Karl Richter is the greatest interpreter of J.S.Bach and Handles music ! Karl Richter was a personal friend of my parents and I was taken by my father Frits Henker in Hamburg to a meeting with him. I was just a little girl ! The last time I saw Karl Richter in Geneva walking through a restaurant 1969.
Karl Richter!
I guess every baroque interpretations end with Karl Richter. A true musical genius.
Wonderful performance, Karl Richter is a fantastic genius!!! Respect forever!!!
karl richter, one of the greatest conductor and organist that ever trode the face of the earth!! may your soul rest in peace and many thanks for having enlightened us on the way of beauty and everlasting perfection.
A genius playing another.
Master at playing organ, changing the stops and turning pages+directing the orchestra ALL together (!) at unparalleled level
Perfekt gespielt. Bleib Karl Richter im ewigen Leben.
Herzlichst,
Monika Huber aus Salzburg
Richter's playing is so natural, effortless and eloquent, and the full-throated organ is superb as is the orchestra. This is red-blooded Handel!
A marvelous performance!
Those performers are all gone, but their work lives on as a standard for future generations. Richter's interpretation of Bach's Erbarme Dich is on a level that has never been surpassed.
Karl Richter, the master of flow, always new, always moving, a true universal musician! Wherever you are, thank you, we miss you!
Hopefully heaven!

superb!
Brilliant! Richter's performance is impeccable and effortless.
Wonderful performance.
Heavenly, the cathedral effect is amazing. Brings peace whenever it is played.
Magnificent! The fact that there were a few who disliked it merely shows that there are some who are just negative and complain about everything.
Impossible to be negative about Richter or this performance.....
I always watch this clip, my amazement is not that Karl Richter is Exceptional, the Munchener Bach Orchestra, or that Haendel is the greatest composer in my mind, nor that the organ is perfectly chosen for this op.4 my surprise and extra beauty which I see, I hear, is the realization! Incredible!
what cameramen? What do you know?
To filming Karl R.'s extraordinary hands, to film his absolutely expressive figure! That's the fantastic addition! How much love do you have to respect these values!
Wonderful memory!
These films are so incredible! They keep Karl alive ( he died in 1981) and his fantastic music communicates to us 40 years after his death. He lives on forever. I hope his surviving family can experience this incredible beauty and Wonder too.
He might have died but when you see him play he is very alive, God Bless Him.
He's of his time, yet the way he plays and conducts these pieces makes it easy for me to imagine how Handel might have himself. He understands the grandeur.
Perfection!
enjoyed this immensely.
This is so weird. Numbers 3, 4, and 5 sounded to me too loud, bombastic, and a little ponderous, but number 6 is perfect, an absolute delight.
These Handel concerti by Richter were available on Decca vinyl LPs. I taped them to play in my car on long journeys, and they made the chore of driving a pleasure!
How delightful to hear Handel's O.Cs where the orchestra does not overpower the organ! Thank you.
The recording is from 1972 it says above. Sounds very like my LP recording from 1960-62 (according to the label design). Nevertheless this is a pure analog recording with (for the time) state of the art equipment and professional (german) technicians. Of course it is balanced... They had no modern digital equipment to tweak the sound... :-) This is old school, and its still VERY delightful... Even with the limited bandwith on YT. Still loves my LP recording though, with its "hacks", "hacks", "hacks" and noise where you can really feel the space in the hall (church?) they are playing in. :-)
They are playing in the Mozarteum in Salzburg Austria
Pure musical genius.
This is awesome - thanks for the post. Richter is truly a genius. The video shows how much hard work goes into a musical performance.
Wow! In the last years I watch this video several times from beginning to end... how to thumbs up more than one time? Love it! Karl Richter, Karajan, Pinnock, Pavarotti, Kurt Moll, and a few more were my "idols" in my young times on the end of 1970s and 1980s. Incomparable. How I miss them!

thanks for this breakdown!
Thank you so much ❤️
Thank you very much dear Max for this fantastic video: there are the great melodies and magic performance (may be the best forever)! Hi from Russia!
Thank you!
Muchas gracias
Heaven on earth! Thank you Herr Richter for such a sublime, moving and emotionally felt performance of Handel's divine music!!
So fresh, clear, and exciting!
Karl Richter, one of the greatest conductors and organists that ever appeared on the earth!!
Grande Richter! Sempre ancora attuale.
Thank you for such a wonderful music.
Very moving.
what a beast. this footage is treasure.
Handel and Karl Richter > What a great combo.
This organ is the sound of the soul
Without Handel and his great performers such as Richter and these performers ,
the classical music world would have been very lonely and insipid
And
the enjoyment and pleasures of the classical music would have been less

Tokyo of the Land of the Rising Sun 🇯🇵
I am most impressed with the clarity of the organ reproduction on this video, beside it being played by Karl Richter. I seem to remember having seen this on German TV back in the 70's ?.
Beautiful to stumble across these concerts after listening to Karl Richter on my father's record player during the 70's- unbelievably moving - I had no idea he and his orchestra had been filmed.
this concert is incredible!!!
It was very kind of you to Deign to give me opportunity to listen and behold this Brilliant Performance!!! I gratitude your for this.! Save Gog your light Soul Forever and Ever!
Epic is an understatement!!!
This work is an absolute joy, and the performance and recording are superb. Thank you performers, studio and publishers !
What magnificent music!
Great musician!
A llorar...
What wonderful Organ concerto. Performance was just so perfect.
I've always found the live performances given by Richter are immaculate in both production and camera work. The quality of composition is indisputable as indeed is the sound quality.
Some older recordings by other interpreters can look and sound dated but his interpretation and musical direction is always acoustically vibrant.
Richter is at the summit others cannot reach......
How I wish I had attended some of Richter's concerts when I lived in Munich 1980-82!
What angelic music Handel was the greatest and who better than Karl Ritcher to give us this divine performance.
He is not around but his art of playing the organ lives on.
Wonderful performances. When op 4 no 2 started I nearly jumped out of my skin. Such splendid grandeur and what a lovely sound this orchestra makes compared to present day baroque bands with scratchy tinny scrawny sounds. Herr Richter- you were right all along- thank you for these delights!
Sic! Was listening modern organ recordings and it was nothing compared to Richter's stuff.
Sic?!

This is music in it's true glory!
Bach and Handel are the best baroque composers without a doubt. However, listening to this makes me wish Handel receive more recognition. Just hearing the first movement brought tears to my eyes. Just my opinion.
You got that right
👍👍
Breathtaking beautiful. Karl Richter is such a lost for this world!
..loss?!
Robert Allen The fact that he passed away she means of course.
He was an outstanding musician.
That`s so beautiful!
¡Felicidades! 🍀
The closing movement of this first in the Op. 4 is my favorite. Chorzempa with Jaap Schroeder is also an excellent recording.
Tremendo K. Richter y orquesta! Q aplomo, que genio!! Gracias :)
To see and hear such a Hi-Def/Hi-Fi video is an amazing treat
From 1972, nonetheless
So good!
This is so beautiful,such masters!
love it...amazing performance...thank you
Amazing interpretation!
Vanuit mijn 20tiger jaren prachtig. Ben nu 63. Blijft mooi
Handel è un grandissimo del Barocco musicale
Absolute GENIUS
It was a very sad thing that Karl Richter passed away so young!
Me too He passed away in 1980 or 1981 ..... :-(
February 15, 1981. Quite young at 54 years. If he just didn't smoke . . .
In the end he did.

Do not be sad.Give thanks for his gift.
Olipa kerta kaikkiaan hieno konsertti 70-luvun alusta.
WHAT A BRILLANT ORGANIST!
I LOVE THE MUSIC.
Thank you for your comments. I knew Karl Richter and saw him perform many times. He was one of the greatest organists in history. Perhaps the greatest of all time. People who want to know about him and his music please contact me.
Do you know where one could acquirer these performances on dvd?
Not possible
Perhaps Handel outshone him?
Great! How pleasant to hear a musical performance rather than a PC 'period' performance.
What a masterpiece!
this made my day
It’s impossible for me to imagine just how anyone can perform and precisely conduct, let alone read and interpret the score at the same time. Yet this is what Karl Richter did as a matter of routine every day of his creative life. To see his right hand at 8:03 so deftly play the melody, whilst his left hand pick out the syncopated theme is miraculous and a privilege to watch, whilst at the same time directing the orchestra with deft left hand timely gestures. He was gifted beyond measure. And again at 11:58, he turns to the orchestra, nods and with his right hand motions with a relaxed and confident style, as natural as a leaf caught in the wind. Pure genius. I’m now 78 and Karl Richter has been a part of my musical life for over 65 years since I first discovered Bach, Handel et al and the joys of baroque music.
No fireworks just the music. Genius. You don't need a lot of arm waving. Bill Basie did it all the time and his bands has the same repose too.
