This is a question you should ask Apple engineers.
With iOS 13 and later, Optimized Battery Charging is designed to reduce the wear on your battery and improve its lifespan by reducing the time your iPhone spends fully charged. When the feature is enabled, your iPhone will delay charging past 80% in certain situations. Your iPhone uses on-device machine learning to learn your daily charging routine so that Optimized Battery Charging activates only when your iPhone predicts it will be connected to a charger for an extended period of time. The algorithm aims to ensure that your iPhone is still fully charged when unplugged.
The question then is if an Apple device will have issues if plugged in all the time why does Apple not have software to address, and solve this use case scenario?

ok Rene thanks for this, and thanks for all your great vids. Question: iOS, Android, whatever: are these battery management systems now capable of letting me leave the phone (or MBP, or iPad) on the charger, all day, if I'm not out and about? Does the battery management system handle all that in the background, the way I would expect a smart software system to handle it? I heard you loud and clear about the BMS learning my patterns; does it know it's been plugged in 2 days, 3 days, and handle accordingly? My 2021 MBP M1 Max keeps things "on hold" at ~88% when continuously on the power adapter. I want to think it knows what it's doing, and I can leave it there without "harming" things, the way I would have thought in the past. I’m still on an 7plus I got when it came out. Battery still charges to 100% but I had been doing the 80% thing as I’d heard about that years ago. Think I need up update the iOS from 11 to access the battery optimise setting. I also have one of those 28600mAh portable chargers the size of the phone which is (Planning to upgrade to the 14 max pro this year finally)I think my battery has lasted quite a while due to my screen brightness being set ( by me) fairly low 25% strength. Would that be the case?

I’ll only use maps when I’m not charging and will occasionally use my watch for directions or if I have to use the phone I will turn off the screen when I don’t need it or place it over my ac do it cools it off
But honestly, after 6 months, my battery is 98%, not to mention new phones I believe still under warranty can get a free battery replacement

It's crazy; I have been charging my phone the same way for the past seven years; I charge from about 7pm to about 9pm, and that fills it up. I have never run out of juice in a single day nor have I even been below 20 percent. Ever since the 6 Plus, I've been using the same iPad Mini charge brick (and cable!) to charge my phones. It used to be fast charging on the 6, 6s, 7, 8, and so on, though now of course we can charge even faster. Just for the battery's sake though, and even though I have the 20W charge brick that came with the 11 pro max, I still use that iPad charger so my battery lasts longer. Here's what's confusing. My iPhone 7 Plus, which I had passed down to my mother and then daughter, is at 91 percent battery health. I bought that phone new, at launch, and it's been used daily since then. My iPhone X, which I also bought at launch and has been used daily, including now by my mother, is at 94 percent battery health. My Xs Max is also at 94 percent battery health. (I traded my 11 Pro Max to Apple so I don't have that phone's percentage). And now, my iPhone 12 Mini, which I charge the same way, is at 89 percent battery health. Is that not crazy? I know the battery is smaller on this phone, and in fairness I am going to upgrade when the new phones come out so it's not that big of a deal, but i have to wonder whether there is some issue with the mini 12 iPhone, or maybe just with my unit? Anyway, i still love the size of the Mini, and it's too bad we will never get a Mini Pro iPhone. Because man, would that have been stellar.

I’m not too worried about my phone, that’s always gonna need charging to max, then off out draining on a daily basis. But wish I could limit my MacBook charging. The large majority of the time it’s plugged in constantly connected to a dock. So I can’t just unplug it. So it’s sat there for days or weeks plugged in to the charger. I could so easily limit it to say 80%, then just choose to fill it entirely the once a week or less I actually unplug it and “go mobile”. My MacBook is basically a desktop that I only *sometimes* want to take with me for stuff.

If you keep it plugged in all the time you WILL kill the battery early. You need a “charge limiter” and there are apps to do this. Al Dente is the best application I know of for MacBooks plugged in all the time.
I used mine plugged into a monitor for a long time and the battery swelled enough to pop off the bottom case of the laptop and could have exploded if I did not see it in time.
Trust me, no matter what Apple or Rene says, if you plug in your laptop most of the time you WILL kill your battery sooner unless you get an app to regulate the charge manually.

Apple is feeding MISINFORMATION. I have tried that discharging to 80% on my SE 2020 and I LOST 6% battery health in just a few months. I went back to keeping it on the charger about all the time and at 100% as much as possible and I have only lost 1% health in about 18 months. In my experience, keeping it on the charger as much as possible and at 100% as much as possible gets you the best long term battery health. Another personal example. I treated my original SE the same way. On the charger all the time and at 100% and I used that phone for 4 years and sold it with 99% health remaining. Apple wants to sell us batteries. The batteries are good for so many charging cycles so it makes the most sense to MINIMIZE how many cycles we put on those batteries. Do your own test before just repeating the PROPAGANDA Apple puts out.

You forgot to mention that Apple has miss information code in their battery percentage monitor feature that has been coded to mislead the consumer into thinking that their device is holding its charge at 100% for a longer period which ultimately causes the consumer to always over charge their devices by 5%.

That's what I'm always saying. Why bother about saving your battery life by doing some illogical actions, if these actions are going to limit you even more than the battery would after long time of "abuse"? Feeding battery always up to 80% is an extremely stupid way to go - even extremely bad battery charging profile would take years to limit the battery so badly!
If I some day run into 80% of battery life, I'd just replace it, since the cost isn't too high.
Also, I prefer standard (not fast) induction charging - it doesn't hurt me that phone recharges much slower while I'm sleeping or working, while I save the lightning socket from being worn too quickly and maybe get the battery at least slightly better treated.

Charging past 80% even even if not prolonged does add strain on the battery. Lithium ion batteries in iPhones are no different from any other. The technology has not changed. Top maximise the longevity of thr battery it's best to avoid charging to 100% at all. My iPhone 12 is over a year old but still at 100% health because it's never charged beyond 80%. I don't think there's many people who still have 100% health after a year and a half who rely on Apple's battery optimizer. Apple's battery optimizer reduces wear but it's not thr best way to reduce wear as it does sacrifice some battery longevity for convenience of a full day battery. If you don't need a full day battery and will have access to chargers to top thr battery up, that's better than having Apple charge to 100% every morning. If you can top of tut battery a few times throughout the day that's better for the longterm health if the battery than leaving tut house with 100% battery every day
