@Joe yeah but based on his tweets either he doesn’t understand how apples csam hashing works and why people are pissed, or he’s just plain dishonest.
@@AB-ub9nd Let's see how the Apple apologetics defend this one, I bet it's been 4 days of rigorous researching of how to spin it in favour of Apple. I bet if it was Facebook or Google, there would have been a "...DESTROYED..." video released merely an hour later.
@@yinkuze don’t get me wrong Yinkus, I’m generally a huge Apple fan. I’ve been able to justify and understand a lot of decisions and usually there’s a reason. But this, this just makes me shake my head. I means you know shits bad when they have to take the think of the children angle.
@@AB-ub9nd same here, I use everything Apple, I just want to be able to bet my privacy on them too.
@@AB-ub9nd Of course he is either dishonest, or just doesn't know. Especially when he makes it sound like Apples on-device scanning is about the best way to do it for the users privacy. Which is 100% BS. Rene even tries to regurgitate what Apple thinks or believes, "which Apple believes on-device scanning better maintains user privacy compared to simply scanning the whole entire online photo library.". Apple currently has a web portal for their customers to access their iCloud storage, and those customers can send images, photos, or other data to their iCloud storage. So its OBVIOUS that Apple has to continue scanning their iCloud storage for any of this illegal content on their iCloud servers.
Now you have to ask yourself why scan on-device at all, especially if iCloud has to be enabled anyway, and Apple still has to scan their own servers as well? Its easy to see that other stuff can be scanned on device. Not just child abusive materials, but other things as well, like guns, drugs, people of interest, and the list can go on and on.
With the FTC literally completely failing to do their job this is a big win. Time to END FACEBOOK.
Facebook will never end, it will pivot and transform to something else.
They just handed the good guys a their heads and assets on a silver platter by funding and coordinating a coup of the former sitting president. Class action suits will take what's leftover if the corporation, after they seize assets around the globe. This is how you drain the swamp, not cutting the head off a hydra that will grow into another abomination.
I Go To FB To Give My 0.002 Worth, and Get My 30 Days🤣Kinda Like Hockey Except For The Bench Time Is Longer🤣🤣🤣
Who really needs Facebook?
The old paradigm of governments stepping in to limit or prevent spying on innocent people is a relic of the past. Since the turn of the century at least governments around the world have not only permitted companies to spy on its innocent users they have in many cases imposed requirement that they retain months or years of data. The reason is this: governments want access to that data for there own spying needs and getting the company to retain months of that data, at there expense, is a win-win situation for them. Forty years ago the bread-and-butter activities of companies like FB and Google would have been both illegal and prosecuted, but now there is a symbiotic relationship between these spy companies and governments -- actually the better term would be mutually parasitic. But, FB is the worst of the worst. Mark Zuckerberg looks like Howdy Doody, that is if Howdy Doody were a serial killer!
This is absolutely another reason why everyone should delete any account that is associated with Facebook
idk, leaving instagram is the hardest for me
I work in IT, and I saw this coming about 6 years ago, about the time I deleted my facebook and also my wifes account. My son is 15 and I already explained to him, and showed him why he shouldn't have a facebook account, and fortunately he understands. No Instagram and no twitter accounts in our family. Why would whatsapp need access to my photos? Or my contacts? But Apple is going the same way with that new feature to scan your photos, best of intentions with predicted bad outcome!
@@CGPT76 I agree overall but why wouldn’t WhatsApp need your contacts or access to your pictures. They definitely do especially contacts.
Facebook monitors everything including your phonecalls. Recently I was talking to my daughter on the phone, she asked me a question and the answer had something to do with Elvis Presley. Hours later when I was on FB I was getting video recommendations of old Elvis videos. It was very very weird. I never texted or searched the word Elvis, only said the name once or twice. I deleted the app after that. Fuck Facebook.
They don't monitor your phone calls. It would kill the battery too quickly. Instead, they build social graphs so they know your daughter was interested in Elvis and she contacts you so why not test Elvis on you? It's massive shadow profiling and behavior modeling. Worse than eavesdropping because it's predictive not reactive.
@@ReneRitchie Lawyers of the US or the World, it's time you did your jobs and found out some way that 4 Billion people can class action suit the hell out of Facebook. I want to see Suckerberg on the side of the highway trying to wash car windshields.
@@ReneRitchie I said the word Elvis once or twice in the conversation. And it wasn’t even what she was asking. I just randomly said the name as an example explaining to her how big he was. Then later that afternoon FB suggests I watch two Elvis stage videos from the 70’s. That’s never happened before, ever. They listen, monitor, track, tap, or whatever you want to call it.
@@ReneRitchie as a leftist, we need to fe-monopolize all of these shady giants that are more powerful than the NSA and for sale to the highest bidder with the ability to destabilize an entire nation through extremist funneling and algorithms
@@lefthanded0440 Why don't you just build Woke-Book and compete for customers? Perhaps you could be super successful and represent the great-unwashed of modern times.
Apple..."We will stop other companies from spying on our iPhone users."
Also Apple..."we will backdoor into our customers photos and data to look for things we think you are doing wrong."
Did you catch @Rene Ritchie video on this topic? It was insightful. A bit of information overload for me buy shed light on Apple’s approach.
@@acdnintheusa I have not but I will take a look at that.
i heard they are doing it internally in the phone itself.
@@acdnintheusa While I agree Facebook is way worst than Apple on the privacy front, it is undeniable Apple adding the ability to scan photos straight from the iPhones is a blatant privacy breach from a company who loves to virtue signal about how they care about this issue. Just like they pretend to care about the environment, but force people to buy dongles creating tons of toxic e-waste.
It doesn't matter if the intention is "good", the same feature can be used in the future to scan for people with "problematic ideas". If you can scan for crime, you can scan for religion, political affiliation/beliefs and so on.
Also Apple saying they won't give access to the government is BS. The government can force any company to do whatever they want.
If you point me to @Rene Ritchie being impartial about Apple (all his videos I have watched so far are ultra pro Apple biased), I would consider looking at his opinion about Apple's approach.
@@wilsonfreitas8418 There are none, he does interviews with Apple head honchos and will NOT do anything to jeopardize that. This Apple Home Shopping channel is how he makes his money, so why would he tell the truth about the Golden Goose.
If being morally bankrupt was an olympic sport, Facebook would always win gold.
I beg to differ, they will create adamantium for them, because neither platinum or mithril will suffice..
Lol. We’re in 2021, and they’re still going strong. And I actually thought this 💩 was gonna go crashing down 3 years after it launched. Zuckerberg proved me wrong, and I can honestly say….you and little richie are 100% wrong as well.
And every olympic year, Facebook will set a new world record.
I think you underestimate Apple. Apple claims to be privacy, but they already entered the mobile ad industry in 2010 by buying Quattro Wireless. Nowadays Apple sells targeted ads in the App Store, shares "anonymized" data with Goldman Sachs and will start scanning photos on iOS.
@@silvercomet5330 He said morally bankrupt.....💩💩
Anyone here after the Apple scanning iCloud photos 😂
I ditched FB years ago and haven’t ever felt like I’m missing something. I didn’t like it back when it was at least somewhat innocent, and I’m not sure how anyone can fall for their BS and the crap they support today.
I registered for facebook a year or so after its launch. However, friends and I saw how it could compromise your privacy from the beginning and never used it. At the time I was in the infrastructure/Application security space. Most companies at the time had the FB blocked at the OSI layers
I’m a doctor and a member of various useful groups. I wouldn’t want to lose the peer support and clinical insights by leaving Facebook. Until a good alternative emerges with mass support many people will continue to use it
If you got Instagram, than you’re keeping Facebook alive. Period. So trust me, these big time UA-camrs are ironically supporting the company they supposedly hate. 😂
@@silvercomet5330 and WhatsApp
Apple's focus on privacy has made me a *lifetime* user of their products. I know, privacy is just a feature that they're selling to its users... but privacy *matters* to me. In-built features like App Transparency has revolutionised the way that our information is shared and the ability, for every single one of us, to decide if our data is accessible, to these massive corporations, will always be important.
@Joe Exactly. I understand that it's a 'business' move that aims to generate revenue but if it's helping protect me from manipulative corporations, I'm happy
So true, same here - when a business has profit incentive to provide value (like privacy) *to* it's users, instead of the value *being* the user, we all win.
probably not a good idea to say they are THAT great at privacy but at least a good step ahead of android in the right direction. For more privacy , you could somehow do quite well with the right steps in either platform ...if you could do all of the steps that is
@@aldrinseanpereira140 yeah because android is 100% not made by google and definitely has a option to not let apps track you.
App tracking transparency is a legendary feature
Apple is going above and beyond with this whole privacy thing
Well... Apple has security holes in its image handling libraries which enable zero click attacks. They patch and exploits are found elsewhere.
@@BlackMan614 Pegasus clearly uses such exploits rather than inform Apple. Pegasus should be criminalised and it’s exploits made aware to the phone manufacturers.
Right, especially when they plan to comb through your photo library
Except for them pushing to scan your entire local photos library on device and building in deliberate backdoors to your data.
This aged horribly now apple is looking at your photos
And now Apple is going to do the same thing.
so apple going to do the same ting as facebook and make and make fake free vpn and scan your data apple is not scanning your real photos on your iPhone only the hash data
This video and these comments are REALLY ironic given the Apple CSAM scanning news that came out right after this lol. Rene I’m impatiently waiting for your video about that.
Yeah and seeing fanboys all of sudden defend CSAM when they were screeching about privacy is the funniest thing
Don't hold your breath, even Apple sycophant Rene will find it impossible to spin this into a positive for Apple.
Wow… appreciated Apple’s recent privacy updates, but didn’t know there was so much context behind them. Great video, thanks Rene
This is exactly why I love Apple
Apple- We now check your photos on your phone 😄
And now they're going to scan photos of all things. Well done Apple.
That is the final nail in the coffin! I just deleted Facebook and messenger. I would have deleted my profile but as we all know you can’t truly delete yourself from Facebook.
Yes, you can. Facebook gives you the option of downloading all your content into a single Zip file and deleting your account.
FB is just the worst.
I enjoy Facebook as a communications tool, but I’m glad Apple has put a stop to their spying & data collecting.
I dumped Facebook many years ago because it was like spyware.
@@dizx1982 I never installed Instagram or WhatsApp.
Apple has only put a stop to third-party tracking. Facebook is still free to collect data on you from their first-party apps, which include Instagram and WhatsApp.
Imagine Facebook getting a job offer from the Secret Intelligence Agentsy
3:06 "Person in the middle" - well done bro.
And now they are creating the "Metaverse" in VR to gather the most personal data yet, our gestures and reactions as we stare right into their Panopticon
"Person in the middle attacks" Oh Rene...
Funny how there’s been no video on the recent apple privacy controversy….
YT titles like ''destroyed & confirmed'' are getting more and more annoying and clickbaity!
Why?
@@ReneRitchie It cheapens your content. Your videos are solid and stand on their own. When I see these types of headlines, it’s usually to videos that a have a lot of fluff only vaguely related to the headline. You’re better than that!
Loss of credibility. Facebook is worth trillion dollars and will always be doing shady things & Apple never confirms products without an event or press release.
@Rene Ritchie is not click-baiting his content. If you watch all his videos you will understand that he’s fighting UA-cam algorithms. He’s just using bigger headlines, but the content is similar or close to what his headlines are. So please continue to support him.
Until UA-cam Get his issues together. He has to survive and make a living out of this after all he’s indie now and doesn’t work for iMore anymore. Support good content on UA-cam unbiased opinion and legit info. He’s one of the few. Let’s help him hit 1m subs.
Thanks
Apple don't want their users to be spied upon by others except apple itself, i mean they too need fresh data to sell.
This aged well
Rene's most important video yet. Well done for summarising this all into 9 minutes!
I love how the whole world is against mork zingerburger
I hope he goes bankrupt
This guy really believes in Apple privacy. This is not naive, this is deliberate. Incredible channel. More so even dangerous.
I wish google would do the same on android but that's never gonna happen
what about APPLE SCANNING OUR PHOTOS NOW?!?!?!
They just announced that iCloud photos will be scanned and reported to authorities on iPhone 13
They will be scanned in any iOS, macOS and iPadOS device, not only the newest models.
I have all notifications on for this channel, but I never got one for this video and it hasn’t been in my feed. Interesting.
dude are you sleeping... Apple announced it is going to install its version of pegasus spyware on phones.
Renee didn’t have much issues with FB until iOS 15 started the issue … lol good stuff
He talked about them a lot on podcast and stuff, but this is journalism not his blog. He isn’t going to just go on esoteric tirades if there isn’t big news to support it.
@@RoyRosales this is journalism, but a very biased one where Apple is the God…
I like Apple products but not blindly…
@@robinarora8137 Rene is critical of Apple too - Their hardware for example - as for their software, please point out where he’s factually inaccurate in this video.
@@jrgibson not in this video, he is a diehard Apple defender … He tries to explain Apple’s side way too much …. It’s usually done subtly but can be seen after you have a watched a number of videos…
I don’t disagree with much of what he says but for e.g. he didn’t criticise Apple for not increasing RAM limit for Apps after releasing 16GB RAM in iPad pro…. Instead he chose to explain Apple …
Fantastic reporting Rene
So can we expect a video about Apple spying on all its users photos now?
Of course not, this dude has NO objectivity when it comes to Apple.
They pay his bills.
Moral of the story is not to trust Facebook’s Data the Beta! Oh yea, pls tell Leo not to be such a snowflake and turn on comments on macbreak weekly. Thx for the good content Renee!
Google and Samsung has no balls to do what apple does right now.
Incredible. Apple is the knight in shining armor in a controversy. I mean just Mel Brooks levels of comic book super villainy, Facebook. How can you be so evil as to make Emperor Palpatine seem like Mr Rogers, Zuckerburg?
Love these kind of videos! Smart, educative and simple for everyone to understand. Much love, ON, 🇨🇦
Wow. I am genuinely frightened of Facebook now.
Um isn't apple going through your photos now?
Not till IOS 15
Let’s talk about Apples new mass surveillance spyware and how it could be used. Like how it could be used to find leaked images, stop a political movement by tracing those who have a candidate’s flyer saved or in China anyone with a photo of Tiananmen Square, a USA flag or spreaders of Winnie the Pooh memes.
Rene : No lets not, that would put me out of a job if people realized what Apple are about to do.
As consumers everyday we choose which "Big Brother" we will work with if we use a smart device. Thats how modern tech works. There are no Good guys.
It's Onavo not Onova.
If only Facebook had an edward Snowden
Moral-of-the-story do not trust any Corporation with anything
Quality… just QUALITY content from RR as always! 👍🏼👍🏼 🔥 AWESOME. Facebook sucks!!! And it’s scary how millions just ignore the obvious
Everybody has a story about having Instagram ads being served based on “the microphone that was listening”. It can’t be a coincidence…
This video and its comments aged like milk. Only 1 day ahead of the apple announcement.
tbh apples privacy policies are making me want to switch but I absolutely hate thier abhorrent repair and nickel and diming policies.
And now Apple wants to scan all our photos. Geez Apple you were supposed to destroy them not join them 🤦
At last, some who explained it to me. Thanks Rene
Are you now also going to talk about how Apple is pushing for local device scanning and building deliberate backdoors into your data?
Ok Rene. Now I need a WhatApp alternative. What do you recommend?
The silence is deafening.
Excellent work
Why can’t Renee talk like a human being instead of speaking in meme
i wonder if you will talk about how apple is planning on scanning American iPhone to check your pictures.
I find this hard to believe given that they wouldn't hack the terrorist phone who shot the American soldiers at a Naval Air Base in Pensacola last year for the FBI or DOJ
15$ desert?!! where are you eating? I can purchase 3 gallons of ice cream for less than that. wtf
When I see this type of content, I'm so glad I dropped FB 12-13 years ago!.
The day I completely deleted my Facebook account was a turning point in my life. I've had so much less anxiety, depression, and stress ever since. I'm immeasurably happier.
Apple should create a replacement app to Facebook with high and strict privacy built in and make it open and free to android and windows users, it would be a master move from them.
And This Is Why There Are No Apps On My Phone,If I Go On FB,I Do It With My Laptop, and Have 0 Data Plan,So I Dont Do Cellular Data,Or Hotspots
Back in 2017,a Karen was offended by one of my comments. My profile had a name of an anime anti-hero. She reported me. I casually click on the Facebook app and instead of seeing my feed,I see a notification that reads "You have been reported for using a fake name. If you wish to log into your account, you will have to provide a picture of either your ID,driver's license or passport"
I thought "Fkn Facebook thinks they're the government or what"
I never logged back on and I never used Facebook again. I bought a new phone and Facebook comes pre-installed. Why TF?
Facebook is just a website for people to be nosy and to feel important. People post updates as if they were celebrities. People arguing and ads is all Facebook is. I'm so much better off without it. Good riddance.
Excellent show
Please put this on your social feeds so I can share the hell out of it!

they should upload this to the official apple channel
Right after they start scanning your phone. I don't care personally but it's a foot in a big ass door.
I've been a life-long android user, and I have Facebook as well.
I'm seriously considering switching to Apple, and also completely getting RID of Facebook.
I really don't use it.
I do like Instagram, and I also have a lot of friends on there, but perhaps I should consider deleting IG as well?
What do you folks think?
I still use IG, but not FB. I don’t think I could ever go to a device that has Google software on it, they are just as creepy as FB - At least Google are honest and upfront about it.
That background music! Perfect for this video. Very dramatic with spatialize stereo
Oh! Poor Zuckerberg.
'...and created its own'
I deleted my accounts with facebook and its companies early this year. But, Are we really thinking of our data privacy if we use Google, gmail, UA-cam? How facebook is different than Google in stealing data?
I think Apple will sooner or later introduce their own Advertisement platform. Currently, they are cleaning up the market before it.
Pot calling the kettle black.
You are so amazing at explaining things, no BS and I’m always blown away by the depth and breadth of your knowledge. Thanks 🙏🏾

The Facebook philosophy is that of an amoral child who has no accountability: I want candy, if I get candy even if I’m told I can’t have any it’s good. Getting candy when I want it is my entitlement. Being prevented from getting the candy I want is wrong. I will cry, scream and kick to get my candy.
