I used the WHITE one on tour in 1973 opening up for The Edgar Winter Group when they had a string of #1 hits. Never went out of tune and a very slim "Ibanez " style neck... When out of phase, it sounds very much like a Ace Frehley Les Paul, BUT WITH 24 FRETS
Robert Smith from The Cure played one, and Colin Newman from Wire.
they were being produced from the early 70's david cassidy can be seen using them in in the partridge family episodes quite a bit i believe the show had a contract with ovation.
I am no expert by any means but it seems that the saddles are either improved on later models or they have been changed. There are other videos showing other Breadwinners with nylon saddles.
Deacon is the high end Breadwinner. I own one. The nut is nylon. The three-way switch is strange. The up is the neck pickup. The center is the bridge and the down is both but out of phase. The two position is a notch filter when up and regular when down. Do a search for the phrase "Getting more out of your Deacon or Breadwinner" and you will find a PDF file that tell all. Enjoy and send me that Breadwinner. I would love it. ;)
+Frank Vest The breadwinner was a higher model than the Deacon. Electric guitars don't have notch filters or need them. It most likely is a coil tap, I can't remember for its been a while. How to tell the Breadwinner was a better model? Look at the brass saddles on the breadwinner compared to the plastic saddles on the Deacon. Thats just one example. PS. Notch Filters are for acoustics guitars to prevent feedback.
From the manual: "The notch or mid-range switch when pushed towards the peghead
produces a 20 db reduction for notes around 60 cycles. The high "E" string is usually cut in volume when the mid-range is filtered out, as its fundamentals and overtones fall into this notch." www.ovationtribute.com/Catalogues/Breadwinner%20Settings%20Manual%202/Getting%20More%20Out%20Of%20Your%20Solid%20Body%20Ovation.pdf
Those saddles are nylon, not plastic.
+Frank Vest Cool guitars none the less.
To even run across a 24 fret back in the 70's Ugh less an active 18v
Ovation had a Genie in a Bottle. Somebody stole their Genie. That alone should have been an eye popper at NAAM
for that date. But nothing. I also believe Gene Simmons got the idea as well or an awesome coincidence!
Ace Frehley, Peter Tosh and Robert Smith were breadwinner players , to name just a few....
Sound?
73 they came out in 73 , think that's the deacon its the top of the line
lol perfect for a wedding band
Or for deafheaven
It doesn’t look like an axe to me it looks like a can opener
If you are going to bother demoing s guitar don't yuou think you should at least plug it in for 69 seconds?
That out of phase sound in the middle is sooo unsuable, such a bad idea! Otherwise cool guitar.
