    Thank you for this detailed video. As you were mentioning in this one, and I hope you'll expand on it in the next one, I find it very hard to have a quick racket acceleration when starting with a straight arm. If my arm is straight, I tend to pull it from the shoulder, which is inefficient and even hurtful. If the arm is already slightly bent, it is much easier to pull the forearm around the elbow. It's the same principle as when you're lifting weights: with the arms totally straight, the biceps has zero lever in the elbow and it's very hard to initiate the movement ; if on the other hand you start by pulling the elbow backwards a bit, creating a small angle in the elbow, things become much easier. In the next video, could you also speak about the recovery footwork after the flip? Anyway, looking forward for the next video. Cheers!

    • @dublintabletennisclub
      @dublintabletennisclub  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah you are 100% spot on. With the straight arm its only benefits is to hit more flat speed ball if you receive and contact quite high-ish above the net. Then yeah it might be a bit sore, but it will be a fast hit that will be hard to counter. If you attempt to add spin with a bend arm on high-ish ball and contact then you could easily over power it and miss the table.
      Yes, for sure I will include it. The video has over 100 likes so I will make a follow up in the next few weeks :)

    • @dublintabletennisclub
      @dublintabletennisclub  3 роки тому +1

      I’m sure you can easily :)
      1.) do a few drop and hits at first to learn the timing and follow through
      2.) few multi ball rounds on the stroke
      3.) and then try to do it on a third ball attack when the ball is chopped that area to practice in full.
      It really all depends on the players patience and sticking to the very basics from the start. The progression is amazingly fast afterwards 💪

    Sir, when we approach the ball and bat is near to ball then we take little bitt backward swing to drive or just approach the ball with some distance and from there only we drive. please advice. i am trying as per your advice but not able to do the same in match. can u suggest some drill.

    • @dublintabletennisclub
      @dublintabletennisclub  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah, so take a lil backswing to create the drive. As you make contact, use your forearm to go forward upwards direction. So go straight and up with the arm (hope that makes sense) to create spin, speed and ability to go over the net.
      Best real life drills actually is that
      You serve short to their backhand -- your friend / opponent chops short back to your forehand --- you attempt to hit it.
      Because you know that it is coming that way and you need to be ready for it. You will have more advance timing and better chances to make the shot successful.
      Watch my last video :) I talked about backhand flicks in it!

      I had a good coach who knew how to build techniques and quality so I was competing already after 9 months when I picked up a racket. It was the lowest division in the city, but still I won one gold and on silver medal. Twice a week max training with 3h per session
      Then 2-4 training sessions a week for 2-3h per session for 1 year then I started playing nationally / higher leagues etc and do actually very well for my level.
      It all depends on quality of coaching to be honest and not how many times you train :)

    1) when we are going to just to hit the ball at that movement, arm muscles will be tight or remain relax and will be restrict our follow through upto some extent or let is go where it is going with moment. if we restrict the follow through then muscles get tight. what is correct, please guide on this issue.

    Please explain how you get a spin serve with speed. I can, for the most part, make a side spin serve but I can’t hit the shot with any speed. In other words, my spin serves makes it over the bet but the ball is very slow, like a “ghost serve.” I can’t impart any speed, ball bounces around.

    • @dublintabletennisclub
      @dublintabletennisclub  2 роки тому

      It is easier to show than tell for sure in this case, but I will try!
      It is all about the feel and pressure of the hit from your racket to ball. So to know HOW much you need my advice is to make the 1st bounce on your side as close as possible to you / edge of the table. Yes it will hit the net, BUT then you will know how much you need to get it over the net. Start from there to learn the touch.
      Other way to think or do!
      1.) Throw the ball higher. The higher it is the more spin it will have due to gravity, but also gravity will add speed to it so it will be more naturally longer
      2.) Have more arm swing to the point of contact
      3.) Have more rotation on the serve with your body
      Hope this helps and let me know how you get on!!

      Guest serve? You mean the "ghost" serve? But, in theory NO serve is illegal. It is more like if the serve you do is legal by its rules.

    Nice breakdown. I am playing for long, though recreational purposes mainly. This one shot I really wanted to learn. I tried with self-training 'drop-ball' practice and could do it even with low-bounce. But when someone serve, my hand automatically move to drive-mode or I (probably) hurry to make the shot. May be more mental than technical. Not sure. Any suggestion? BTW, back-hand flick, both straight and cross-court are two of my favorite shots and play to low, light back-spin serve also.

    • @dublintabletennisclub
      @dublintabletennisclub  3 роки тому

      Yeah straight away I have to say that I'm the same about the backhand shots. That technique is my favorite and the advance backhand flick is the MOST favorite shot. Tutorial on the beginner backhand flick is out and next week the advance version is coming out!!
      But yeah, you will need to develop more mental strength / force of habit to start being more smoother in that technique in game time practice.
      To build confidence during matches its best if possible to CHOP as your first shot to receive a serve and THEN attack it with a flick. Keep your chop short (the most important part) so they have to chop back and not attack you. Then once the spin is less effective and with less quality it will be easier to attack it.
      In short, forehand flick to be used as your 4th shot attack (or as your second technique in your rally)
      Hope that is easy to understand, but I know doing this now in a match to build up your confidence of consistency is KEY to adapt it to any moment technique :)
      Let me know your thoughts / opinion about it. Look forward to it :)

      @@dublintabletennisclub That's a good idea - 4th ball attack. I actually do short forehand push/chop and wait for short ball in BH side for flick/chop/drive accordingly or slightly long ball in FH so that I can drive. Will tell about the experiment/experience. Thanks.
