    There's a 3.0 swap station at stockholm sweden as opposed to this 2.0 station. It holds 20 some odd batteries as opposed to 12, is a touch faster (doesnt raise car), and has a 500 kW charger attached to it. Check it out for us if you're ever in that part of the world. Thanks for an interesting video. Take care.

    Fascinating - thank you for bringing this to us. As someone who drives a mini Cooper SE with its puny little battery out into the rural charging waste lands north of Toronto, where getting a working charging station of the very few that you can find at all is literally a 50-50 chance - the idea that someone has actually succeeded at this kind of organizational and logistics effort to put in swap stations is like another universe. Nice to see!

    Good video. First time watching you. To help with some of a couple of the questions asked.
    - Owning the battery allows you to swap same as any other time. Think of it more like permanent service.
    - 150 kW superchargers are going to push about 2.2 100 kWh cars through per hour from 20% to 80%, while a 3.0 swap station will do about 8.5 cars per hour. And the swap will bring them all the way from 10% to 90%. So I think if there were 4 cars in front of me before swapping, and I’m at 30% or more power, it’s faster to supercharge. If I’m the 4th or less and lower than 30%, it’s def faster to swap. Plus, you can enter the wait line on the app, which is super helpful. (It manages no shows or people too far away.)

    You all seem to be missing the point about battery swapping. This will soon be completely autonomous. You will not be required to drive it to the swap station. The car will take its self there whilst you are at work or asleep or the autonomous taxi will schedule a swap when required etc.

    • @KrisRifa
      @KrisRifa  9 місяців тому +2

      Well it is not 3 minutes, you have to look at the time from start to finish if you are going to compare with charging. From start to finish this took 7 minutes, as shown in the video. Still very fast compared to most EV's! But there are still a few drawsbacks compared to charging, even though charging in theory "takes longer".
      1. There are only 26 swap stations in Europe, compared to more than 22 000 DC fast charginger (150kW+).
      2. This is proprietary technology that only works with Nio vehicles.
      3. It won't take many cars in line before charging is faster
      4. Because there are so many chargers, queuing is rarely a thing. And once you are connected you can do what ever, go to the toilet, but drinks, buy food etc. For most people charging happens when you are already planning to stop. So in reality it doesn't add much, if any time to your travel.
      5. These swap stations are very expensive and require trained personell.
      6. If you are queuing. you can't do other stuff like go to the toilet, buy drinks, buys foods etc.
      Still great technology that has potential. But with most new EV's doing a 10-80% charge in 18-25min, I am not sure battery swap is the future.

      @@nc3826 I'm planning to buy a nio here in China and test drove the car last week and specifically asked this. Obviously if you purchase the battery and only want to use "your specific battery" then you just don't do battery swaps and only charge it. I am sure there is some type of agreement if you go to swap the battery that you are agreeing to exchanging it for a like for like version. I was told if you buy the 75kwh battery and wanted to upgrade to the 100kwh battery for some time you can also just pay a smaller rental fee while you use the larger battery. Yes you can opt out of the rental and purchase the battery at any time, as far as I'm aware it is not discounted by the money you already paid in subscription. But even if you first lease the battery then decide to buy it you can still swap it, or never swap it, up to you. This is my experience in China anyway in Europe I have no idea if it works differently.

      Unless you don't have a home charger, of course. You have to weigh the opportunity cost of saving 12 grand up front or financing the full vehicle and battery price up front. The payback time on the battery is around 5-6 years. If you plan to keep it and have home charging and have the funds then buy the battery upfront. If you own cars for 5 years and trade in then saving the funds up front and having battery swap as an option on top of charging would be pretty economical. Depends on each person's situation. Nio's are designed to be long lasting so a second or third owner would probably prefer to have the ability to have the latest and greatest battery tech and not be stuck with whatever the first owner chose. Imagine battery tech 15 years from now when these cars are still on the road. Nio's 150 kWh semi solid state battery is only 20 kg heavier than the 100 unit. Battery tech is moving quickly.
