Ovation was a surprisingly innovative company especially in the 70’s. However, Scott likes Johnson amps. I’m sure his collection reflects both.

Scott, is the neck on this one a little wider than normal? It's look so beefy. Nice sound on it. Ugly, but music isn't about looks, is it? Just look at Keith and Mick. ;)

That may be the brightest neck pick up ever....I dig the look not so much the tone of it...😬

@NoiseMostBeautiful Yeah, it does a bunch. Actually, Ace Frehley originally used the white breadwinner that I show in the video. He yanked out the pickups and dropped the Dimarzio Super Distortion pickups in his and a simple 3 way toggle switch. So, he couldn't afford a Les Paul in the early 70's and made due with butchering a Breadwinner. lol

I have a Deacon, Viper and the Preacher, These active guitars can, if you're prepared to experiment, sound like other guitars too.

this is one of those guitars that sounds really good on paper, and then when you see the actual think your either thinking "thats really cool" or "what the hell" I think this guitar looks smokin but the electronics kill me.

@MrAlcatrazDick You are correct my friend. This guitar plays amazing and would be amazing if they pulled all of the active junk out of it and put in the pickups and electronics from the AMAZING Ovation Viper III They do make an after market pickguard to do exactly that, you can drop it right in. It would be such a monster guitar. But, these guitars, I buy them for the collectability only. I would never take it to a gig. I have real guitars for gigs. lol

@TheChocorooms Yeah, they've always had some wild ones. Their new electrics are nothing special at all. They are just back to doing Les Paul copies and such. No originality at all.

@ProjectDexter My pleasure. So, you have the Ovation Deacon, which is the highest model of the "Breadwinner" shaped line of guitars. That means plenty more $ should you ever decide to sell.

I have one that I lent to a friend almost 15 years ago. I think I might borrow it back!!! Thanks for your video.

@jonnyrb1981 Your guess is very welcome on this one. I honestly have no idea at all why they went with that particular voltage. There is a fair amount of info on these guitars and forums dedicated soley to the Breadwinners and all have guessed and it seems that nobody knows for sure. It's kind of like Big Foot. lol If you do find yourself with some spare time and find the answer, please post it in here. I would love to know 100% for sure myself. Thanks much Johnny!

@chrishpippin I didn't notice it being any wider than normal. I don't have much more than 5 minutes of play time into it though. It's been just hanging on the wall since I got it. I don't plan on actually using it for anything.

@cthulhugamete I'm glad you popped in. Feel free to do so any old time. It gets lonely in here. lol A labor of love for sure my friend. Cheers and happy holidays!

These have a very interesting midrange honk. A bit like wiring the polarity in reverse and having both pickups on.

@ZephyrRock Yeah, there's room there and half the work is already done for you since the whole bridge is recessed into a pre cut cavity.

@yoyomyhoes Thank you very much! I've been looking for one of these to add to the walls of fun for quite while and with that finish.
