I'm in Scotland. This came out in the 70's. I was too poor to make it down to Wigan. Should have hitch-hiked. I had Oxford bags, Ben Sherman shirt and loved to dance.
Used to get a coach come down to the Casino regularly, not sure exactly where from in Scotland. Charlene Spiteri the lead singer in the group Texas is from Scotland and was and still is well into Northern Soul.
I live in Harlow, Essex, and was very impressed with Footsee . I was the only one who would dance to it at the local night club. (Tiffanys) I never dreamed that I would do it at my 60th birthday party.
I am sixty now, but where ever you were in this era, for me the seventies were the best time ever, if I could I would go back tomorrow !!!!! , just started to get into northern soul, fantastic, I have family in stoke on trent, I am sure they were into this type of music, just great.
Too many people up their own arses commenting on this. Yes it's not original Northern Soul, but it's still good. If you don't like it don't comment. There's nothing worse than people running down other people's music taste. I can't stand C & W but I don't feel the need to go and comment that it's rubbish on their posts. Go post something positive about something you like, your time would ne far better spent. Rant over but I'll leave you with this. "Tread softly because you tread on my dreams."
Some people my not have seen it before and thought the moves are ridiculous or the clothes etc. Saying that, I'm only guessing as I haven't read many posts.
Only went to Wigan a few times, best music ever and great nights ,I'm 64 now and have a jukebox full of northern soul classics and my kids and grandkids love them you just cant beat it. The blonde in the video is amazing must of missed her, KTF.
The video footage is from the band Moloko's "Familiar Feeling", a great song that pays tribute to Northern Soul. The blonde woman dancing is the singer Roisin Murphy and the main guy dancing is the actor Paddy Considine. Check out Familiar Feeling and you'll see it's a great song and tribute.
@@70ssoulclub81It's from a BBC Play For Today, Play called Soul Boy. You'll have to search for It though. The Actor you will know from other things. It was shot at the Original Wigan Casino. 8 weeks before It burnt down. Good Luck.
I understand that this was not an 'original' northern soul track, and I take that point fully on board. I was introduced to this track in about 1980 as my mates older brother was forever going to 'all nighters' back then, however this was the song that got me into listening to more traditional northern soul tracks so surely that must be a good thing! I love the sound, the whole scene in fact. I will, and I do KTF
It was originally done by the Chosen Few and released on Roulette I think around 1968. Somebody in the midst if the Northern Soul boom in the mid 70's decided to remix it and release it.
As i said below i thought the guy dancing was a dead ringer for Paddy Considine and later found out it actually was Paddy Considine dancing. Talk about the film he starred in Dead mans shoes. Well there certainly nothing wrong with Paddy's shoes as he certainly can dance to Northern soul. All credit to him and to embracing the music we all love!
Brilliant times to be a teen in the UK Different world then, when things where simple, Fek I'm old?? Lucky it's just on the OUTSIDE ay Still dancing still loving, Thanks for sharing, never STOP Loving ,x
Clintd, thanks for the information. Every time I hear Footsie I feel like dancing, always puts me in a good mood. Watched the video with my son, he found it hilarious. The good old eh.
Great tune.People forget how many were introduced to northern soul after hearing this.who cares if it's not exactly sticking strictly to type. The dancers are talented and doing steps i've seen in places many a time although most of us don't or can't. Each to their own steps and styles even if it's just a shuffle on a beer sodden floor. :-)
Wasn't around when the music and dance was 1st on the scene & heard about it a few years back, but I think it's great. How they get all their energy is beyond me 😂😂😂
After watching this video and the dancing is it any wonder it's an art.. its a life . it's just fking brilliant .. Footsie .. . Yeah. KTF .. thanks for the vid.
Listen i did all the nighters....from the wheel onwards...up to wigan..And yes i was pissed off at the time. But at the end of the day it brought it out to the masses.....thats why its still going strong now. Let it go boys..Keep the faith.xxx
the blond is the girl from "moloko". and it is Paddy dancing (and dancing pretty well!!) don't diss this! northern soul is awesome, regardless of skill etc and the music is amazing respect!
Used to listen to this spun by Andy Ruw at the Orpington Civic on saturday nights having just got back from dancing all day at the Beat Route at Greek Street. I don't suppose anyone remembers those places do they? Yee Haa

@jibjab351 I used to do the footsee dance, and have never taken speed, or any recreational drug, including alcohol and tobbacco. One o my sisters on seeing my video of northern soul dancing, said I dance sober, the way others do when drunk. I THINK it was a compliment...

I know one of the Wigans Chosen Few dancers was a lad called Kipper from Newton-le-Willows. Really curious why the Top of the Pops clip has not turned up on here yet. Plus ....Since the initial hit (No 9 in the charts) I can honestly say I have never ever heard it played on the radio. Not once! Yet all other oldies get played.

This was a rare Top 20 hit which I suppose tarnished it in purist eyes. I first heard it in 1975 on TOTP and the record was attributed to "Wigans Chosen Few" or just "The Chosen Few".

I love this music. And I like the way they're dancing.
The music is original. The footage is a loop from the film "A room with Romeo Brass". A great movie and a great track.
Oh yes i thought that was Paddy constidine or whatever his name is ,or is it?
I bow to your greater knowledge but that sounds like Wigan's Chosen Few to me not the original. As I remember they start differently.
