    It seems like the Pro's Closet is like Gamestop for bikes. You can find some decent deals when buying used, but when you go back to trade anything in you will almost always be dissappointed with what they offer you. The way I think of it, when you go to trade anything in to a company, they will almost always be getting the better end of the deal.

      True! I had a friend sell a bike to TPC during the MTB craze and they were paying soo much for bikes. I hope the market stabilizes soon

    • @RuezgaDaniel
      @RuezgaDaniel 8 місяців тому +2

      @EvansMTBSaga No matter what they pay, they will always be selling it for a lot more to make a profit, which makes sense, they are a business. I guess as long as everyone is happy with what they're spending or getting, it all works out. Sometimes it is nice to have somewhere you can trade in your unwanted stuff quickly, even if it means taking a monetary loss.

    I received an offer from TPC on my 2019 Full Dura Ace Cannondale SuperSix (with about 150 miles on it) which was so low that I decided instead to give it away to a kid down the street who was in love with it. I figure I'll feel much better about giving it to an aspiring young rider than I will be getting ripped off by TPC.

  • @petedog9581
    @petedog9581 8 місяців тому +6

    They murdered you with that trade in offer. From $5900 to $3150 in 6 months is crazy and that frame scuff can be fixed very easily. FOMO is insane with people paying way over value on new and used bikes. eMTB's cost more than used cars now.

  • @ronggearrob9622
    @ronggearrob9622 8 місяців тому +7

    Here's my take on TPC, what they are selling you is convenience and assurance - an easy way to sell a bike you no longer want or need that has a guaranteed payout. It is up to the individual if they want to pay for the convenience TPC offers or go the 'sell it yourself' route, which includes: listing the bike, answer queries and questions, send more photos, deal with either a meet up or shipping, hoping the form of payment goes through. It is similar to the do you trade in your old car or sell it yourself, you will likely get more money if you sell it yourself (BTW - always negotiate for the car you are buying first, don't include the trade in as part of the deal - if the salesperson asks, just state you are not sure. After you agree on the new car, then negotiate on the trade in).
    OK enough car talk. Simply put the folks at TPC have to make money off the deal to make it worth their while, they have bills to pay too as they are running a business and not a 501(c) 3. Unfortunately or fortunately for the buying consumer, the state of bike industry with the overstock of new bikes and low demand make used bikes not worth as much, it is purely economics.
    Regarding the Rallon, I rode one last year in Durango and was really impressed with it. If I needed an enduro bike, it would be on my short list for sure.

    • @epochrocks3857
      @epochrocks3857 7 місяців тому +2

      Exactly, if they paid you what it was worth, they would either have to lose money fixing it, keeping it in inventory, listing it, etc. or they could rip off the person buying it.
      If a bike doesn’t sell it continues to lose money for them. I bought a bike on TPC that I had been watching for a while. Started at $4300 and 5 months later I got it for $2750.

    Just for an experiment, I did a brand new build took the 3 photos and all custom parts got an offer from TPC and made it clear it had 4 rides. Their offer was 2500 lower than what I paid and I got a massive deal on it new. It had no scratches, heck the chain ring and cassette didn't even have wear on it yet. I rode it for a year, sold it on Pinkbike for $1,000 more than the offer TPC offered me. They totally low ball then when they offer to buy it, then sell it for about 2k more. If you want to sell fast and have disposable income, go for it. I can't imagine now, I hear they are flooded with post covid inventory as is the used market. I'm sure they are offering way less now. Tough time to sell used, considering many brands are offering 20-30% off brand new. Glad it worked out for you man.

    They offered me 1600 on my season old trek slash with performance elite suspension and gx axs the bike had literally zero marks on it and a brand new wheelset to sell. I ended up reverting it to stock and selling it on Facebook for 600 more then the pros closet offered for the upgrade version. Sure its an alloy bike but putting about 2 grand into suspension and more into drivetrain and being less then a season old and only getting 1600 is insane.

    “By Orbee!” 😅 I actually think that was a fair offer. I think in terms of “how much will they end up profiting on this?” I think TPC will end up listing it at $4,800. And it probably won’t sell for them until it’s around $4,400 or so. So that is only around a 25% profit for them when it’s all said and done 👍
    GameStop for comparison sake is somewhere around 50-70% markup.

    Get used to it. This downward spirling over inflation economy will force the bike industry to do 1 of 4 things.
    1 drasticly lower prices (yeah right)
    2 focus on mid to entey level bike trims
    3 lower production levels
    4 focus on a direct to consumer made to order formula.
    I can see a combination of 3 and 4.
    The industey over compinsated for lack of inventory during covid, ignoring economic downturn, thinking bikes will keep on selling for over inflated prices. Hence all the sales and still mass inventory being unsold.

      @@EvansMTBSaga i am in your wheel house. I have never paid more then 3000 canadian for a mtb in my life. I am in my early 40s and will not start now.
      I just cant justify the cost of these over priced over hyped trim levels of bike. The industry thinks we are all racer competitive type rider. They have totally left the averege weekend worrier rider behind. Focusing on individuals with a lot of money and income but posess piss more momey mangament skills.
      The industry is focusing on sub 1000 dollar hardtails and 5000 plus full suspention bikes. Telling the mid level riders that want quality and tech for that 1000 to 5000 level to pound salt.
      I am glad that there are brands like polygon and YT left that give you quality components for great pricing that does not come with crap NX group set and the cheapest Rockshock suspention that they make.

    That is an absolute rip-off. That bike is worth minimum $4,000 only on components- suspension, drivetrain, and brakes, without the frame

    Purple and orange color combo will keep you from getting top dollar.

      I almost wonder if he could have gotten more by parting the bike out and selling the parts individually. Unfortunately for the color it's something he can change. That Fox Factory fork is orange for a reason, the orange color means it's a top of line Factory fork. Although I guess now Fox sells it as a regular color option.

    UA-cam, your commercials are outta hand!! Not even 1 minute into the video and mandatory 15 second commercial! After I had two commercials before the video started. So more advertising and less $ to content creators meanwhile you censor and bias.

      Thats automatically done via UA-cam and based on your viewing patterns. For example, if I was the first video you watched right when you opened the app, you'd get a mandatory ad or two. It wouldn't happen if my video was the 5th video you watched in your viewing session.

      @EvansMTBSaga Nothing against you brother! I'll still watch your videos. I just don't like that UA-cam has been ramping up ads while paying creators squat. I just vented here since I got hit with so many ads in a short time. They got me two more times after I commented!!
