      It depends on what you watch in what language first you’ll tend to see that when you watch anime in Subbed you hate the voices in the Dubbed because they aren’t what they are in the subbed while with Dubbed most prefer to watch in English so reading something bores them faster

    Baccano literally had to be dubbed in english. 1930's during the Prohibition, I expect to an all american cast to speak english and have Nuw 'ork accents

    Seriously, dub haters are among the most obnoxious anime fans ever! If you enjoy the subbed versions better, fine, but don't go around mindlessly bash and shove down people's throats that all dubs are terrible on an actual good dubbed anime video. First off, Baccano sets in America and they're supposed to speak english and have American accents! This is one of the few animes that has truly exceptional dub along with the likes of Cowboy Bebop, Black Lagoon and Hellsing.

    First things first, Isaac and Miria are too cute! I need more of them! Sub or Dub! I need more!Second, I've got to say I prefer the dub for Baccano because it's accurate to it's setting! It takes place in America during it's jazzy age and the animators did a perfect job portraying that. Hearing the voice actors speak with the accents that are designated to that time period and place give it more of a feel to where the setting is supposed to be, at least for Americans. The Japanese voice over does have it own charm, but since I don't speak Japanese or know the dialects I can't match any accents they may try to portray as much as the American dubs. That's why I prefer the dub~!

  • @TheAndrewj96
    @TheAndrewj96 9 років тому +54

    I think the dub is better. Don't get me wrong, the original Japanese version is great, but man, the dub has some amazing voice acting, especially with Isaac and Miria. This is one of the very, *very* few dubs that's actually superior to the original... and shit, the only other one I can name is (obviously) Cowboy Bebop. I mean, I usually respect opinions, but people who say this dub just flat-out sucks are fucking biased morons.
    What's so surprising is the fact that most (not all, *most*) of these voice actors are fairly new to anime dubbing, including Bryan Massey (Ladd Russo) and Joel McDonald (Jacuzzi Splot).

    Baccano has some of the best english dubbing.
    The accents that people have make all the difference.
    I do usually prefer the japanese voices for most anime, but I think Baccano is just as good, if not better in English. Have you ever watched one anime in both English and Japanese? Usually the one you hear first will sound better because it's what you're used to.

  • @pauliazz94
    @pauliazz94 13 років тому

    you watched the raw one? or subbed one? and you prefer the dubbed one?. I watch it as it is since i understand japanese and i totally say the japanese voice is more suitable for the miria x isaac character. Well i prefer them in japanese language. you truly got a horrible taste of preferring the horrible dubs. you see isaac's body built yet his got a heavier voice in the english dub fit not much? same in other dubs but not all dubs are bad just a majority are bad. But all right.

  • @arcturus_starwatcher
    @arcturus_starwatcher 12 років тому

    I'm only saying this because I'm fluent in Japanese, but I actually like the sub better. True, the accents are more accurate, but that's only because we have English-speaking people performing accents that exist only in English.
    But in the Japanese version, there are all the little nuances and connotations accompanying the words that can't be imitated in any other language. But that's also because the author wrote it in Japanese.
    (But yes, I do find the accents in the dub very attractive. XD)

    I'll be honest, the Japanese version of this scene is *funnier*, in that it got more laughs out of me. However, Tatum and Glass's portrayal in the long run actually takes them beyond just really silly stupid comic relief and makes them believable as the surprisingly strong, admirable characters they are later in the series. The Japanese voices are sillier, but the English voices have a theatricality that makes them more believable when they want to take on the bad guys. $0.02

    Just to clarify. In japanese, the people actually all stand in a room together and synchronize it that way. If the scene has two talking, the two are actually talking to one another. In english (and pretty much most other language) they don't do that. Thats the actual part why japanese dubs are somewhat better, it's more natural.

      Rafael Lopez Couldn't disagree more with you. We're talking about "Baccano!", not "Clannad: After Story", after all. That series is no melancholic, deep drama, it's one hell of a (absolutely funny and also kind of mind provoking [3254676345 characters :D), thrilling) ride.
      Isaac and Miria together have a unbelievable genius chemistry, which is making me laugh every time they say the smallest word. Their chemistry comes exactly because of their voices, and especiall their unique intonations. For me, this chemistry got lost with the (still good, but...) English voice actors.
      I actually only prefer sub over dub because of Isaac's and Miria's genius voices.

    • @findusuli
      @findusuli 8 років тому

      Rafael Lopez Yeah, I see your point. It's how they wanted Miria to be seen, though (even though the "parent" thing is a questionable interpretation, you might even say she's just a naive partner [which leads to the same conclusions though, so.. xD]). Which of course doesn't mean shit if you don't like it. :D

      Although it's subjective, from a studious standpoint, it is certainly not. The Japanese voice actors are far better at what they do. Often, English dubs completely butcher a show. In this case, the dubbers didn't ruin the show -- but they are still a far cry from the original Japanese voice actors. When watching this dubbed version, it feels like the VAs are just trying to sound comedically naive to get in character. The Japanese VAs don't sound like VAs trying to portray something -- they just portray it. There are also key elements that got lost in translation: the jovial air which surrounds Isaac and Miria, accompanying their naivety, does not come through. That was the most likeable aspect about them, to me. The joyful, comedic fluctuations were also lost and replaced with cheeky phrasing.
      If you prefer dubbed that's entirely up to you -- and, as I've said, these dubs are on the better side of the spectrum -- but please understand that they are not better

    • @1upstories

      An important point to note is that people are partial to their initial exposure to something. After seeing (or learning, tasting, feeling, etc.) something a certain way, we develop a sense that that is the way it SHOULD be. In the case of anime, watchers associate the voices to the characters and thus feel that the voice is not the way it should be when switching between subs/dubs. In this case of representation or misrepresentation, subs virtually always triumphs because the Japanese version almost always comes out first. If a show is originally in English, it's likely to be more cartoon-like than anime-like, and if it's an anime it will likely not be as good as most Japanese animes. This is because anime has been a much greater part of Japanese culture than North American culture, for a much longer time. This is also true of the voice actors. Experience and exposure go hand in hand with skill.
      You virtually never see someone originally watching subs switching to watch dubs -- I've never heard of it but I'm assuming it happens occasionally. On the other hand, people who were introduced to anime through dubs convert to watching subs on a pretty regular basis, as was the case for myself and many of my friends.

      ***** I get your point, but in this specific anime, the accents and such of the setting are much better understood through the dub. Its a mafia show in 1930s america. If youve watched the godfather/ scarface the dub will feel right at home and the japanese sub cannot transmit the same vibe.
