Hey thank you. It helps me. Btw, im thinking of buying legion 5 amd version, but for your intel version, is there any problem or are you satisfied with the purchase? How about the battery life?
Hey Waving water. Glad I could help, hopefully I can continue helping in the future :). I personally am really happy with the version I have. I use it for editing and recording videos, played some high end games with it, do Photoshop, you name it. The performance is great. I don't really use the batterij on it as I pretty much use it as a Desktop PC and is always connected. What AMD version did you plan on getting? I'm sure that will be a killer laptop as well.
i bought the amd verision (r7 4800h) and in my opinion its way better than intel mostly because youre getting 8c 16t on amd where u only get 6c 12t with intel
So is it the laptop that’s causing HDMI not to run at 144 or does the monitor only support 144 through DP? cause I know some monitors are like that where the HDMI is like 120hz while the DP is the full 144
I'm using an Nvidia GPU laptop, with only HDMI 2.0 and USB type C. Can I use USB type c to display port cable to connect a FreeSync 144hz monitor? G-Sync and 144hz refresh rate can be applied?
hi @Danny Chin, What laptop and monitor are you going to use it on? In theory it should work yes. But you might want to double check the manuals just to be sure (if you are using different hardware than in this video)
You can with an adaptor, but with limited bandwith; Usb C is fully compatible with display port if write on the pc spec. A solution could be usb c/dp adaptor and dp/hdmi adaptor
I just bought the same cable. I have Legion 5i pro, but cant seem to get it to work from the port in the back but only on left side. Would be better if i was able to have it in the back. Any idea why its not working?
Hey bro! Can u help me? I have the LG 27GN750 (G-Sync compatible - Nvidia Web) and the same laptop but in the monitor Menu instead "Adaptive - Sync" , appears Freesync . My monitor is connected with HDMI , and in the monitor Menu shows --> 240 Hz , Freesync : ON , but in the Nvidia Panel (Desk) , it doesn't appear the "G-Sync Configuration" Should i buy the Displayport cable? or what am i doing wrong? Help please. RIP my english.
I think the Freesync monitors needs to be connected with a DisplayPort to the notebook, with an HDMI the option Activate Sync it won't be shown because of the cable. I also have the same question because my monitor it's a Freesync one and I don't know if with this cable the option would show😭 Sorry for my english too, I speak spanish

This is what has been stopping me from upgrading. I have a Y540 and it has a mini display port and I use that to connect my gaming monitor. All my Google results about using usb c say it can support 2 x 4k at 60 Hz but, it says nothing about 144 Hz for 1080 or 2k. If I wanted to run two 4k monitors at 60 Hz, I would get a raspberry pi. Thanks for the help.
Even i have a y540 and want to run a single monitor at 1080p 144hz.. will i need a mini dp to display port cable or can I just use the hdmi to run one single monitor@1080p 144hz.. pls replt
@@TheAdiAggarwal just follow exactly this guy did,buy the cable instead of using hdmi that might not be able to fully use the monitor refresh rate and gsync..hdmi cannot use gsync or other sync, only display cable can....thats why we use this cable to enable full refresh rate and enable the gsync
Thanks so much for this man! I've been searching for some details on external displays and it's really hard to find anyone talking about it beyond simple 1080. I use a Samsung 4K freesync monitor with with my desktop, but I typically run my games at 1440p anyway, and I really want to try pushing the Legion 5 to 1440 to see if the performance is comparable since everything else about the computer is pretty much superior to my current build. Mine is actually one of the newer Ryzen 7 Legion 5 models and it's supposedly freesync compatible, so everything else about this checks out in theory right? Do you think I could do full 2160p in general at 60hz? It's got displayport of course so in theory as long as the cable is capable it should work...
@@simranjeetsingh5218 I could only do 60hz because that's what my display supports unfortunately, but it worked great and the frames were decent for what I played. I ran some FPS at 1440p and got consistently high numbers by what I remember, but most things didn't hit 60 frames (depending on how intensive the game was). So the best midpoint basically was like 1440p at 60hz which gave me mid level (35-50 fps) in some of the fast paced games. 4K is possible but not ideal.
Currently getting 1440p at 144 hz via USB-C to USB-C on BenQ 3203r, but no HDR, probably limitations of the USB-C on the monitor. Will check with USB-C to DP 1.4 adapter tomorrow and see if HDR gets enabled !

Are you using usb-c to dp 1.2 or 1.4 ? I want to get one from Lindy, but they only sell dp 1.2. I am curious if dp 1.2 will able to support hdr10 from LG monitor...
Hello, Thank you for your video , please i have a question and i hope you got the answer , so i'am willing to buy a 165hz monitor with a type c , will i still have that refresh rate when i plug it with a type C cable from both sides (type c to type c Cable)
Hi TNx_Prime. Thanks for the feedback. I don’t see a problem with that type of cable so it should work. Just make sure the cable is rated 4k and good quality to be sure it can handle it. Hope this helps.
I know this is kind of an old video, but I was wondering if the usb-c port on the Legion 5 had to be thunderbolt or not to support an external monitor.
It does not but it has to support displayport. It doesn’t matter if thunderbolt or usb-c. A usb c port can support DisplayPort but doesn’t have to. Depends on what the manufacturer implemented. It can also support charging but again, depends on the manufacturer if he put a good usb-c port into device or not. The only thing that is guaranteed to work is data. Everything else you have to look up on a data sheet about the laptop. Btw with thunderbolt its the same. Not every thunderbolt port supports charging or displayport.
But in the manual it says there is a max output of 60fps. Ist that just on 4k or generelly. Otherwise the monitor is refreshing itself with 144 hz but ots just getting 60 frames via the cable.
So is the laptop 144hz or not becuase from the shop I am going to buy it from it says it's 144hz the 15IMH05 one so is it 144hz the laptop display? Also how much srgb does it have?
I have tried using this cable on my msi gf63 but it’s not working. :( I have c type 3.1 USB port but still it’s not working. It shows error like usb is not recognised. I have also upgraded and reinstalled the drivers still same issue. So in the end I have bought 2.0 HDMi and same monitor which you are currently using

Luckily I checked your video before buying an external monitor. How do you use the laptop when second monitor is on? Does it heat more? Do you close the screen or leave it opened?
Hey dude prime, I have the same laptop. Trying to connect Xiaomi Surface 34" with Display ports only. Would it work if I buy a Female Displayport (Not the Mini DP) to USB Type C?

Hello, you have helped me alot. I am thinking of buying a external monitor for my lenovo legion y530 with 1050ti card, 60hz laptop screen. My main concerns were if 144hz would be enabled and if freesync would work. Now i think i am gonna buy the same LG but in 24" because of its monitor menu, where hz and gsync is set very easily. One last thing, my laptop has an extra mini displayport output. Should i get the same cable as you or get a display to mini display port cable?

I BOUGHT THIS CABLE TODAY: Insignia ™ - 6 'USB-C to DisplayPort Cable RUNS PERFECT (2560 x 1440 144Hz)
Would you know of another cable to buy because this one appears to be sold out at Amazon?
In this case the issue is specific to this laptop. Not the monitor.
Usb c to hdmi will work free sync on nvidia gpu card? My monitor does not have dp port
can i run tripple screen trough usb-c and hdmi
Hey Dylan, according to the documentation the laptop supports up to three screens in total. So yes it should. Hope this helps.
Does it has to to be usb-c thunderbolt 3 or ordinary usb -c since I have only a normal usb-c port on my laptop?
so, i cant use a hub usb- c with an hdmi in it?
Hi Wolfman Foundries, I guess that depends on the hub and how it would support that. The usb-c does support video.
You can with an adaptor, but with limited bandwith;
Usb C is fully compatible with display port if write on the pc spec.
A solution could be usb c/dp adaptor and dp/hdmi adaptor
Why not use mini DP to DP ?? Please suggest
Can i do this on a 240hz external monitor? I also have a legion 5 rtx2060 i just wanna know if display port to usb type c will handle 240hz
Are you able to connect two monitors in Legion 5 rtx 2060 laptop?
how can i be sure i my laptop has thunderbolt support i have only that information it has usbc 3.2 gen1 does all usbc gen1 support thunderbolt?
I just bought the same cable. I have Legion 5i pro, but cant seem to get it to work from the port in the back but only on left side. Would be better if i was able to have it in the back. Any idea why its not working?
Do you know if I could connect one monitor to usb-c and other by hdmi to have dual monitors?
Hey bro! Can u help me? I have the LG 27GN750 (G-Sync compatible - Nvidia Web) and the same laptop but in the monitor Menu instead "Adaptive - Sync" , appears Freesync .
My monitor is connected with HDMI , and in the monitor Menu shows --> 240 Hz , Freesync : ON , but in the Nvidia Panel (Desk) , it doesn't appear the "G-Sync Configuration"
Should i buy the Displayport cable? or what am i doing wrong? Help please.
RIP my english.
I think the Freesync monitors needs to be connected with a DisplayPort to the notebook, with an HDMI the option Activate Sync it won't be shown because of the cable. I also have the same question because my monitor it's a Freesync one and I don't know if with this cable the option would show😭
Sorry for my english too, I speak spanish

hey i got a question, does this work for my asus tuf rtx 3060 amd 5800h laptop? it doesnt have a displayport but it does have that usb, in the documentation folder of the laptop says that the hdmi only supports 1920x1080 144hz, but my external monitor supports 165hz and i want to push to that. but hdmi cant, and the laptop hdmi cant either. the displayport range is better tho. as im not sure if this cable is capable of the same range as a displayport. sorry for bad english sentences im not very good at english
Did you find out?
I have the same laptop Lenovo legion 5 rtx 3060 and it doesn't have thunderbolt

What do I need to run 2 monitors on this laptop?
It has just one HDMI port :(
This is what has been stopping me from upgrading.
Glad I could help :)!
HI! I too have the y540. which cable should i exactly use to connect to a gaming monitor?
Thanks for your comment! Your setup sounds awesome as well! Yup it should work using DisplayPort. Let me know how it turns out in performance :)!
Hey man.. just wondering if you did use 1440p 144z with Lenovo Legion 5(2060) and how much FPS drop was there.
4K is possible but not ideal.
thanks my big bro, big help
Glad I could help! :)
Currently getting 1440p at 144 hz via USB-C to USB-C on BenQ 3203r, but no HDR, probably limitations of the USB-C on the monitor. Will check with USB-C to DP 1.4 adapter tomorrow and see if HDR gets enabled !
may i know what cable did you use? and do you know any type c cable to type c that suppoet 1440p 165hz?
is it possibly to use 2 monitor?
like one is plugged into hdmi and the other one in usb c displayport?
i'm facing also this problem with my lenovo legion y520 with (intel hd 630 and gtx 1050) my external monitor is 144hz but its showing only 120hz
would a hdmi to type c cable solve this problem ?
I needed this badly
Did audio work for you on USB-C to display port?
I have c type 3.1 USB port but still it’s not working.
It shows error like usb is not recognised.
I have also upgraded and reinstalled the drivers still same issue. So in the end I have bought 2.0 HDMi and same monitor which you are currently using
Hello, I have a question, I want to connect monitor through laptop, my monitor 240hz, and the version of type c to displayport 1.2, If in this cable says 2k 144hz can I connect to my monitor and it's will be 240hz?
Is there a problem if i use displayport to hdmi?
Luckily I checked your video before buying an external monitor. How do you use the laptop when second monitor is on? Does it heat more? Do you close the screen or leave it opened?
Is USB-C cable same as thunderbolt cable tho? Thanks
do you have a RGB keyboard?
I started with 8k cable and had no problem running 144 👍👍
Hey dude prime, I have the same laptop. Trying to connect Xiaomi Surface 34" with Display ports only. Would it work if I buy a Female Displayport (Not the Mini DP) to USB Type C?
Hi there, any recommendation docking system for Legion 5 pro?
is this cable can charging laptop? i have only 1 type C port and need to charging playing games
omy just what i needed
What if the usb C is plugged to a USB hub which is plugged to the legion 5, will that also work?
Hello. I have a Legion 5i and i get 165hz with a HDMI cable. It works perfectly. My monitor is a AOC Agon 31,5 inches, full HD 165hz with 1 DP and 2 HDMIs. I was wondering if the USB c port could do the same, gonna buy one of these cables and try, thanks!
there is input lag with that cable?
Not with the usb-c one if thats what you mean :)
Can we connect two monitors to Legion 5?
i play hdmi 144 hz on my legion 5, my monitor is 165 hz so you think i can get 165 use usb-c ?
you think thunderbolt 3(usb-c) to a thunderbolt dock then use the usb-c conector of the dock to connect it to monitor will work?
Dude, you freaking saved my life :)
Glad I could help!
So as long as I use a usb to display port cable I should be able to take advantage of my monitor’s 144hz refresh rate and Gsync? I have the same LG monitor btw.

Is there a way to get 144hz extending the display to 2 monitors while maintaining the laptop display? I'm trying to run 3 displays this way. 2 monitors and the laptop display.
Got the same laptop and my monitor got the display port 1.2 . Does it work with DisplayPort with Hdmi 2.0? Or only DisplayPort with USB C. Also asking because your monitor got the Display Port 1.4.
Hi, does your USB C have that thunderbolt icon? Also do you know if it's USB C 3.2?

Hi. Thanks for the video. I have lenovo legion y540 connected to LG 27GL850 144hz monitor (same as this video) with HDMI cable but it has "freesync" instead of adaptive sync. Hi Dhanur Sukhija! Did it work before? or did you try to update drivers?
@@Vinking i have recently purchased this laptop and monitor. Drivers are updated. Could the issue be that im using HDMI and not display port cable?
What kind of videocard does your laptop have? The issue I had was actually the HDMI cable. Displayport solved the issue for me.
Nice explanation bro.
*Help*
So I purchased my new Alienware AW2720HFL monitor
It came today
I tried connecting it to my Lenovo Legion 5 laptop via the hdmi cable came with the monitor
But
the display is showing no input
I tried many solutions on the internet (
Rebooting, reconnecting, installing the latest drivers, selecting the right input etc..) unfortunately nothing worked
So
I tried the same monitor but on my brother desktop to check if it working
And it worked (both via hdmi and dp) next
I tried to connect my laptop to my brother's monitor
Via hdmi as it's the only port that's available ont he both devices
But it too didn't work
Same (showing no input)
So now I ordered a dp to usb c cable
But incase it didn't work, what should I do :0?
can you charge your laptop with usb c conncet to display port?

bro, does your laptop tell you that the USB C port is connected to the graphics card? I have a Lenovo Legion 5 too, but it appears in the nvidia panel wue is connected in the igpu
@TheAnonJohn , I'm so glad I could help out :)! I will have more lenovo legion stuff coming out soon so hopefully I can continue helping. I would get the same cable. There seem to be some issues if you use converters and or use the HDMI port. Getting the correct cable which I did will save you a lot of money (I had to learn the hard way :)). If you need more info please let me know!
