a very good price on the deal or walk away. If you buy it cheap (which is okay if you plan to do all the service later) you can remedy the bad thigs the car had to live with but if the price is too high then leave it be and go searching for another one. Keeping up a well maintained BMW is easy and fun to do while keeping up a badly maintained BMW is pretty much a money pit a lot of people are talking about. There is no cheap BMW. Ever. Either you pay for it on the start or you pay for it along the way when you start cheap. Both is okay when you account for that but it is a sad drama when you think you bought a bargain BMW that was the cheapest one on the market (or one of the cheapest).
We actually got one of these cars, a black Cayenne S. They actually look pretty good in dark color like Black, hardly dated especially if detailed well. And no we are not smug, rich wannabes. I am just a car enthusiast on a budget and I find the Cayenne to be a pretty good car, I am still experimenting on the cost of ownership... but so far its ok. We also have at the same time a Land Cruiser Prado 90. They are very different cars, the Cayenne is a all you can do car. The combination of my Skyline and Land Cruiser. It has gone on light off road, so far even with street tires it can keep up with the Land Cruiser. I am planning to swap the 20" tyres to a 18" AT tyre on light off roads, as despite the Cayenne can go high and has a proper low gear transfer case the tires is what will hold it back on off roads. So just swap the tires depending on the drive on the weekend.
Nice. I have a Turbo 955 and a Turbo 958. The latter being LPG. Not really brave enough to LPG the 955 because their engines are already om the edge and LPG heat can kill them.
Anybody can buy these cars, but not everybody can afford to own one for a prolonged period of time. There is a reason why in the states, a 04 x5 is like $6k while an escalade is more like $12k. The escalade will make it to 150k miles without all your car computers frying. And its a leather yukon and yukons last for a very long time
The comments below are so correct. All these vehicles would be lovely, nearly new. If you are well heeled, then go for a 3 year old low mileage version of any of these. Older exotic cars can be astonishingly expensive even if you get them free. Where did Tiff get his prices of repairs from? Not from the real world, even from independents, I feel certain. If you're OK at easy jobs, go for an old Toyota Colorado (or Shogun). Get it, say, 12 years old, 130K m and £4K, then use it.

British cars have nice designs but their built quality is really bad. They break all the time. Had some experience with range rovers and jaguars at our car shop. And spare parts are expensive.
The range rover has the best offroad capabilities, but stuff breaks everytime. I know someone owning the second gen and he needs to fix something quite often. Spare parts are also not the cheapest ones. The x5 and cayenne suck offroad but are higher quality builts. So it all depends on what you're looking for.
This is TERRIBLE advice. There is no such thing as a high-end SUV on a budget. If you can only afford 6,000 pounds for a vehicle, you shouldn't be buying anything with a luxury label. The repair costs will very quickly end up costing you more that the value of the vehicle.
Lance Clark I agree. I wouldn't call any of those 3 "reliable". They promoted buying gas guzzling, unreliable, and costly to fix vehicles on a tight budget. That's an oxymoron.
palebeachbum I'm horrified really, it seems that technology and reliability no longer have a relationship. Do these company's have any integrity knowing that they produce a product that becomes worthless in such a short time? Those cars should be parked outside the head office of each manufacturer as a reminder of the poor product they produce.
Ryan Winter always thought the 02 03 04 05 plates etc were introduced in march of that year weren't they? So an 03 plate would be from march 2003 and an 04 plate from march 2004 etc and the 52 53 54 55 plates etc always from September of that year? So surely an 03 plate would be from march 2003 to September 2003? So that Range Rover in the video must be between march 2003 and September 2003, supposedly after it ended production in 2002? Or am I getting this all wrong lol
if they were reliable they are not gonna be priced at a thousand pounds , second hand vehicle's value are based on it's reliability. except those eurobeat vehicles , they got drift tax on it.
Owning a LandRover out of warranty is like playing Russian Roulette with your sanity. The BMW X5 with the 4.4 V8 can be summed up in one word, shxt! The reliability of the v8 X5 is probably no better than a LandRover. It's a shame BMW "cheaped" out so much on the quality of parts otherwise it could of been one of the greats. Although the Cayenne V8 has its flaws, it will probably be the more reliable choice when compared to these offerings. Just make sure the coolant pipes, driveshaft, valve cover gaskets, and coolant over flow tank have been replaced by now. I have a 2005 CTT that I purchased with 46k on the clock and although it hasn't been as reliable as I hoped, its one helluva a machine when you open the loud pedal.
People like to slag off land Rovers as unreliable but I know a Defender owner who bought his one brand new 11 years ago and it has never broken down and never had a penny spent on repairs, just routine oil changes and minor service parts. I would steer well clear of all the modern stuff from he second generation Range Rover onwards as they are stuffed with too much electronics and as these vehicles age the reliability suffers. The ultimate SUVto me would be a 1st generation Range Rover wi manual gearbox, which ha been properly rebuilt and all the rust got rid of. Nice simple reliable motors - if you can find one that's solid and hasn't been bodged full of body filer and given cheap respray to hide all the horrors!.
The only real hero here is the Range Rover with the 2.5TD BMW engine and coil suspensions...That configuration makes the Range Rover bulletproof, apart from the climate control problems, but otherwise indestructible
The cayenne turbo is so beautiful. My brother had one of those a few years back and I would get to take it to school in my teens. Even passed my road test in it. 😭 good times
I have the cayenne turbo 955 with 450 hp. It’s fucking insane even in today’s standards. If you have a steady income I would say it is very well worth the money, just be on the lookout on some major maintenance if the previous owners didn’t want to spend on it. I had to spend 5000 € on it after buying it for around 13.000€ but it’s still bargain for that kind of performance and road presence. Oh and yes the tires were around 1000€
Annual maintenance on any of these is a minimum of $2000 USD a year, and that's just to keep one of these running. Then there's the cost of the extra fuel that it burns. I have an older, "lightly driven" MB E320 with very few mechanical issues, and yet I am astounded at the cost of the plastic junk and aging electronics that break on it.
@@nomebear that's not entirely true. Own a cayenne for 4 years now and to do the regular scheduled maintained costs nowhere near 2k usd. Nothing major gone wrong. At 150.000km so far.
Frank Burdo the 3.0i in-line 6 with m54 is reliable . i’m not so sure about the v8 ones . it has a quite a lot of plastic so be at look out for coolant leaks in the coolant reservoir expansion tank
No mention of the cayennes engine problems? Google it stay clear from the early v8 cayennes bores being scored is common place and is new engine job. Funnily enough the turbo doesn't seem to be affected as I think the bores were coated differently.
The v8 cayenne would be the best choice if you didn’t know about the underlying problem with the early 4.5 engine, they have nickel plated boars liners on if not maintained properly wear and then the pistons start eating into boar, the early signs are a slight tapping from the engine which people confuse with a hydraulic tappet so with my experience with the cayenne the 3.2 v6 is the better choice of early cayennes as for the other two just stay away they are total garbage I have never seen a p38 or X5 that’s not cost the owner a fortune to keep on the road, if your on a budget run a Ford Fiesta not a luxury 4x4 as they all cost a lot of money to keep and maintain them, the easy part is buying them the hard part is keeping up with the running costs.
I agree, the Porsche Cayenne is the way to go⭐️but the 957 is a lot better than this 1st gen 955 if you can afford it 957 Is the way to go and a lot more reliable👍🏻

BUT
If it looks anywhere like the owner has just used it and done only borderline nescessarities to keep the car alive then either get a very good price on the deal or walk away.
Cayenne hands down. I love mine dearly.
I'm debating getting it or an x5
Emad El-Guneid get the Cayenne, it's much better built...
@@MrKeefrichards friend of mine had 3 x5. All of which are crap and broken down constantly. They also don’t have a low range transfer case!
I love my X5!!!
Anybody can buy these cars, but not everybody can afford to own one for a prolonged period of time. There is a reason why in the states, a 04 x5 is like $6k while an escalade is more like $12k. The escalade will make it to 150k miles without all your car computers frying. And its a leather yukon and yukons last for a very long time
You on crack? No 2004 escalade is worth $12k lmao. Also, its an unreliable american POS.
All three of them will leave you on the side of the road, not heroes in my book
ThatGearHead a toyota land cruiser or an old subaru forester will last longer and be more reliable
Simon George how is a subaru forester even compared to these?
My Honda HR-V is more reliable i think.
The Forester would probably be more capable than the Porsche and BMW not to mention as Simon said; it'll be far more reliable!!
Any car can leave you on the side of the road.
The x5 looks for damm good in that color
THE-ALBANIAN-GUY ne shqiptaret e kemi shum qef x5-en
The only car mildly capable off road is the Range Rover. The other two look very cool, specially the X5, but are just gas-guzzling, glorified vans.
ComandanteJ the diesel X5 had decent power and was very good on gas.
I beg to differ. The Cayenne with the right options (Air suspension/Front-Rear LSD) was very capable off-road.
I guess the BMW 5-Series is a gas-guzzling, glorified Dodge Avenger then.
Seeing how insane the Touareg is off road (Touareg, Cayenne and Q7 are just badge engineered variants of the same car), I beg to differ
Karthik Naik The Touareg isn't *that* good off-road. None of these cars would be able to beat that RR offroad.
There's a lot more faults with all of them, you need maybe whole program to talk about them
I bought an 05 plate x5 4.8is with 130k on it. 9 months an 15k miles later an touch wood not a single problem at all
So the unreliable reputation isn't always true
$3750 for a 1st gen X5?!!
Range rovers do not age well at all,,,even modern ones,,,,iv got an x5 4.4 2005 , cannot fault it , it's a beast
Of all these, the BMW x5 aged the most beautifully. It really is a thing of beauty.
BMW X5 e53 is the most underrated bad ass shape of all time , once u get the the common problems of this model dealt with you are left with fit for purpose pound for pound tool! My e53 X5 is proudly parked between my Porsche and the expensive scrap Bentley next to it … take which ever one away u want but hands of my blacked out mafiozee pimp ride lol 😂 ❤️❤️🇬🇧🇬🇧
I love my x5 2006 4.4 still looks great ❤
I have owned my 1 owner 2003 X5 3l sport diesel. with many extras for 5 years. I have had trouble free driving in all that time. It had 22,000 miles when I bought it and still only has 76,000 miles in 2022.
Evertime he said X5 i kept hearing ex-wife 😂😂
British cars have nice designs but their built quality is really bad. They break all the time. Had some experience with range rovers and jaguars at our car shop. And spare parts are expensive.
from heroes at the dealer to zeroes at the dealers gate in 3 sec.
Seluar ketat tetek kecil cipap hitam rambut Sakai
Lexus GX ???? Reliable, great off road, powerfull, luxurious, great looking and cheap
More expensive tho and not as head turning
That's one nice Autobiography right there.
The repair costs will very quickly end up costing you more that the value of the vehicle.
palebeachbum exactly right
palebeachbum They must have been desperate to feature 3 terrible SUV's and market them to anyone.
Lance Clark I agree. I wouldn't call any of those 3 "reliable". They promoted buying gas guzzling, unreliable, and costly to fix vehicles on a tight budget. That's an oxymoron.
Exactly, all of them will constantly break down and will cost a fortune to repair.
palebeachbum I'm horrified really, it seems that technology and reliability no longer have a relationship.
Do these company's have any integrity knowing that they produce a product that becomes worthless in such a short time?
Those cars should be parked outside the head office of each manufacturer as a reminder of the poor product they produce.
You say the Range Rover was made or produced between 1994-2002, but how come the Range Rover in the video is an 03 plate?
e46spartan Ik strange right.
03 plates were introduced in late '02. It's weird, but they're always a few months ahead
Ryan Winter I was going to argue that but the Range Rover in this video isn't a 2002 model; 1999 at best.
You might be right (and probably are)
X5 best one very strongly built
I do like the E53 4.8 but would worry about the maintenance costs on a car that old.
So what about all the talk that seems to be going about the Cayenne and piston bore scoring problems that lead to an engine replacement?
if they were reliable they are not gonna be priced at a thousand pounds , second hand vehicle's value are based on it's reliability.
except those eurobeat vehicles , they got drift tax on it.
Even the Range Rover had an BMW engine available. Those were the days !
It’s unacceptable to sell a 80k car for about 1k
It's perfectly acceptable if you're buying
Fucking chav
I thought they stopped making the P38 in late 2001 early 2002. But that one is on a 03 plate. It could be a private plate.
These cars are so cheap because nobody wants them! Don't buy this unless you're rich or a mechanic..
Joey h
and even if you are mechanic don't buy it because you won't be able to sell it...
Or buy one, strip for parts over a long period and boom earn a few moolah
@@nomebear that's not entirely true. Own a cayenne for 4 years now and to do the regular scheduled maintained costs nowhere near 2k usd. Nothing major gone wrong. At 150.000km so far.
The Cayenne is fucking mank
Hammer Smith disgusting
They are trying to deceive other that they are successful by owning a piece of junk which is not a proper Porsche.
I was wondering if the X5 was anygood? Obviously this video said it was but you don't see many old ones on the road so anyone have any input on this?
Frank Burdo the 3.0i in-line 6 with m54 is reliable . i’m not so sure about the v8 ones . it has a quite a lot of plastic so be at look out for coolant leaks in the coolant reservoir expansion tank
I bought a bmw x5 4.6is in 2002 and for me it is better and more monstrous than a lamborgini
#e53forever
1:51 Check that it's an old Range Rover. If it is, then turn around and run away.
I need to take a trip to England because over on this side to the pond prices are much higher.
Right hand drive are cheaper yes. Go to Europe where they match the US config.
No mention of the Volvo XC90?
That one would make sense, then again its not "baller" enough
No mention of the cayennes engine problems?
Google it stay clear from the early v8 cayennes bores being scored is common place and is new engine job.
Funnily enough the turbo doesn't seem to be affected as I think the bores were coated differently.
Different engine on the turbos
I think The best oane îs The BMW
X5 is probably best option here. Most reliable out the the 3, & generally reliable compared to most EU suvs
No e53 from 3.0 to 4.8is was forced inducted. What you mean turbos might go out? 3:48
JikaInFamous
Diesel models bro*
X5 IS THE BEST ..!!
A £3000 Mk3 Shogun may be the most reliable option.
For an old boring person, you may have stated the perfect one.
The transmission failure is on the pre facelift diesels with the 5 speed auto. The 6 speed auto on the facelift diesel is much better.
What about ML350 w164??
excellent video 👏👏👍👍👍👌
Whats anyones thoughts on the x5 e70 3.0d ? I just bought one with 230,000 miles on it .
Funny that any Land Cruiser is worth more than the 3 of them put together
If you kill someone because you opted to drive a massive murder machine where cars belong should the charges be automatically upgraded to the supercharged premeditated version for bringing an anvil to an airbag fight?
I laughed a lot, when he said these old range rovers were less than reliable. The new ones are worst. Porsche is the ugliest put of all of them. X5 e53 still the best looking on the road
Mad Trader x5 square and falls apart, now the Cayenne... I'm life long Jeep guy... But I drove a Cayenne with the V8... Years later I'm still driving it and love it
I saw that range rover yesterday but it was blue
🤔I would rather a 3.5 or 3.8 Exceed Pajero 😀
Junior Ellis is the a fridge?
@@OverlandTT huh :) sorry i don't understand :)
@@OverlandTT i ended up buying a Pajero as well :)
X5 e53 i have been using it more than one year very reliable eyes catches
Or take Toyota Land Cruiser, and don't worry...
yes!
How you guys pay 1k for these suvs.
In the states the x5 still going for 4k and Porsche 9k
X5 is the best choice with plenty of repair bills.
Oil consumption, suspension,
Plastic everything on the bastard
Don't think you wouldn't go a year without anything going wrong, at your own risk with these
I remember when these were brand new. Now that they're old, they dont feel as special as it was.
I’ve just bought an 06 Reg 3.0 d x5 for the wife hoping the old girl is reliable
Mines been brilliant is yours been good
Lol 1k, none of these in good condition under 10k nowadays…
What is the song during the BMW 4x4?? Really catchy!
dragón atack
Walter Sean darude sandstorm
There is no such thing as running one of these high end cars on a budget . I should know as I own one of them and here is roughly what I've spent just this year on servicing
Engine service £350
Automatic transmission service £370
Transfer case service £ 225
You cant just buy one of these cars and not look after them properly or your asking for trouble .I'm not saying there all unreliable because there not but if something major does go wrong then your looking at a big bill .
My 2006 X5 diesel been amazing
My wife’s sdv8 vogue Range Rover that’s another story
In my opinion the mercedes w163 M class is a combination of luxury , offroad capabilities and reliability.
simon safi they were many years ago when this was originally filmed.
@@OverlandTT just saying 🤷♂️. My mum owned the Infiniti QX4 at that time, it was also an amazing vehicle.
The hero is the Range Rover
Michaelbroto Rahardjo yep
Im going buy all three and will refer back to this comment about reability and performance.
How about ? 😂
