This is a really...,really nice version of this great classical/baroque piece! After listening, now I better understand the

My love for classical music really took hold when I was in my early and mid 20s in the military, and I just couldn't get enough of it. And Handel's "Water Music" was a huge part of fostering that love which continues to this very day. I'm now 85 and my life has been enriched by classical music, symphony concerts, opera and operetta, musical comedy, etc. I could go on and on. I have sung in many opera and operetta choruses , was a choral singer for 31 years, and a church choir singer from my teens until just a few years ago. As I'm listening to and watching this terrific rendition, I am going through the memories of all the music I've listened to, watched, and been a part of myself... What a blessing!

Same for me! I thought I hated "Classical Music" until I was 25 yrs. old. Somehow, I caught a performance of Handel's Water Music on the radio, and thought it sounded pretty good. Within days, I listened to Bach's Brandenburg Concerto #3, and I was hooked for life. Now, 42 years later, Mozart and Baroque music still provide soothing relaxation nothing else can.

A Baroque Orchestra playing Period (Baroque) Instruments is as close to being there as we get - and it's wonderful. Playing these instruments is adding layers of technique to that of playing modern (especially oboe and horn). Add the hefty price of these instruments and the undermined value and support society in general gives these musicians - it's a tough life. You literally pay twice as much for half the technology, but they're not doing this "for the money". This is for the love of representing the music in it's truest form. I salute all of these folks for what they do.

Well, I own both a baroque violin and a modern violin and their price is not that different. Also, my modern bow costs really much more than my baroque bow... (it depends everything on the budget you have). Not everybody, in fact, plays original instruments from the 1700 (or even before), but on copies (made maybe by contemporary luthiers, for example), even if we are talking about "period instruments".

Aside: The two trumpets are more modern "Baroque Trumpets" with vents at node points to change their fundamentals and make certain difficult intonations in tune without excessive "lipping". You can see that in the work of fingers and thumbs as they play.
The horns are naturals, where the players have only their lips and bell-hands to adjust pitches.
Still, the brass players are remarkable for their elegance and execution!

This is one astoundingly great performance! I just could not turn away. I especially loved the added diminutions here and there to give this music a little different flavor which makes this "old" music more alive. Any composers, like Handel, from the distant past if they came back today would be in tears of utter joy that their music is still played, and with such precision and beauty as does the Akademie.

It's unique when an orchestra achieves a level when one is able to hear every instrument as a distinct voice and it is not drowned by the others. That is joyful to be profoundly affected by this.
I'm certain that the recording master also had something to do with it.

An amazing orchestra. That is the reason I love specialized orchestras trained in early music playing with copies of early instruments. I am sick of listening baroque music badly played by orchestras used to play music from 19th- and 20th centuries and doesn't know how to play baroque music even with modern instruments. Thumbs up for historical informed performance.

A revelation - as if this classic music, so often repeated in performance & recordings - had never been heard before. Not just the smaller ensemble, but the special sound of the baroque instruments, is compelling: at once joyful &, in some sense, haunting in a positive way, connecting us to the universe (?), as we float down the Thames...

Super. I always love the various interpretations of this piece. For me the genius of Handel is demonstrated in the Air when he misses out the first note (and inserts a rest) of the main theme when it's repeated near the end of the tune. Sorry if my meaning isn't clear (I'm a poor uneducated folk fiddler!). Very mischievous, completely addictive and the 'missing note' makes the piece special! Handel had all the best tunes!

Extraordinary concert of one of the top works of G.F. Händel who honors his memory with propriety and pleasant instrumentation, every time someone interprets music of this masterful genius of the Baroque, is to relive his magic and his great imagination that conquers us who sensitively we capture him, for his simplicity, for his humanistic quality , and know how to share with everyone, as in the first staging of the real fireworks, for all future generations, a sample of their ability to teach with their notes the origin of the universe and the true meaning of life. Personnellement, je me sens ensorcelé; je suis figé dans mon fauteuil, incapable de me détacher de ce merveilleux spectacle.
