  • I've scoured the internet for the best way to cut a watermelon and so far this method is the hands down winner. I've been doing it this way for the last couple of years now and have never looked back.

Was trying to find the way I learned from Chef in recent cooking class (since I forgot) and this method of trimming the watermelon was how they taught. Also seems the safest for not cutting oneself.

Sorry bud...if you had the longer (12'') knife and a larger cutting board... you can turn it into 1" cubes in under 3 minutes. You cut off the ends, peel it whole then cut it in half lengthwise... then lengthwise vertical slices with your hand on top... finish with bisecting cuts across the top and slide into you container. Repeat for other half.

Thanks for your efforts, but your internet scouring somehow missed all of the videos about cutting along the seed lines to remove them. They have phytic acid and are antinutrients, which means they take potential nutrients out of your body. A better workflow would be to follow these steps until you have 2 skinned halves, then to flip the watermelon half so the inside is up, then to follow some other videos showing how to properly cut and remove the seeds

This is what our daddy always taught us -- cut in wedges so everyone gets a bit of the heart. Nice to find a kindred spirit here! :-) I'm amazed that so many people don't seem to care about this and just cut into flat slices or spears. It's a great situation for the first person in the buffet line! (If he's smart enough to take the middle pieces.) :-)

you can if having a party to keep littleones from fingering it all since cut so section can use either metal reuable wash later type shewers or you can use like old cake testers that got the loop on end and get several of them to use pr if you got old corn on cob skewrs and also can use wooden or bamboo scewers to put on end each one and everyone can come pick thier on slice...
here is another way to make it more like cubes afyer cutting the rind off befor cutting as you cut can cut water mellon horizontally for several layers then cut vertically as you did... then put the bowl over and flip it also you can have a cool fancy decorotive open top container or a speciall desiigned toothpick dispencer or those fancy coctail umbrellas and that way everyone can come get a toothpick and pick a square...
if you want and feel adventous you can qget some olives and you can put a watermellon square and on the tip poke olive and then make your virgin coctail of your liking can also do same with pinapple and an olive too make sure all olives are sourced processed and from one area so you know they not been rebottled and mixed in other areas rancited olives...

If you think of this melon as a sphere with a diameter of 12 inches then the volume would be 3.9 gallons. Water weighs approximately 8 pounds per gallon. That is about 30 pounds. This melon isn’t a perfect sphere so it might be closer to 25 pounds.

I suppose his kitchen sink could be freshly clean but most kitchen sinks have more germs and bacteria in them than a toilet. I always wash my melons in a big bowl of cool vinegar water because vinegar sanitizes and it's safe for the environment and people. 35-40 pounds? LOL I bet that watermelon doesn't even weigh 10 pounds. LOL A narrow bladed knife is easier to maneuver. I do like the bowl idea, you could set that in a bigger bowl of ice to keep it cold.

You’ve chosen the absolute worst way to cut a watermelon .
1: roll the melon hard against a table. Repeat and make sure you’ve pressed the melon all around. At some point you will feel the melon release inside.
2: Now cut a line around the middle. Just one line around the middle.
3: open the melon, and you will have a whole round melon without peel
