  • Video of the maiden flights for the 50mm and 64mm EDF FF-117V2 test planes.
    This is a scratch built RC model inspired and loosely based on the real Lockheed F-117A Stealth Fighter. Some admitted design concessions were made on the RC model versus the real plane, but overall I think it still looks pretty scale when in the air. A few more modifications are needed before the final design and plans are available. Thanks for following rcFoamFighters.

    Love the look of the F 117, such an awesome design. Nice work guys.

      Thanks Mike! Yes the F-117 is one of my favorite planes looks wise. Such a unique design. With a few more minor tweaks I think the design I made should be good.

    Hey your on the other end of the spectrum now lol. We have always concentrated on the fast end. Seems those two are in need of speed.. Good job guys!

      You are correct Gregg, we need more speed, LOL! I think that is why they feel so slow to me is because I usually always fly fast planes. I plan on doing a few more mods to the bigger one. Hopefully I can slide the EDF back a little more. If I can do that then maybe I can get a 6S EDF to work and balance on the CG line. Right now I am having to put the battery closer to the EDF than I want to get the right CG. Maybe with a few cheater holes the EDF will breathe better and give some more speed too.

      @@rcFoamFighters I'm sure you'll tweak it out and pick up a few more mph.

    Wow love the way they look on air want the plans to be available for sale good work

      Thanks Javier Rivera! I think the 50mm version is pretty close and I can probably make plans for it first. The 64mm I want to revise and test a little more before I make the finale plans.

      The 64mm needs more air intake

      @@javierrivera7154 Yes I agree, the 64mm needs better air intake. I will probably add a couple of cheater holes on the bottom and may small ones on the top. I think I need to push the EDF a little farther back in the plane so the thrust tube is shorter. I will try and modify the existing plane and also make a new one.

      Thanks M K. I think the 50mm version is pretty close and I should be able to start on the final plans. The 64mm version needs some more tweaks to get it to fly better. I may even put a 70mm EDF in it instead.. It may also need some cheater holes to breath better...

      @@rcFoamFighters I’ve been working on a compressor wheel edf that theoretically would suck air in harder than an edf, if I get it working I’ll let you know about the airflow qualities

    Here I am thinking how to make it a mid engine or pusher, nice design!

    • @rcFoamFighters
      @rcFoamFighters  3 роки тому +1

      SRGross I originally made this plane as a mid engine pusher prop a few years ago. The pusher prop version does fly with much more power and authority. I just started to work on the EDF version because I've had a bunch of people ask for an EDF version. If you have not seen the prop version, please check out our UA-cam main page. Thanks!

    nice work Frank, the 117 seems to fly very nice, even its not super fast, didnt expected that anyway, but she looks super scale in the air. Im always a little suprised how good the orientation is on this plane, you know almost all black and all but from my chair here ist looks pretty good, even the take off was a bit more exciting than i would hope...i usually programm and launch phase in my controller that gives me a little bit of up trim for the take off...and than switch back to cruise when im up in the air. And if you wanna go bigger i would try 70mm on 4s probably, which is a pretty light setup and give still good power (for an edf i mean), anyway good job, cheers

      Thanks WarbirdFan66! Yes both take offs were a little crazy! The first one my friend threw the plane at too low an angle. The second launch my friend threw the plane a little sideways into the wind. So some torque roll and wind made it roll over pretty good. The all black plane can be hard to tell orientation, I crashed my old prop version because I lost orientation. Thats why I now add the small bright orange stripes to help my getting older eyes, LOL. Thanks for your tips on how you program a take off mode. Oh, by the way I am Paul, with the FF-117's, Frank is the one with the Crazy Twin motor plane.

    Planes look heavy, may need modifications to shed some weight.

    • @rcFoamFighters
      @rcFoamFighters  3 роки тому

      Robert Wong, I do think I need to try and shed a little weight if I can. I think I can trim a little more out of the internal riser plates and a few other areas. I think the 50mm is pretty close and flew better. The 64mm is heavier and I think the Air intakes are more restrictive on it for the size of EDF. I may have to add some cheater holes to let the EDF breath better and give it more power. I think I can trim a little weight off of both with a few tweaks.
