Alice In Chains - "Man In The Box" (Bass Cover)

- This is the first song I ever heard from AIC. Remember seeing the video on MTV and being amazed by the imagery and looming melody... it is a great song that captures you from the start. Mike Starr helps drive the pulse of the song with surgical precision and groove. Also, that Spector tone is just awesome.
Bass: Spector NS2
Tuning: EbAbDbGb
Mike Starr was underrated despite being a very prominent sound in that band. Without him they would not have sounded so good but his choice of Bass lines coupled with Jerry's chord choices made that three piece sound huge and full. \m/ RIP!
His sound and approach to bass was an integral part on building the AiC sound. 🤘🏻
Underrated? Nah he got enough recognition enough for that time. He's underrated to you because of your recent discovery of him and the band as of late.. In YOUR GENERATION.
Yeah sucks you simply did not exist when this song came out. Your comment clearly reflects your current generation of COPY and PASTE.
@jt.8144 did you really try to show off your superiority complex on a comment that was 2 years old? Kinda pathetic
The tone never disappoints
Thanks!
I love that you include a demo of all the parts, after the song.
Thanks! 👊🏻
Just about the best cover I've seen. Those running walking lines in the prechorus on the 2nd and 3rd time with all the triplets are what Mike does. Some (most) covers dont do those little nuances. Great job
Appreciate it!! Thank you 👊🏻
@@kellogc no problem man. Awesome work bro
So interesting, I never heard the bass do the part under "won't you come and save me?" It's cool listening to you cover this stuff and having the bass so much more prominent than in the original mixes of the songs.
Thank you! Some details are something not that obvious. For some songs it helps the isolated tracks are available to catch it all
It's a typical blues run, fits what Jerry plays (a Chuck Berry power chord) perfectly. The only shame is that you can't really hear it distinctly, but somehow you perceive its feel.
What's cool that Mike actually played a Spector bass in this song
Yeah! 👊🏻
finally somebody getting into it atleast.... al lthese other covers the lads are just standing there looking like friggin robots
well done sir
Gotta feel it 👊🏻
Awesome work, thank you! I love the little play-throughs you add at the end of your videos.
I do too, it's nice to hear the isolated tone.
Thanks! I’m glad you like that 👊🏻
That't always the cherry on the cake. 😉😅🤟🏻✌
Oh man another great rendition that you've done taken everybody back in time which is a good thing .
Thanks for watching 🤘🏻
Always
Dude, I was just thinking the same…
Since you brought it up. Are we ever going to collectively get our heads together and take back our autonomy and free will ?
Mike Starr and Alice in chains. There are only a few bands that have such a charisma and chemistry you just cant put into words.
Mike Starr was a king. God bless him.
It’s great to see Harvey Keitel killing it on bass lol. Killer tone man!
Thanks!
I need to get a hold of this guy and find out how he's getting one of the meanest tones out of that bass I've ever heard in my life. Great sound.
Thank you! 👊🏻
Epa González!!!! Pura 🔥🤟
Muchas gracias 🤘🏻😉
Oh hell yeah, just recently started listening to a bunch of Alice In Chains so this is just awesome
Thanks! 🤘🏻
I always wondered why Mike Starr played the walking bass part during the pre chorus all on the E string instead of playing it the way Kello played it in this video? BTW - the only bass line Mike wrote on Dirt was for "Would?". The rest was written by my friend who then had to teach Mike how to play it for the recording of the album "Dirt".
Every time I see your videos, I get motivated to keep playing bass. You are an amazing bassist man :)
Thanks! I’m glad you are. Keep
It up! The world needs more bass! 👊🏻
As a Spector owner.Indeed We are the secret weapon.
It is an awesome instrument indeed 🤘🏻🖤🤘🏻
Que buena línea de bajo, "simple" pero contundente, me quedó claro cómo es, muchas gracias Kello, impecable cover.
Así es amigo! Muchas gracias ☺️
Love watching you play bass … your style is very interesting and layer back type …..
Thank you!
Simply excellent!
Great tone 👌
Thank you 🙌🏻
Great song and great cover. Thanks for sharing. Jeez I hope my neighbors liked it because they would have heard it.
Yeah! 🤘🏻🤓🤘🏻
man i really want those spector pjs
Hell yeah man. I also love the live version on their live album.
I like that "swing" groove you throw onto the chorus section especially, never heard it played like that before on bass but it makes it groove way harder! Cheers
Thank you 👊🏻
Gotta take a moment to appreciate you my boy been watching for as long as I can remember you are definitely one of the greats both covering and with your own music. As a bass player myself you are definitely an inspiration I only hope to be half as good when I’ve been playing as long as you have. Keep it up my boy you are definitely going places!!!!
Thanks a lot. I appreciate your kind words and taking the time to continue watching these videos. I hope they help in any way. You can be even better, just continue playing bass and striving to become a better musician 🤘🏻
Great groove
Thanks you! 🤘🏻
Siempre con un gran tono de bajo y admirable técnica, ¡grande Kello!
Muchas gracias ☺️
Killer playin'!!
Holy shit!
You nailed it bro!,
As always...

@@kellogc The whole evening we're listening to you bro (with beer in our hand, and pálinka in our head 🤣😅), you have a fuckin' great taste of music!
My best friend said :
Who loves Pantera, never can be a bad guy!!,
Absolutely agreed!! 😊👍🏻🤘
@@kellogc And they all hate the 'Tallica from the Black album ("boring shit"), but as you play the white album's bass lines gives right to Jason too.
I liked Newsted very much in Metallica.
He was treated like a piace of a sh....
So , enough said.
That was realy not nice.
Glad you’re enjoying the videos. Rock on! 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
@@kellogc Hi Kello!!
That was a great evening, it needs a repeat!! 😂😁🍻👍🤘
Wauting for nu" stuff!! (Maybe Manowar???? 🤗🤘)
Rock on bro!! 👍👍👍
great job! awesome tone, too! Mike would be proud.
Thank you! 🤘🏻
Watching you play has been the single greatest lesson in my learning bass. I'm just beginning again after 30 years of frustration and torment. Your Tool videos inspired me to buy some new strings and knock the dust off my old fender jazz after 3 decades of neglected storage. I just actually played along with this video after a year of watching your smooth talented style , I'm in awe , I just actually played this awesome song along with you ,,, and I kind of almost sounded ok doing it. Thank you so much Kello , I've dreamed of doing this since Fender Americans were affordable. And getting to play AiC material makes me feel very encouraged You're awesome Kello, thanks so much man!.
Thanks for sharing! I’m glad you got your bass out and are playing again. Keep it up! The world needs more bass! 🤘🏻🤩🤘🏻
great cover, great songs. an iconic song by the band, I have been 3 times on the concerts where they played as a support and there was always this song.
Thanks!
Kello .. you rock on bass … one of my favorite songs to play and listen too Layne was a damn good singer
Hell yeah!
Thanks a lot! We do miss Layne 🤘🏻
Awesome... Love this song!!
Thanks! 👊🏻
This is also the first AIC song I heard!! Still my all time favorite track from them too. I'm so happy you covered this🤩
It’s a very solid song. 👊🏻
¡Como lo esperé! Gracias Kellito genio y querido. Feliz año nuevo.
Muchas gracias, feliz año! 🤘🏻
Hell yeah!! Great job, again! Keep em coming!
Thank you 👍🏻
Not a big fan of AiC, but always loved that song. Seems really fun to play and a it’s a joy to watch.
It’s a great song indeed!
Amazing cover of one of my favourite bands! Thanks a bunch, Kello! Stay safe \m/
Thanks a lot! Stay safe as well 👊🏻
3 days long I am with you bro!

So glad I started playing bass last summer. Love your tone man 🤘
Thank you! Welcome to the bass family! 👊🏻
Muchas gracias 🤘🏻
Killer tone as always!
Thanks!
Awesome Kello! That Spector sounds great.
Thank you! I love it! 🤘🏻
Alright Kello, this was so impeccable, time to cover the entire Alice unplugged album! 🤘🏾🙏🏾😎
Feel like you brought a little Jack Bruce into the bassline, almost!
I like that! 😉👊🏻
killer pocket!
Thanks! 👊🏻
That ROCKED.
Thanks! 👊🏻
Awesome cover
Thanks! 🤘🏻⚡️🤘🏻
First band I've ever seen live was Alice In Chains. 🤘😆 Awesome sound and cover.
Great band for sure! Thanks!
Kello, killer cover and sound. Do you recall what amp settings you used? Curious since I have an Ibanez bass with a PJ setup, but I just can’t get in the same ballpark as this
oh yeah man!
Thanks! 🤘🏻
¡Enorme, Kello! Me molan mucho tus vídeos. Incluso has hecho que me plantee el comprarme un bajo eléctrico y ponerme a practicar jajaja Saludos desde España :)
Deberías hacerlo! Muchas gracias! 🤘🏻
Bravo, linea di basso spettacolare!!!😎👊
🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Hola Kello!!! Youre not a kick ass, you are a KICK BASS MAN!!!!
Thanks! 😎🤘🏻
Killer tone. Can you share your pup settings etc?
i’m a guitar player mostly -
i’m just now switching over to put in some much needed time and practice into bass…. WHAT KINDA BASS and amp set up is that? that tone is so beefy but the treble is what i love!
This is a Spector NS2 bass. I used a Line6 Helix, the amp is an emulated Aguilar DB751 with an Ampeg 8x10 cab 👊🏻
Perfect 👍🏾
👊🏻
Nailed it!
🤘🏻🔥🤘🏻
Jajajaja...siempre me ha gustado la rola...pero ahora está versión me satisface, se siente, es fuerte...te agradezco otra vez
Muchas gracias! Gran rola sin duda 👊🏻
Awesome! Is that a Kramer era NS2? You have a killer bass collection! I have been trying to find a late 80's Spector for 2 years.
It is! It’s a 1989 Kramer era NS2. Good catch. I do love this bass so much! 🔥
🔥 Perfect 👊🪶
Thank you!
Thanks a lot Kello, where you studies bass, diy?
Yes, mostly self taught 👊🏻
Hey sir, could you share with me how low you have your action adjusted on this bass, I’m looking to get my Spector adjusted just like yours😂
Can I ask what tab you used? Really want to learn this correctly
Check at songsterr.con 🤘🏻😉
@@kellogc thank you :)
Brabo !!!!🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Soy un hombre sencillo, si el tito Kello ha subido vídeo, lo veo al instante.
Muchas gracias 🤘🏻
This was amazing again brother !!! May i ask what model Spector are you using?it sounds really good 🤘
Thanks a lot. It’s a Spector NS2 🔥
Such a great bass sound. What are the amp settings?
I’m using a Line 6 Helix for the recording of this video. Didn’t use an actual amp but an emulated Aguilar DB751. Amp is almost flat. In my chain I do have a Sansamp BDDI preamp that adds some grit to the sound. Also, the Spector NS2 plays a big part on the timbre 🤘🏻
Sounds good brutha! I see Kello, I see Alice in Chains I CLICK!!!!!!
Thank you brother! 🤘🏻🤩🤘🏻
Que pedales usas maestro
awesome, please do an Angra - Never Understand cover
Fuck yeah!! 🤘😝🤘
🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Hello friend, are you using some effects?
I added a little saturation (from B7k) for additional grit 🤘🏻
uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuffffffffffffffff 🤘
Ahhh! 🤘🏻😱🤘🏻
Una de la banda Bostik...por favor
Showwww 🤟🤟🤟
🤘🏻🤩🤘🏻
Great sound Kello! Is that the Sansamp?
I’m using a Line6 Helix. I did add a Sansamp pre into my chain , as well as some B7k dirt
Tocas muy bien kell has el de five finger dead punch bad company
I want to ask you for advice dude. I am a beginner who wants to buy a bass. I'm torn between choosing a 4 or 5 wire instrument, do you think I should care about it now?
I'm a 27 year old man and have pretty big hands, I'd like to have versatility, since I listen to many different genres.
As for your playing, it's incredible, I won't waste more words.
Thank you in advance.
I would start with 4 strings. You can always sell and get a 5er later on once you become more skilled on bass, and only if you do need to go that route 🤘🏻
@@kellogc Thanks man, I'll get a V7 with 4 strings.
@Kello Gonzalez 5 stars 2 thumbs up!
Thanks 👊🏻
❤️
🤘🏻🖤🤘🏻
🤩🤩🤩
🤘🏻🤩🤘🏻
Sen de yaşlandın be Kello.

It’s a Spector NS2 bass 👊🏻
Layne Staley❤️🖤👍
🤘🏻🖤🤘🏻
👍👍👍👍👍
🤘🏻😎👍🏻
🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻
🤘🏻☺️🤘🏻
Loved it! Unfortunately lose or change a member of a band and you change the dynamic of the sound and music whether good or bad. He made his mark on those first 2 albums. Such a profound band that will never be the same again.
Thanks! 🤘🏻
