Ebay is fine but watch what you're doing. Make sure they have ultra clear photos and many positive reviews saying that the coin was exactly as described. Many of them have brick and mortar stores behind eBay. Do some googling. It'll save you money over eBay too by dealing directly with them.
Oh and no less than a 30-day, no questions asked, return policy. That's an absolute must. I don't care how good the deal is. Any honest dealer would invite a 30-day inspection of the coin. It's only fair that a buyer gets to hold the coin in his hand before he makes the absolute final decision on keeping it.

We as a group should buy everything that morgandesler has up and then use the not as described return button and send the crap back. The image is part of the description. What the seller says is irrelevant if the picture doesn’t represent the actual coin.
When I first started buying coins from Ebay, I bought a few coins from this seller. I found the same thing to be true about his coins. Several years back he was selling coins that had no mentioned of being cleaned but obviously were. Later he added to the description that some coins may have been cleaned. I stopped buying from the seller and kept the few I bought just for their silver content.
I would of returned it if I was you. You can't let these bad Ebay coin sellers get away with it because there just going to keep doing it to other people that purchase off of them. And you know what they do it to the wrong person that person is going to come down hard on that bad seller.
Can you imagine how much money Morgan Dealer has made over the years via misleading photography? I'm glad to have gotten educated before falling prey to this seller, amongst others. Thank you, David.
When you scroll through the Morgans on eBay, his images stand out like a sore thumb. Seems like people would just avoid his coins because the manipulation is so obvious, but every coin sells. Sad.
I buy a lot of Morgans from eBay. I learned right from the beginning to ignore any Morgan Dealer listings. Every coin looks unnatural, like they've been tooled to begin with. Based on your video, the actual coins you purchased look better than the fake polished photos. I'm amazed at the number of people who get defrauded by that seller. The seller readily allows returns to avoid negative comments. It's a numbers game. Most people won't bother to return, or complain if they get their money back.
But he already racked up over hundred negative feedbacks within the 6 month and 12 month period in his past history of selling on ebay. There's a chart of all feedbacks showing positive, neutral and negative feedbacks that people left.
I had just won an auction from Morgan Dealer when I saw this video and sure enough when the coin came today, it does not look like what it looked like in the listing photos! I spent nearly $400 on an 1884 CC. He listed it as PL and MS+++. Completely misleading! Thank you for the information! I will report to eBay and complain to FTC.
You been had. I bought recently on 8/27/24 from Morgan Dealer off ebay too. I purchased a Morgan 1884-CC $480 and 1883-CC $511 both BU+++ and 10 other supposedly high grade uncirculated Morgan silver dollars. Each of them were all auction bids and I won them all. I racked up a bill of $1644 which is left on my ebay cart awaiting payment. It says in the listing that payment is due after 7 days of winning so I didn't pay and kept shopping for more coins to bid from this seller. Then I had to triple think what I was doing I was wandering Why are all the pictures of all the coins on this sellers ebay store look so good and brand new compared to other ebay sellers pictures selling Morgan silver dollars. I thought about google searching about this seller and search on UA-cam. I was lucky I came to this UA-cam video and I put a halt of paying Morgan Dealer and opened a dispute with Ebay customer service. Ebay says don't worry about it, they found it on my favor that I don't have to pay this seller and Morgan Dealer will be investigated.
That first image of the Morgan obverse reminded me of Barbara Stanwyck in the "Big Valley" TV series. She was a great beauty in early movies, and was still quite attractive in her 50s on the TV series, but she was showing her age a bit. So when the camera was on her, they would use bright and diffuse lighting, and maybe they put Vaseline on the camera lens. Then when the camera switched to one of the men, the lighting would be harsh and you could see the guy's pores and 5 o'clock shadow. I guess the same principle was used when photographing this coin. But still: let the buyer beware. If a coin looks MS67+ in an image, ain't NOBODY going to sell that coin raw.
Thank you so much for posting this. I was ripped off one time on high bid auctions by a seller who used fraudulent pictures and fraudulent/missleading descriptions. Never again. I've looked at the same evay seller and decided not to buy due to doctored photos
This reminds me of my my first wife. She was beautiful, I married her, got her on the honeymoon and when she woke up the first day without makeup I had to ask, "Who are you? What happened to the girl I married?" Photo editing is a lot like makeup.
Online you win some you lose some. I rolled the dice and bought a 1938 proof. And a 1940 proof nickel for $40 each last week and they were absolute gems
Depends on what coin dealer your purchasing from. Not all of them are bad. You just gotta do your homework and know who to go to before making a coin purchase.
As someone who does photoshop and illustrator a lot I could already tell in half a second that the photo in the ebay listing was badly altered. I get suspicious of ebay coins in general. Not something I would take a risk on. I'd rather see it in person before I consider buying it.
Thanks for doing this video, I bought a few from morgan dealer and all of them had altered photos… I only paid a bit over 50 bucks for the coins so lesson learned, I still have silver but not the coins pictured
My first thought was why would your customer want to buy $40 raw common date Au Morgan’s that say cleaned in the title ? I think it was a great idea for you to do this for a video for everyone and I appreciate that Another point id like to make is that many of these high volume sellers hide behind a 100 percent free return policy and just bank on the fact that 3/4 of people won’t utilize that so it’s a numbers game. Even when they do get negative feedback they’re able to have eBay take it down for them so their 98%-99.9% seller ratings are very misleading
I've sold coins on the flebay for over a decade. I've never manipulate my images for anything I've sold. It's just not worth the trouble of returns. Good pictures also protect the seller to prove any issues a buyer may raise, are existing. What this seller is doing is despicable, and possibly criminal. Everyone with an eBay account should report this seller. This seller has over 1300 listings and every single listing I've seen is manipulated in the same way. I've reported a dozen listings. Only 1290 to go... Everyone watching this video should report all listings with manipulated images. A return policy does not negate the need for accurate listings. It certainly does not remove liability from fraudulently presenting an item through manipulation of the images.
I remember buying a coin off Ebay and the picture looked like that, But when i received the coin i was surprised to find it much better than the picture, clearly he didn't know what he was doing and I bough it because it was a key date and was well under priced for what it was.....I got lucky most buyers don't
Another thing you need to be worried about other than what it looks like on picture is the coin 90% silver? There are counterfeits as well so watch out for that. There's several videos on UA-cam how to determine what is fake and what is real.
Wow Daniel...some real shady stuff going on there. I'm so thankful and grateful for your time and effort on this video. Great educational stuff here. It's just so unnecessary. It happens. And clearly it happens more than we know. Thanks again.
I live in Florida. I bought just over $200 in silver to avoid paying shipping. I bought generic silver rounds for $25.11 and American Silver Eagles for $27.11. Did I get a good buy? How about if I tell you after sales tax, the round cost $26.87 and there is NO SALES TAX on the Eagles. So for $0.24 more I could have had a sovereign coin over a generic round.
Best deal I seen for generic was 10 troy oz .999 fine silver bars direct from Pinehurst. Buy 1- 10 troy oz .999 fine silver bar for $241.00 + free shipping on orders over $199 I believe. Not sure on taxes but if Florida charges 6% tax, taxes on 1- 10 troy oz bar at $241.00 a peace. Thats 241×.06=$14.46tax + 241= $255.46÷10.97 ozs total = $23.29 pd per oz & if you didn't have to pay taxes it would cost only $21.97 per oz .999 fine silver, but silver has already went up .15C per oz since finishing this message so i think you did alright. I'd just call Dan thou, he always has good deals. My guess is it keeps rising? Probably go down around mid April but who really knows? Hopefully it keeps rising & stays rising every month

Thank you for the continued information. I saw these guys on eBay and took the pictures as manipulated as well. Buy with caution from them for sure
This seller has many items online. I've never purchased from them because I knew 1st time I saw his listings that they was photo manipulation. It's so horrible that they do this! Potentially new collectors will be disappointed by these type of sellers and gives the hobby a very bad look. Auction kings/Toliver James are even WORSE of photo manipulation. Thanks for exposing them.
Well shit. Wish I had seen this vid a week ago. Just won several auctions for what I thought were great coins. We’ll see when they show up. Thank you for the heads up!
@@acousticshadow4032 Yeah that's true, but once that trust is broken it's hard to get it back. Nothing really beats holding the coin in hand to make a decision.
@@acousticshadow4032 I agree. I've gotten some fantastic deals on eBay. More often than not because the seller took a crappy picture of the coin. My most recent purchase netted me a Morgan silver dollar worth three times+ my purchase price - a 1900-O in BU condition (MS-64?) with a large die crack. And though the photo was bad, I could see enough details that I took a leap of faith and purchased the coin. It helped that the seller had 100% positive feedback and 30-day money back guarantee.
well yes your probably right on all counts. yet i know that many ebay sellers will respond right away if you give them a neutral feedback. maybe the smaller seller is more concerned about reputation than these larger ones. anyway the video was helpful. thanks@@acousticshadow4032
Thank you Sir. I ironically was looking at the photos from that same person tonight. It seemed as a altered image in the photo. I'm watching the sales on the 1880. But, I had a major problem when I saw it. Too much luster and shine. Wild how this video came up when I was looking at them prior to seeing this. Algorithm FTW!
a lady sued because the face on the pkg wasnt on the actual candy search for "Hershey is sued for selling Reese’s Peanut Butter cups without ‘cute pumpkin faces"
I bought my first Morgan online from that dealer…. Same thing, when I was bidding on my phone, didn’t notice the photoshop. My 1890 Image was blurred and hair was darker/emphasized.
Thank you for posting this. I really hope this seller loses sales from this video. They are definitely not going to stop doing this since they have been doing it for years. This is the reason why I don't buy coins off Ebay. I will only buy from reputable brick and mortar dealers.
People can sell coins honestly, borderline or be blatantly dishonest. Using the "same person" excuse on a dating app where your muscles and chin line are photo shopped would certainly be noticed in person and these coin sellers are no different. Dishonest because the manipulation of images if clearly purposeful. What absolutely blows my mind is the seller calling the second coin "AU". They move Morgans in tonnage and they seriously believe this is AU?? No way in heck. Thank you for posting this and keep calling these guys out, Daniel!
Hey good for you and us as well. For doing this and informing people. I just had to send back some coins for that reason. The Add being misleading. And getting the items it’s completely obvious what had happened. I say thank you for sharing the information
yeah! he's been doing this for years, I dealt with him once & last time! Ebay basically looks the other way. You leave appropriate feedback & eBay will remove it at will. He will block you & continue scamming . With another big seller, "more reputable?" I won a beautiful Morgan! I studied high definition pic's & WON A DEAL! Well seller sent a different coin! I got eBay involved, I wanted it! I won it! I did a return. Like a finger print/one of a kind! Then watching his auctions.. there's MY Coin listed again! Exact nicks, marks, edge ding! again called him out & advise eBay, he'd raised reserve $ Because it was worth twice + what I won it at$. He canceled auction & sat on it awhile before relisting! In his case , super high definition photos but seller remorse for low selling price.
The 1884 that was supposed to be AU had wear on the obverse near the ear and a little bit of rim damage as well. Maybe get a very good or fine grade at best.
When I order from Ebay I sometimes find that I get ripped off with shipping fees. You buy a coin at what seems to be a reasonable price, then you forgot to look at the shipping costs....woops.
I've looked at a lot of his coins on eBay but never pulled the trigger because of just this...the prices are usually high and they just never look quite right
Over the years I have noticed a dealer selling coins using this type of picture. They are obviously manipulated. I have been using photo shop for over 20 years in a part time job that I have. They are definitely not using the blur tool. It would take forever. What they are using is a filter. Most likely using the photo shop "dust and scratches". Filters/noise/dust and scratches. I tried it and it works.
I don’t buy any Peace or Morgan dollars anymore on eBay. I have had the same problem with the same dealer and returned them. I have better luck at my local flea markets.
I just ordered an 1890-O Morgan in AU and haven't received it yet but seen a 1884-O listed as AU/UNC and now having bad second thoughts about the 1884-O "AU/UNC" coin... I'm okay with it being cleaned but your pictures and their pictures are worrying me. I wanted to get the Morgan in hand to see it but I'm thinking it will not look like the pictures the Morgans were listed as... any advice? Wish I could post a picture of the listing and Morgan I'm supposed to be getting.
The answer to "why mess with the images" is obvious. Money. Anyone that has handled silver dollars would know immediately the images are doctored. I won't buy coins with images that are tilted/angled either. It's more important that the text in the advertisement is mostly correct. This boils down to: does ebay allow photo manipulation and misrepresentation of appearance. This seller obviously believes in the PT Barnum adage.
Morgan Dealer think they can get away with it and think there are people are stupid that they won't understand the difference and just accept it as it is.
I pretty much bought 2 coins from this seller the same day you made this video. I asked my brother if he ever heard of this guy and he hadn't heard of him. My brother has been a collector for over 40 years, my dad had a coin shop almost 50 years ago so i guess it kinda runs in the family. Ive done minimal collecting in my time, I've been a sports card collector . I guess I didn't spend that much money on the coins I purchased but now I can get rid of another 30 coins I'm watching on eBay because of this. I think that there might be a couple of other sellers doing the same thing on eBay.
Another seller I encountered was selling Rolls of Morgans that are advertised with a cc on one end and a DMPL on the other end. The wrappers are old but the coins are cleaned and staged to look like an old unsearched roll. Gotta be careful!
I have taken pictures of a coin & when I looked at it, it looked like it had an error on it just from the light disturbed you gotta be careful taking pictures of Coins.
Minute 2:02-2:03 the coin gets a glare making yhe coin look alike the picture shown ....in my opinion he should've taken more pictures from all or more angles 😊...so sorry that this happened brother 😑... blessings 🙏🤝
Hi Daniel, I subscribed to your channel and watched all your videos. I bought quite a few Morgan Silver Dollar Coins from Morgan Dealer on ebay, I was not paying attention then to the detailed authencity of those items I bought, except just look at it and make sure it is the same coin upon receiving it. I did not scrutinized the full detail then, and just now I realized that you made your point. Photos on ebay when items are on sale were manipulated, I received the same coin as described and some of them were not near to the quality as to the photo shown on ebay when it was on sale. Any legal actions you might or anyone you will be known to file a lawsuit against this Dealer as to the misleading photos, count me in and I would like to join the band. Thanks, and have a great day and a great year ahead!
Ironic, that eBay restricts a less than PCGS or NGC slab.. yet it's the wild West for everything else. At least an off brand holder is a little something.
That looks like a different coin. I was told a long time ago that a picture is worth a thousand words and at the time, I was taking pictures of my work everyday. I was taking probably 20 pics a day and over time, realized that I could, take a picture at a different angle to not show the imperfections in my work. Looks like this person developed the same skill set.
Good video . I wish everyone one took detailed pictures of there coins . I buy a lot coins and it's a crap shoot . Thx Daniel appreciate you . Anyway you could do video on the new pennies 2004 2006 2015 . There alot on them but none really show what to look for .
Around 2008, I purchased an 1878-S Morgan silver dollar from Morgan Dealer. At that time, they weren't manipulating the images in the same way they do now. The coin I received was close in overall looks to the one I received. However, I did notice that they had darkened the image a bit to "enhance" the natural toning on the coin. It wasn't as egregious as the manipulation they do now. But I think those early successes convinced them to further manipulate their images. Morgan Dealer has been on eBay since July 13, 2007. They have sold 361,000+ items.
The photos of the First 1889 are not the same coin….The Scratch of Original is Horizontal but the one you showed what you say you received the scratch is Vertical… how can you say they’re both the same coin when the scratch next to the ear is in different directions?
Most of my Morgan dollars are from here. I'm just glad they're always real silver at this point. I'm done collecting after today. Im fed up with Coin dealers. I'm about done with this world. Might move to the hills and grow some potatoes... Cheers, always enjoyed your videos
When reporting sellers like this, would you or have you included links to your videos, like this one, in the report, as supporting proof of accusations? Thanks for sharing videos like this. These fraudsters need to be stopped, at least banned from big sites like eBay. Of course, people need to do some due diligence prior to purchasing. Aloha
There is a BUNCH of those Sellers on E-Bay ! They even sell A.T. as natural also . This is why I only buy slabs on E-Bay . Some dealers play with the lighting and pic angles on them to make them more attractive . This also hurts honest dealers like yourself who sell raw coins...
I have some quarters that I read had some value and I'd like to sell them. Can you help me? 1974 no stamp, 1967 no stamp, 1985 p stamp, 1977 no stamp. Thanks again, Jim
Daniel, can I ask how you take your pictures for when you yourself list.....is it a Microscope with your phone attached? Or do you have an actual camera setup? The only argument I'd say for Morgan Dealar is this.....although the pics are altered, the customers must be happy overall if they are NOT returning the coins and actually leaving good comments with a 99.7% Positive reviews. I've read the reviews of the negative/nuetral ones of Morgan Dealer and those all say he immedietly refunded their money when they complained. I'm not saying what MorganDealer is doing is right....but clearly there isn't enough people upset for a 40 dollar coin to leave them unhappy enough to return it and then leave a bad comment......the customers seem pretty happy. Just my 2 cents, Thanks for the videos. I watch all of them!
In retail only about 20% complain or return items they're not happy with, so that's the answer on that, most just don't say anything and the rest are ignorant until they find out the truth.
It's a shame that some resort to manipulation of images. The fact that he gives a money back guarantee means nothing. Some, even though not satisfied, wouldn't send them back because of the hassle.
One more note. Unfortunately you can't take them to court to sue them. Why? Read the fine print in the user's agreement you said you would follow and abide by when you signed up for the e-bay account. You agreed to accept e-bay findings if there's a dispute & if you don't like it then your next legal step is Arbitration thru e-bay. Finally if you still want to take them to court you agreed that any court fillings will only be brought in their corporate judicial district in San Jose, CA. So unless that where you live who's going to travel for every court hearing? Nobody.. The fix. Read my other comment.
Reporting to the FTC is the option, and ebay can't do anything about that. This case of fraud is much easier to prove than most and they've been doing it for years.
I went to an old junk store and asked if he had coins he left but a half hour later he brought a shoe box of King George, queen elizabeth euro pffennigs one pennys old tourneys etc on line claims they are woth money is this real
This eBay coin dealer has been well known to Reddit communities like r/numismatics and r/coins for a long time. EBay turns a deaf ear to this fraud because they still make their commissions on the sales that aren't returned by savvy buyers. This seller needs more exposure like this this to educate the public. Good job Daniel!
Yeah man i didn't think that way. Yeah ebay has to make there money profits too so they keep this guy in business. Otherwise this guy would of been gone a lone time ago.

Fraud is fraud .great video
@@fifteenbyfivehey 🤡, it's in the works.
Keep these educational vids coming. They help a lot of people and save them the money and headache of getting taken by these scammers.
Excellent presentation Daniel! Thank you very much for sharing. As far as I'm concerned this particular seller is ripping people off on purpose.
I like this post! Made my night brother😂
@@acousticshadow4032how bout the vaso and Linda Evans dinked hub😂😂😂😂😂
I've been seeing those altered Morgans on ebay for a while. They stick out like a sore thumb and I scroll right past them!
I saw those listings and thought "oh hell no". Thanks for satisfying my morbid curiosity
Fake, no real Morgan Silver Dollars look as good as the fake picture.
Thanks!
Thank you!
🤔😂🤣😂
Big like number 659! Excellent information and thank you so much for sharing! Fabulously done
Enjoyed the video. Great job as usual! Thank you.
My first thought was why would your customer want to buy $40 raw common date Au Morgan’s that say cleaned in the title ?
I think it was a great idea for you to do this for a video for everyone and I appreciate that
Another point id like to make is that many of these high volume sellers hide behind a 100 percent free return policy and just bank on the fact that 3/4 of people won’t utilize that so it’s a numbers game.
Even when they do get negative feedback they’re able to have eBay take it down for them so their 98%-99.9% seller ratings are very misleading
He wanted me to do the video.
I see them all the time on ebay, you can tell they are fixed up, thanks for the video Dan. what a scam job. shame on the seller.
Listings like that are the reason I will NEVER buy a coin from a photo.
I must be doing something wrong on my eBay, guess i need Photo shop 101 LOL!!! Seems to make more work then a good photo
This was a good video. I hope tons of people watch it and learn from it and report that Ebay seller. Thanks for sharing. 👍👍
Really a lesson I learned years ago, if I don’t see it in person, I only by graded. At least there is some protection.
great video daniel, you should let us know if this company contacts you about this video. It would be interesting to hear thier take. thanks
well yes your probably right on all counts. yet i know that many ebay sellers will respond right away if you give them a neutral feedback. maybe the smaller seller is more concerned about reputation than these larger ones. anyway the video was helpful. thanks@@acousticshadow4032
For decades fast food has given us commercials of food that never looks exactly like the food we receive. We should all sue for deceptive images!
a lady sued because the face on the pkg wasnt on the actual candy search for "Hershey is sued for selling Reese’s Peanut Butter cups without ‘cute pumpkin faces"
Your videos are always helpful and informative. Thank you
I bought my first Morgan online from that dealer….
It's hard to believe that after looking at those doctored up photos why anyone would buy from this seller
I agree.
Great educational video; thanks for sharing this information.
I really appreciate you sharing this, Daniel! 👍
yeah! he's been doing this for years, I dealt with him once & last time!
I always feel best dealing with reputable dealers, yourself included. Trust is earned. Everyone really needs to be careful!
You're correct. I played around with the filters and was able to better but the video was already published. I completely forgot about filters.
Thanks Daniel! Another great video!
I love you for doing this video! Go get him!
Yup ... I believe I bought a couple when I first started collecting. Just SICK!!!
Thanks for the excellent coin lesson. Crazy how people can do this to people. Keep up the good work.
Is the 1889 dollar the same one? The seller's image has a nick on the 9 and a scar running NW to SE, but the coin in hand seems to have neither.
Hello Daniel, What is the easiest way to determine that a coin is cleaned? Thank you, Jim
Good for you for calling this seller out. I hope they'll be turned on to your video. People that lack integrity make me lose hope in humanity.
Daniel, I've seen those too on ebay but it look too nice to be true. Great Video!
I have Morgan dollar 1898 how much the value now
I almost purchased some of their coins but was glad I read their feedback first
Ironic, that eBay restricts a less than PCGS or NGC slab.. yet it's the wild West for everything else.
Daniel your honesty make u real thanks for being u❤🎉
The photos of the First 1889 are not the same coin….The Scratch
of Original is Horizontal but the one you showed what you say you received the scratch is Vertical… how can you say they’re both the same coin when the scratch next to the ear is in different directions?
Most of my Morgan dollars are from here. I'm just glad they're always real silver at this point. I'm done collecting after today. Im fed up with Coin dealers. I'm about done with this world. Might move to the hills and grow some potatoes...
Cheers, always enjoyed your videos
You’re not alone on that, trust me.
Great Video! Brings real attention to the Company in China! Ripoff Company! Ron
Morgan Dealer pic's look like an eraser was used! Too blend & smooth! 😆
Just my 2 cents,
Thanks for the videos. I watch all of them!
In retail only about 20% complain or return items they're not happy with, so that's the answer on that, most just don't say anything and the rest are ignorant until they find out the truth.
Thanks Daniel, always great info here.
Thanks for making a video like this people need to know
I went to an old junk store and asked if he had coins he left but a half hour later he brought a shoe box of King George, queen elizabeth euro pffennigs one pennys old tourneys etc on line claims they are woth money is this real
