41 years ago I was in Kilifi... Just think, WAY MORE than HALF of all the people currently living were not even BORN then! I don't remember what I paid for a bottle of Tusker back then... 50 cents? I doubt that it was a dollar. I DO remember what I paid for my Makonde ebony carving though. There were some Makonde carvers from Mozambique on the north side of the creek sitting in a thatched roof carving shelter. VERY intricate stuff. I paid US$22 for the carving that struck me. It is about 20 cm tall. My one true treasure from my days in Africa.
Must have been very different but amazing back then. And that you have a treasure from this beautiful country. Thanks for watching and following our journey
Fascinating video guys...thanks. Pity about the expensive beer...trouble in paradise. I'll ask Alasdair, who is David Musselwhite's son, for a further insight about his Dad's involvement in the hotel. Alasdair is a good friend of mine and lives here in Cape Town. I think he is in touch with you. He's building a beautiful Lyle Hess Falmouth Cutter...and talks about keeping her at Kilifi.
Thanks Peter! Hope you are well and still swimming with no wetsuit at FBYC. Ja been chatting with Alasdair, he sent me a great old hand written guide to sailing Kenyan coast and some amazing old pics of the Creek. Sounds like his cutter will he perfectly suited for Kilifi Creek and good to keep the family sailing tradition alive here in Kilifi!
Another great adventure video, thank you sailors! 👌✌😎
Thanks Captain!
Seems that Kilifi and environs is a favourite of yours. Can see why
