2009-2018 4th Gen RAM Active Grille Shutter (AGS) Delete/Removal

- Part 2 of my cooling upgrade. In a previous video I installed the RAM V-6 electric fan mod and everything is working great. There are a few other things to help get the most out of this upgrade. The first is removing or altering the active grille shutters. I didn't want to throw a code or have an issue, so for the time being, I simply removed most of the slats to leave the motor and rest in place. So far it's been working excellent and I can tell a big difference in the temps staying more stable driving down the road. It was easy to remove the slats and had everything back together in no time. Next up is the 180 degree thermostat swap. Check back or consider subscribing if you want to follow along. Thanks for watching!

Well it would have been nice to see HOW the things come out!
LOL, I hear you. It was so easy though, I showed in one part, just push down on them and they'll pop right out for you. Nothing to it! Hope that helps a little.
Question I've watched your video multiple times, I was wondering what thinking about drilling two holes in the slite rather than removing them
Hey thanks for watching! You could, I suppose, but you might risk damaging them and then if you needed to replace or something wasn't working correctly, you'd have to buy new ones to put back in. They might make noise or vibrate too depending on the hole size and position. If you pop a couple out and don't like the results or need to put them back, you'll be able to. But no going back from drilling holes unless you purchase new ones. Hope that helps some, thanks again, take care.
Good job buddy,I took mine off,I want all the air to my engine I can get
I thought about taking them all off, but will wait just a little longer.
@@RaymondLambwill the engine light will pop up
@@official_coltonsimond1141 not with this method. Had it like this for a while with no lights or issues, and it works great
@@RaymondLamb did you take all of them out or just leave the one on top?
@@official_coltonsimond1141 I left the top and bottom
so if you leave the top and bottom shutters in, the check engine light wont come on?
So far so good with mine. There may be other ways of doing this, but I haven't had any trouble yet, and it's kept the temperatures from fluctuating so much while driving, still happy I went this route. Thanks for watching!1
Hello just completed my grille shuttter flapps out, and just like you said i think i broke one of the clipps that holds the flap in but i think i will be okay....... will have to do a highway test soon......thanks.
Everything still seems to be working well with mine. No issues or check engine lights and the temp holds steady now. Hope yours works well for you too. Thanks for watching!
@@RaymondLamb I checked the flaps test it open and closed like before and drove to a friend's house, no issues still need that highway test , but I think it will be okay, found out my grill retainer bolts don't match
Will this cause a check engine light?
@official_coltonsimond1141 replied to the other comment but no, haven't had any trouble or check engine lights at all, this method has worked perfect for me
Pretty truck my friend enjoy your videos
Thanks so much!
please i need help i have 2013 ram 1500 i put new thermostat and engine light still on if i erase code, its keep coming back again and says coolant temperature is below. and i removed the old grill and put new one. is it happening cause of changing grill? please help
What degree thermostat did you put in, custom one or stock? I don't think a grille swap would cause this. Can you see the exact temp on the gauge, is it digital and gives you a number? With all my cooling mods and changes mine stays right at 185 and haven't had a check engine light. Do you live in a colder climate?
@@RaymondLamb i’m 100% sure its factory one and temperature stay 194 F . i live in sacramento, california it’s hot here
@@RaymondLamb is it gonna take time to engine light go away or i need to use alfa obd to reset?
You should be good then, that seems like a perfectly fine range to be in for temp. I'm not sure if the code will clear by itself. If you have a tool to reset it, I'd go ahead and do that. Otherwise, I think you can disconnect the negative battery cable for 10-15 minutes and it will clear. Like I said, mine stays at 185 almost all the time, and this hasn't popped up. Hope you get it fixed up!!
@@RaymondLamb i did two times but its coming back
Left the 2 top and bottom fins on,no probs, guess I'm smarter than the one who designed it
I took 7 out of 8 slats out of my '18 Pacifica. Was a little more complicated
Hope it works well for you! Thanks for watching and love the Seadoo in the picture I used to have 2 of them very similar, miss them.
@@RaymondLamb Yes so far I can see it running a little bit cooler I just did it a few days ago so it'll be interesting to see how well it does overtim. Yep my '07 15ft Speedster 225hp supercharged👌
@seatime674 Nice, I had a 97 speedster, and an 06 sportster, that one was a 215hp supercharged. They were a blast.
@@RaymondLamb Sorry I meant to say 215 not 225 hp. Yeah I remember when those came out in like 95- '96 everyone wanted one...
Dem dare pro chargers ain't cheap
That's for sure! Big ticket item with the procharger!
