- With it being the Anniversary of the Battle Of The Bulge. And the weather being a brisk -4C I thought it a prefect time for a detailed Tutorial on how I go about weathering winter effects on my 1/35 vehicles
Lovely. Just sitting here with mud and snow outside....nice work and a wonderful explanation. Merry Christmas.
thanks Rick! Its a very fitting tutorial for this time of year indeed! And was so much fun to work on
Hi Shane
I like the way that you have portrayed some ‘realistic’ weathering.
After working on heavy vehicles for over 40 years you sort of get the benefits of what and where you find mud etc
Everything under the running boards is covered and every horizontal surface is caked.
I like the snow effects, subtle but very effective and not over done!
Another great video mate thanks for sharing your techniques again!
Thanks Michael! Its always a nice feeling when you get actually real world data from people who deal with these things in real life. And they say it checks out!
cheers and happy Christmas
Excellent advice with less is more, add if needed..snow is fresh at first, road travel gets that dirty, slush build up of dirty ice snow.. both on vehicles and walk areas, against buildings.. look forward to watching more as you work & post.. cheers from Florida
Greetings from Ireland! I always try to be restrained in my weathering approach as its so easy to go overboard when it comes adding effects. And can create very messy end results that can really take away from all your painting and building effects now hidden under a slap dash weathering layer
Hi Shane, it has taken me about a week to watch this video, and it was worth the wait, I have just got this kit now so I will have yo go back and watch the videos again, I may try a 'light' winter effect, i hope you and your family have great Christmas Day, and i would like to wish you all a Happy New Year, bedt regards from a Kiwi living in Australia.
Thanks Les! Do tell me how you get with your build!
Happy new year to you my friend!
Great work there Shane 👏 Can't wait for the diorama!
Thanks mate! Hopefully I will get started on the Dio in the next few days!
Merry Christmas mate
@@longlance67 and merry Christmas to you as well Shane 🎄
Fantastic! It looks cold! 👍🏻
It really has wintery vibe alright lol
Nice mate, looks great and couldn't have come at a better time, I've just started working on the Asuka model Sherman Ic firefly which is going to be my first winter white wash victim, so I will be coming back to this video as a guide for the weathering process
thanks mate! I've yet to do a whitewash vehicle too. So do let me know how you get on
Great work Shane 👍
thanks Ian!
Excellent
thanks mate!
nice ❄️
Thanks 🔥
Outstanding. I particularly like the way you have blended the three elements of thin and thick mud and the snow effects. Too often you see models being depicted in winter that look like they have been attacked by the icing sugar fairy. Have a great Christmas, and a safe New Year.
Thank you very much! It can be tricky trying to get the balance of snow and mud right. But I am super happy with how it all came out!
have a great Christmas
Really cool details.
Thanks!
An important lesson here - take your time, build up layers and vary the colors. If you don't like it, go back and add some more. Mud is always a challenge, as is snow, but you were able to pull off both, using a methodical, well thought out approach. Great tutorial, liked watching this progress. Thanks!!
Thanks Jerry! Glad you found it useful and helpful. I think that is the greatest lesson in weathering is just work slow, with small amounts as you can easily fix or change things when its only affecting a small aspect of model.
Merry Christmas mate!
@@longlance67 Merry Christmas! 🎄
Looks great mate, hopefully I'll be able to have a crack at doing snow effects sometime in the new year and I'll definitely be copying your technique
Cheers mate! You should give it a try as its not too hard to get nice result!
Merry Christmas mate!
@@longlance67 cheers Shane, merry Christmas and a happy new year to you too.... Enjoy the crack!! 🎊
Never done snow and winter mud. Looks really effective Nicely explained too.
thanks Mark! hope you have a nice Christmas mate!
Looks great ,have a good Christmas.
Happy holidays!
Great video Shane! I like the result of the layered enamel plus wet and snow effects. There is a lot of depth to the result, and it really does look like the sloppy crap that accumulates when driving in winter conditions :)
Thanks Ev! Always trust a Canadian when it comes to snow ;)
Merry Christmas mate
Great video Shane , shall have to give this a go ,merry Christmas
Thanks mate! Hope you have a nice Christmas !
Merry Christmas
Happy new year
Very believable snow effect particularly on the cargo. Getting it random and with equal density over that large an area ain't easy.
If I was going to criticize anything it would be the amount of snow on the hood and front fenders. That's way too much if the engine has been running at all recently, but that's part of the story your diorama will be telling, isn't it?
Thanks very much, I am super happy how it turned out. As for the snow on the bonnet I felt it looked too odd to have bare. Though its gonna be parked up in my dio for this. So its been sitting cold for a few hours
What company makes the truck, Shane. Great work by the way!
This truck is by Tamiya has been around about twenty years now I say, but still is very good kit!
