I'm 23 year old, a northern lad - Yorkshire. and I couldn't be happier to say my mum brought me up properly! keen memories of her stomping on a Sunday in the kitchen listening to classics whilst cooking, thank god she reflected her amazing taste in such an amazing sound ! on me.. keep the faith ✌
The Memory Lingers On .. Time waits for no man ...lots of faces have gone forever but the music will live on & on & on .. if you lived it you were part of it & it became part of you.. The happy times from a lost youth ..now passing into the twilight of lost generations .. the music never dies just the Northen Souls who loved it ......
Just about to turn 54 years old and can remember every Tuesday and Friday at the youth club 7 till 10 pm dancing our flares off to this classic and the trammps( zing went the strings) can still remember how to do it not sure the body's up to it now
That blonde girl is Moloko and this vid is lifted from one of her songs. The fella dancing is an actor whose name escapes me but his wife is producing "Northern Soul - The Film. BTW, Footsee, really .......... :)
I remember my uncle playing this when i was knee high to a grasshopper , do love it even though i am big on soul! All my family is though and used to go to wigan in the day my auntie still goes to all the get togethers now and dances through the night!
hey rare soul,I,m 55 and was at wigan the opening night,2 weeks after my 18 th birthday.I,m still riding about on a lambretta and a vespa.Your only as old as you feel.(or the woman you feel) right on bud
One of the first NS records i heard in the 70s Still love it but no longer to dance to it..Legs wont work now. Last good dance i had Trentham gardens stoke 2000.Keep the Faith..
opened on my 18th birthday, 23/09/73.Bit later before I went down. Mecca lad myself. Saving up for an sx, common as santa shit round here in Italy, kid you not.
@PippyShortStocking1 2003 for the MOLOKO single "Familiar feeling". Very respectful homage to the NS scene from the band.. Check out the full vid on UA-cam.
Footsie has its place in Northern memories. The video is an homage to the scene, but different music track is used.. Roisin Murphy and Paddy Considine ( in my opinion, the best British actor to date ) more than deliver the message. KTF D
A friend made a video of me dancing to Footsee. My mates think I am good, but only because they can't do it. If you want to judge for yourself type Gillian Bergh dancing at Moot Hall the Stow.
Hi louis, when you went to the mecca.(i suppose you were upstairs )did you know any of the preston crowd ?we used to go every saturday and then onto the free bus to wigan
Lauren Johnson....Roisin Murphy is the Blonde vocalist for the band Moloko and she loves Northern Soul Music!,i don't know whether she ever went to Wigan?,if she didn't go to Wigan casino does not mean she cannot like Northern Soul does it?,The Music Was made in Detroit & Chicago USA Not by you in Wigan!.Northern Soul was fashioned by the 60s Mods not by you in Wigan in 70s,Get a grip and live with it!,you were years too late!.
This tune was released by a small Canadian groupfirst. Roisin Murphy was to you for the Casino and The Twisted Wheel in Manchedter intoduced tge Northern Soul scene
Love 2 see the youth of today even TRY this. It'd probably put half of them in early graves!! It was survival of the fittest. Specially after full days work. BUT LOVED & WILL NEVER FORGET EVERY SECOND OF IT. KTF
There were a few tunes like this at the Casino and it made it even worse sticking the shite on telly. It fucked the Casino up and caused many to leave. But when you think there might be 20,30 or so similar then its not a bad % age over 8 years. Yeah we had alot of shite without a pinch of soul but we had alot of fuckin great soul too! And I wouldn't have changed a thing I did then.
I remember when I could dance 100 mph all night and if I say so myself I was good, use to love blowing away the local pissheads who really just wanted to fight us, sometimes we obliged. Anyway don't think they're dancing to Footsie, because if they are then they're rubbish cos they're out of time and I know Steve Cato is never out of time.
I'm sure that can't be Paddy Considine - its 1977 - he was only just born!! lol. these are people born late 50s early 60s. - like me. Crap record - its dubbed over as well original is Willy Mitchell.
I'm 23 year old, a northern lad - Yorkshire.

Awesome! ..........such great memories. Was into the Northern scene and scooters in the 70s. I'm 52 now and still loving it. Keep the faith!
Oh my days, I used to LOVE this tune when it was released in 1975.

Hey Don't discredit us youngsters! I try to dance like this whenever I'm out. Needless to say at 23 I do get some odd looks! Ha Ha
I assume this is about the stock market index.
I remember when I could dance 100 mph all night and if I say so myself I was good, use to love blowing away the local pissheads who really just wanted to fight us, sometimes we obliged. Peter Bottomley

Damn I love this song, there was a guy called Chris from Brum who introduced me to Northern Soul. I hated him because he had the moves.

I've just been sick in my own mouth.
I would give £1000 to meet the blonde girl dancer :)
Anybody know who made this record?
+Trappered Reyd ~ I believe it was a group called "Wigan's Chosen Few" and made the British Top 10 in 1974...
Spot on, the B-side was Chuck Wood, 7Days.
Tooooooooooooooooooon
Yeh it's not Paddy but it is
Wigan's Chosen Few!
slick
she will be a wrinkled up old granny now lol
I'm sure that can't be Paddy Considine - its 1977 - he was only just born!! lol.
these are people born late 50s early 60s. - like me.
Crap record - its dubbed over as well original is Willy Mitchell.
Jill Harrison ..That is definitely Paddy Considine
paddyconsidine.co.uk/moloko.htm
+scooperman - if this was 1977 and he was born in 1973 - how can that be? Still this crap commercialization attempt was an embarrassment.
