My grandfather (depression era farmer) kept a tub of sand that was soaked with used motor oil When he got done with a shovel hoe etc. he would just shove it down into the sand which cleaned the tool, and added a thin coat of oil, his tools all were rust free and in great shape after years of use.

Good Evening ! I love working on the old tools, very ZEN for me. I soak my tool handle at the head in anti freeze. When the water evaporates after taking it out, the ethelene stays & keeps the wood swollen. I'm with you, cats & dogs. TAKE CARE..

I agree love old quality tools an knives. I'm a carbon steel guy love old American made butcher knives old axes an cast iron. Just put handle scales on a heavy machete that was made by Japan for us military. I used awesome grain wood off a 1950s oak twin bed I saved the wood from. Enjoy refinishing old things. Enjoyed the video. Good luck

Flea markets, yard/garage sales, thrift stores, all great places to get like new, name brand equipment for pennies on the dollar. Also I love all animals. Some for companionship, some for eatin. Have a German Shepard, had a cat but she died a couple years ago. Have had dogs, cats, rats, frogs, birds, ground hogs and some others over the years. Miss every single one of em.

There may be a day where you will not be able to run down to the local hardware or big box store to pick up a new cheap made in “Gina” tool. If/when the US goes to a full war time economy you can kiss access to ANY consumer good, good-bye. In WWII no vehicles for common civilian use were available - new books publishing was greatly curtailed. And that was when we had a massive manufacturing capability. So what do you think will be available in the next war economy?
I get my best deals on old tools at auctions. I have a very good collection with multiple duplicates of some items to the point where I have actually sold a few tools to my local Amish neighbor.

I love dogs and cats, if I have to fall on one side of this fence I'm gonna have to go cats though and lament the loss of the puppers.
Thankfully I'm a sane individual and have both, honestly just being good with animals in general is a trait that I am glad to have and a more important one is to be able to spot those that aren't. A person not good with animals probably isn't a good person.

Im a dog guy. A cat will go hide if a bogey charged through your door but my 80 lb dog will make him pay. My best all time flea market buy was an anvil vis for$5. Just this week I cleaned up a machete I found in a ditch near some woods and heat-formed a pvc sheath for it, adding a belt loop and a web shoulder sling.

All the bags are Built the same for each individual but some bags contain more stuff as each family gets one item for certain categories. i'm building 5 bags for three families and 7 people. I'm with you. I like both dogs and cats. They are very different animals and have their advantages and disadvantages in terms of keeping them as pets. The bigger the dog, the more expensive it is to properly care for them, in my experience. However, I like big dogs better than small ones. It's just my preference, I guess.

I think about how people lived a hundred years ago , and I use that as a reference for how they lived back then, before electricity was widespread. They essentially had the basic tools to keep them alive. And they were more dependent on skills and knowledge. Prepping for us, was a way of life for them.

When, after my parents visited my moms parents, we used to go to the flea market in Pontiac, MI. They would always get me and later my brother and me cotton candy and my parents bought us American Thunder tshirts I liked the designs on them. I tried to get my dad to buy me some rare Pokemon cards as it way one of the things I was into. I also collected rocks primarily crystals, marble, and fossil and I had some coal I found under my parents modular.

Old hand tools are almost always better quality.
Power tools, especially battery ones from name brands are better every generation.
Companies like Ryobi and Makita, sell all the service parts you need to do your own repairs.
Avoid buying any high capacity battery pack that uses flat Lithium ion cells. They don't even last half as long as 18650 based cell packs and you can't replace the cells !!
Anyone who doesn't shop at Charity stores or Flea markets is wasting LOTS of money !
    Cats for the Win 👍😁

I was going to try and send you a photo if my old hand cultivator but my phone is not allowing me to do that or even copy it to the clipboard then paste in the comments.
It's a 4 tine one with spindly curved tines and leaf like blade with a friction clamp. The company madea 5 tine version as well.
BUT, I'm looking for a beefier more robust 5 tine cultivator that had individual thumb screw to hold down each time. My dad had one that I remember seeing but I can't find it online. It supposedly came with two sizes of handles for it, a long two handed handle and a shorter one handed handle.
The sturrup/hazel/push-pull hoe I got needs a longer handle which i can't find and I've never been able, and don't know how, to make one. The original one split lengthwise.
And my two old old shingling hatchets need replacements but nobody carries them. Found an old time axe head in good shape with a wide blade while metal detecting. Picked up two Plumb axe & hatchet with chewed up handles.
    So, yeah, I need resources.
