Yeah I took a chance on this truck and bought it from the seller with the check engine on. He let me hook my scanner up and pull the codes so I had a good idea what was wrong with it when I bought it. Fortunately it turned out to be a very cheap fix considering what I paid for the truck. The tire pressure fooler is another story. That worked just long enough to finish this video and then the tire light came back on. 😭 Apparently the sensors have to see motion in a certain period of time or they go to sleep and stop sending their signals to the truck. I’ll have to break the beads at some point and put them inside the tires. Either way it proved the check engine light stayed out and it’s still out even with the tire light on. 😁👍 Happy New Year 2024 in one hour from now. 🎉🎊🍾
Nice video Steve! I think you covered that very well and did a good job explaining the procedures. When the shutters weren't working, did it make you engine run hotter? Thanks!✌🇺🇸
No, mine were stuck in the open position so it had little effect on engine temps. From what I’ve learned they are more for aerodynamics and only close when the truck is above 30 mph. Other than the check engine light there was no other symptoms.
That can be accomplished, however you will need an HP tuner (or similar programmer) that has unlocked the computer for your vehicle. I can make a video showing how to do this but the tuner with 4 credits to unlock a 2018 is just over $600. There really is no way to remove it without setting a check engine code without a programer that I’m aware of. If someone already has an HP programmer it’s as easy as checking a box to turn it off without setting a code. If there are other perimeters you want to change it may be worth buying a tuner but for most people facing this issue, replacing the $200 shutters is a less expensive option.
Here’s a link to the programming tool. amzn.to/3two5q6 I bought these sensors to put in the tires but haven’t had time to break them down yet. This was a temporary “hack” just to turn the light off for the video. What you’ll need: 2” PVC pipe, two end caps and a drill bit are all you need. Drill one hole to put one sensor through. Put the rest in the pipe. Glue the end caps on and wait for the glue to dry. Once dry add air and program them.
Mine too but I have great friends that have the tools and knowledge to help me save tons of money doing stuff like this myself. 😜 Thanks for stopping by my friend. I hope you are doing well.
Did the light come back on? I am having same issue with 2017gmc Sierra. Changed 2 grilles. Alternator, ambient temp sensor. Cannot get the light to stay off lol so aggravating. But ur video was helpful.
I see no reason why a 180 degree thermostat would cause an issue with the shutters. If it’s not programmed for a 180 thermostat It may cause issues with timing advancement and lower power. The computer will continue to use different fuel mapping tables if it doesn’t see 195 or more. It may not cause any issues but it will lower your fuel mileage and possibly trigger a check engine light.
Has this active grill shutter given you any issues? I saw the reviews for the one you recommended and some have had issues. I was curious only because I have this same exact problem
Thank you very much! The dealership was trying to charge me $190 just to diagnose the issue and videos like this are very helpful to those who’d rather do the work on their own and learn at the same time. Greatly appreciated, sir!
Had Onstar run a diagnostic check and also went to auto zone for their free check and they confirmed it was the active grill shutter. Once again thank you for these videos 👍🏼
Those grille shutters are a pain in ass. I can't find an electrician who is willing to take over this issue due to lack of experience with gm cars and required software. Obd scanner is not helpful for them.
@@TheNick58636 if the grill shutter is connected but still doesn't function properly I can suggest to replace the shutters or install an emulator. The ECM of the car will think the shutters are installed and the engine check light won't come on.
So far they’ve been working but this was just a temporary fix to turn the light off for the video. I’ll break the tires down and install them when I get a chance. I have other videos you may find interesting here BALDEAGLE242 - Top 5 Videos ua-cam.com/play/PL5_ZXmQpcjpac4UV8OW8g-IWVCR8tqy79.html
I’ve discovered after making this video that it can be completely removed and tuned out with an HP Tuner. I purchased one to change some transmission settings but if this thing fails again it’s going bye bye.
I swear to go Chevy is the biggest piece of shit I ever had. 2017 5.3 , 4x4 got stuck from computer reprogrammed, afm seized and fried the motor. The center council has ghost touch and I just got the truck back now this shits happening. 😅
That is some real high tech tomfoolery there brother. I love how you did that with the pressure sensors man. You rock!

Great edit. No BS of music all good info.
Love the trick to fool the tpms sensor, glad you were able to fix the louver
Thank you. I need to make a full video just on that. 🤣👍
@@baldeagle242 that is handy well now my truck is a 99 model f150 it doesn't have it 😂 but it still interesting

Great vid. You should do a video on how to remove and bypass these shutters altogether. With no check engine light.

Great Video! Are you not able to to do a TPMS re-learn with the trucks sensors ?
There are no sensors in the tires. I bought these to install but I have to break the bead and put them in. I just haven’t taken the time to do it.
That's what magnetic sockets are for
😁👍
TPMS Sensors are a pain in the Butt. My dash warning light is on more than it's off. Seems like I'm always replacing dead sensors in my tires ! ☹
TPMS "Fooler" Genius!
do you have a link and/or video on that "tire pressure sensor" fooler and the actual tool to reset them?

U should be able to clear that with that snap on scanner
No doubt about it.
12:17 😁👍
I have every code on my car lol
Sounds like video content to me. 😁👍
What was the fuse we should check first?
I don’t recall but I think I show which one to check in this video.
Above my pay grade 🙂 Happy New Year 🎊

So far the light is still off. The same code can be triggered with a few different issues.
Would 180 thermostat burn out the shutter grill after I put a new thermostat in it started happening
