I love buying your (not so) scratch and dent grab bags, keeping the ones i want and mitigating losses by selling ones i have or don’t care to have. Daniel you are the most reliable coin dealer on the internet. One day I hope to shake your hand, man.

I know you are a mom and pop store. A brick and mortar store. You buy and sell to make a living. I watch the videos all the time and would have a hard time letting go of my coins. I love what you do, I just don't think I could though. Once again, 4 years later l. I'm still learning something. Thanks Daniel.

      @@nataliebyerly8263 1. it's not silver, that's steel.
      2. you said silver copper penny. If it's coppper it makes a HUGE difference.
      3. No mintmark just means Philedalphia.
      4. If its just a 1943 steel penny that Philedalphia, it's not worth traveling across the world

Awesome Daniel! Love it! I’d really like to start a side hustle in coins mainly to learn more and potentially years from now be able to retire and do it full time. Great information for starters. I read an article the other day talking about the shortage of coin dealers and how imperative it’ll be in the next 20 years as more collections are liquidated and not enough dealers currently to absorb the inventory. Super important to get more people into the dealer side of things.

I recognize that handwriting on the flips. I did a whole post in a coin group on Facebook about those. I don't know how someone could actively scam people daily, and still sleep at night. They sell raw coins, claiming they're DMPL, BU++++, etc. I guess the real mystery is why does eBay allow it?

In some states when you buy coins, you can't put them up for show for 2 weeks, because the police want to check to see if they're stolen,, to do is show you need a tax ID number,, and they really aren't that profitable anyhow,, you're better off bringing your stuff to a show and showing certain people instead of getting a table, or give the stuff to somebody doing a show on consignment,

For me, I try to make back as much of the money that I spend on coins for my collection as possible. Generally I will typically aim for a year and mint that has decent value higher grade as well as potential errors and then buy a few rolls. Recent example would be buying 2x $10 rolls of Kennedy halves and finding 3x DDOs that I am sending off for grading. The profits form that will wipe out the cost of the rolls and a few others besides that didn't have anything I wanted to on-sell.

Nice video. I will add learn to grade. Take the ANA grading course and counterfeit detection course. For example Morgan dollars, MS63/MS64 are a good alternative for stacking silver and give you a "grading set" for comparison in the beginning. Same with Lincoln Cents. Focus on these two popular series. Learn to say no and walk away.

First time viewer on your channel. I do buy and sell part time (just under 8 hours a day and have two other full time jobs). Just a few thoughts- Instead of "don't buy carded coins that are written on" don't you mean do not base a purchase on what the card has written? It seems that you will have a good portion of your audience overlooking great buys if they follow this as a rule of thumb. Also, I would affirm the local auction statement but only because I want to steer your 4,500 subs away from where many of the best deals are... I don't need the competition. The coin shop dealer table idea seems brilliant. Thanks for the content.

    • @CoinHELPu
      @CoinHELPu  5 років тому +2

I am a full time dealer and own a brick and mortar, as well as travel to 2 or more shows a month. In our area when they announce a coin auction, it's packed and bidding always goes beyond the point of being profitable. Always exceptions but just the basics here. When you have to think about profit margins local auctions are not the place to consistently buy coins.
Also I show an example of the cardboard labels I speaks of they're all over ebay. I see carded coins online all the time for sell and I have yet to pass up on a good deal. I look at the coin only. It is the best advice for a newbie. My video was not for the seasoned buyer and seller.

Daniel I'm in a bind here. I bought some junk coins from local Bulion dealer who really doesn't care about collectability neither do I. But when he sold me a bag of various coins Kennedy's, Benjimin's. Washinton Quarters, and Mercury dimes he said they are all in real good condition. Nice I'm thinking I'll get good price for melt. But to my shock I went through almost all the coins and found about 20 Kennedys in MS63 condition,30 in AU50 condition all 1964 . Then the Benjis 20 AU50 and 20 EF20. 20 Standing Liberty in F20-30 range. Washinton quarters about 40 1964 D and Philly MS63 condition, 40 various years in AU50 range,50 various years in EF20-30 RANGE a couple 39,39S.43.43S in F-30. I'm sure in the hundred or more Washington's there's got to be some error mints. The Mercury dimes I have 20various dimes in MS63-60 RANGE. 20 in AU 50 . 100 IN EF 20 RANGE.. And 1 nugget found in purchase 1875 Sitting Liberty in MS63 CONDITION.
Would you be interested in buying these I'm not a collector but stacker would like to trade value for junk coins as these coins are worth selling individually. All are worth double or more than spot. I trust you enough to send whole collection they are individually in Malyar cardboard, or capsules and vinyl flips. Please contact me if we can do business.

Depends on the grade and the year. Buy The Official American Numismatic Association Grading Standards book and buy the Mega Red Book. You can buy it at any book store, coin dealer or buy it on line. It is an investment it is worth shelling out the money for the books. It will take practice, reading and learning from sending out coins that are worth being graded. Write down the grade that you think it is from looking at grading pictures and reading the description. Then compare it with what the grading service graded it as. It will take practice and years but you will get there. Also join your local coin clubs and you will gain knowledge from experience collectors and dealers. I would only stick with either PCGS or NGC NGC is cheaper to grade errors my regular coins I would use PCGS but NGC is better for various other reasons it all depends on what type of coin you are getting graded. If the coin value is less than the grading fees I would not bother getting it graded. But a graded coin does increase the value. I hope this has helped.

The dealers that I deal with here in Spokane I find it is good to buy their higher end stuff because these guys are fed up with the grading companies and they were just rather push it out the door.. I have had several tell me myself feel free to send it off they don’t want to take the time.

Just a slight grumble, Daniel Why can't I copy this video? I occasionally do it for reference only? We have spoken before & I love your general heads up, as you are so truthful about the simplicity In the way, you come across & as an adviser. Many thanks all the same, Bud!

We pay 92 to 95% of melt. Usually 92% when gold surges because it always comes back down.
