  • A rather long-winded discussion on the Ovation Breadwinner and singer/actor, David Cassidy.
I misspoke in the video. The guitar was designed and manufactured in 1968 (my birth year) ,not 1971, as I stated. The prototypes weresent to The Partridge Family for the tv show, photo shoots, and marketing. The one that I've purchased is one of the original prototypes that have the output jack in a body route as opposed to a scratchplate or pickguard mount. There were about fifty of these guitars and ultimately many examples were re-sold to the public. Mine was built in '68 but not sold until '73, after it's marketing tenure.

I used to have a Ovation Viper in the Lovejoy days. It was a solid guitar. A lot of people played Breadwinner guitars Bjorn in ABBA, guitarist in Wire, Glenn Campbell, Marc Bolan T. Rex, Greg Hawkes The Cars keyboardist. I swore I saw Lou Reed playing one back in the day. They are super solid guitars. Ovation made a guitar same shape called a Deacon also.
