- #boomerang #jet #turbine We Maiden a Boomerang Turbinator 2 aircraft. I didn't check the C of G myself and took the owners word for it and she was extremely tail heavy! Before the second flight we ended up adding about 1 LB of Lead to the nose to get the c of g to the recommended location. Stressful flight!

Thanks for checking out the video! It was a bit of a sketchy flight but we got her down safe, corrected the C of G and had 2 more great flights!
Looks to be a sweet flying model with the COG fixed, and from what you said it was. Seems like a good starter jet probably. Better than spending really big money on a first one, having a ballistic machine first up from electrics or glow powered seems a very big leap while this looks a stable and reasonable sort of cost setup. Very nice.
Nice save on a potentially fatal flight!!!
Thanks! After that the owner added a significant amount of nose weight!
Nicely followed rule nr1 when in troubles: keep flying the plane! Keep the airspeed, be gentle on the controls, stay calm, don't rush the landing. Nice job!
Thanks!
Great explanation with new flight : Happy to see the tail was not overtaking the front thumbs up.
Thank Anthony!
BACK IN 1 PIECE!! LOL. Many tail heavy go home in HEFTY Bags!!! GREAT JOB BRO!!!
Thanks 👍. Oh SO TRUE!
Glad you got it back safely! That landing had my pucker factor up watching you! Glad it got sorted out!
HAHA. Thanks for watching! It was a sketchy landing for sure!
NICE save Johnathan Have done that in the past and over the years got to not trust anything. Check EVERYTHING.
HAHA. Totally! Even when someone says it's good..........Check it!
Like the shape of that jet, well done.
Thanks Johan! It is an impressive little plane! The owner should have ton's of fun with it!
Good piloting!
Thanks!
Second and third flights went way better after I re-balanced it and Jonathan dumbed down the control throws and expo have to add some mixing for the flaps and do some more test flights to get it flying even better. Cant thank Jonathan enough for helping me with the test flights and the turbine what a great little engine
Thanks Joe! You did great on flight #3! It's like you have been doing this for years!
Wow, what a hot landing
Yea! Sketchy for sure! Tail heavy = need to keep the speed up.
Nice job! Enjoying the channel. Only suggestion I have and I see this often at events is not having a fire extinguisher within hands reach on startup. I've seen a number of jets burned beyond repair because it took an extra few seconds to scramble for an extinguisher. Keep up the good work.
we actually had a extinguisher was within arms reach were we did the start up
@@echosmoke Ok, I just can't see it I guess. Congrats on the maiden.
Thanks and thanks for watching! Yea as Joe mentioned there was an extinguisher right out of view. Won't fly without one!
Superb maiden.
Thanks Kelvin
Very good job!
After the takeoff I was a bit hesitant on the cg conclusion, but after seeing those landing approaches I definitely agree.
Love the summary you made. CG affects sensitivity a lot, so be careful tuning rates down too much if also moving the CG forward a fair bit. A more nose heavy configuration will automatically feel a lot less sensitive on the controls. Also agreed on the expo thing. The best setup is simply to get the rates as small as possible while still getting the wanted authority at slow flight, then add the minimum amount of expo required to make those rates feel comfortable.
Thanks. Yea we actually only made minor changes. Aileron, movement adjusted from 100 to 80 in the D/R menu and expo dropped down. Elevator only moved from 100 to 90 in D/R and expo reduced. So not huge changes and second flight was awesome.
@@thelightersideofrc Yeah I bet the CG adjustment made a lot of difference. Just like a nose heavy config can make any awesome model suck horribly, so can definitely tail heavy configs too.
Great pilot skills.
Thanks!
I bet someone's heart jump started there. Glad it worked out in the end.
lol i think my heart skipped a few beats I was nervous just stranding there
HAHA! Joe was nervous before we even started it!
Was the CG off bc of the heavier weight of Swiwin 80 engine. Turbinator 2 recommend 60-70 size turbine.
No not at all. The SW80 is the same weight as the SW60. The owner just didn't check c of g properly.
Well Done , I've seen Tail heavy planes crash with take off.
She was close!😱
Nice to have such a long long runway!
Oh Yea!
... and now you need speed and long runway! 😄😄
Anyway... good job! Good skill and judgement! You gained a follower.. 😉
Thanks Mauro!😎
Nice jet. Always have adjustment after maiden.
Thanks Sunny!
Apparently she flies twice!
😂😎
Thanks for sharing. This explains why my elevator is super sensitive on my 74in Pilot Extra. Tried alot more expo and felt horrible! On Cg it's fine? I'll add some weight to motor box. Oh, Nice landing that ballooning due to tail heavy looked painful!
Yea it's brutal to deal with but if you can keep the speed up and get it down it sometimes works.
Good save, always check if only to pick up on the wingtips been there plenty of times hope the owner got some experience from this. Love the swiwin new 80 light and spollup quickly.
Thanks Mark. Yea if someone say's it's all good, check it again!😂. Such an awesome little engine!
How far off did the CG end up being off? Tail heavy landings are always fun:) Great flying getting her down safely. Seen far too many maidens with bad CG's end way worse.
Thanks! Don't know the actual measurement but we ended up adding about 1 lb of weight to the nose. So it was fairly far off.
@@thelightersideofrc yeah considering that plane weighs about 20lbs total, if I remember right, it must have been! I can only imagine how twitchy it was.
Hello my friend. I can see that you are flying with an Spektrum DX8. I have the same radio and everybody at the club told me that I need a 12+ channel to fly jets. How did you assigned all channels in the turbinator? Looks like great entry level jet.
Hello Ramon. That was my friends plane and radio I was maidening for him. 12 or more channels really is ideal. It can be done with less but requires planning and servo pairing
@@thelightersideofrc thanks for the info. Its better be safe than sorry. Great video bro.
Can't believe you didn't do a CG check before flying it!
HAHA. I'll never take an owners word for it again!
What number was used to set the CG ??
I just purchased a Tubinator 2 no manual in the box. Online showed an old CG of 5 + inches back from the leading edge. I would like to know what you used so I don’t have a test flight for my test pilot with a bad cg !
Thanks so much if you can help !!
👏👏👏
Thanks!
Interested in the blower being used to cool the turbine is this normal
Fairly normal for us. Don't need too but it saves on battery life and I suppose less wear on starter motor.
