Honestly, even Black Space is somehow nice after a couple of play throughs. Nostalgic and melancholic, but also.. strangely peaceful. (Blacker Space doesn’t get the same compliment. It somehow stays absolutely terrifying no matter how many times I see it.)
I hate when people try and say Omori is a “seemingly wholesome game that shocks the player and turns dark” that is not what Omori is. Omori starts out with sunny crying, in white space, you can see the tissue box where omori crys, the disturbing imagery in the sketch book, and the repeating “everything is going to be okay” line in the computer. The game doesn't try to “trick” the player. It isn't some cheap horror game. Its a game about, trauma, grief, guilt, mental health, and self-forgiveness. It doesn't hide what it is
exactly. its not a game that suddenly turns dark and omg!! cz its not its dark from the beginning but its a story about love, forgiving yourself, friendship and overcoming guilt
! SPOILERS FOR ANYONE WHO HASNT PLAYED THE ENTIRE GAME ! also, trigger warning/content warning: Mentions of depression, suicide, self-harm, trauma, DID, mental health, etc. But surely if you've played or watched Omori all the way through to not be worried about spoilers, you don't care about any of those topics and aren't sensitive to them, just have to make sure! Omori is a great game, and it goes onto icky, sensitive topics REALLY well. Omocat broke the effects of trauma and mental health really well! It's shown in a way that's just really comforting! the truth really puts a twist onto the game that nobody is really expecting D: Especially the first phobia segment makes players realise that this isn't just a silly little game with a bit of phycological horror, and Omocat did well with the contrast between the happy indie rpg elements and the scary points of the game, it makes it unpredictable. Yet even in Headspace it still displays phycological horror! "But how would it do that?" Even if Headspace is childish and fun, it's because its Sunny's trauma reaction to Mari's death and what he did. Wanting to go back to before he killed Mari when he was 12 and all of his friends were still friends because he feels guilty. There is so much symbolism in the game, And headspace is essentially sunny protecting himself from "the truth" For example, after the first basil segment where he drops the photo of the broken violin laying at the bottom of the stairs, (This is a memory of sunny, displaying it in a way from basils perspective because he feels guilty that basil involved himself in Sunny's problem) Sunny removes Basil from his dream world to keep himself 'safe' from the truth and remembering what he did. He naturally gets rid of any threats to his safe dreamworld. This is such a real concept that goes uncomfortably deep into the concept of trauma and how certain people will react to it. And in Sunny's case, his reaction is to lock himself a room for four years and create a separate identity and world in his own mind to separate him from the reality of what he did. This even goes into dissociative identity disorder (DID) because sunny has split his personality into two separate people. Sunny, And Omori. As a result of Trauma, he's split himself to, once again, 'protect' himself and forget what he did. And the way the truth is displayed is, in itself, An episode for sunny. He lets himself remember, but there is still a sign of him being reluctant to admit that it was HIM who pushed Marii, who killed her. because 'you loved her, and you killed her' which is what he is subconsciously telling himself to dive deeper into his depression because he doesn't want to get better, because he is already four years deep into this is where he feels home and is comfortable. I know this because it's shown in Basil's perspective, as I mentioned, because he's too guilty to admit that it was him, because that would bring him closure. Closure that it was him. He knows it was him, but there's still obvious signs of guilt, as there always will be, and that won't stop until he feels he's hurt himself enough, either physically or mentally, that he's gotten a "Punishment". And even this results in suicide sometimes. The way it's in basils perspective also displays his guilt. even 'hero loved her, and you killed her' shows this. The crippling guilt of his actions that he'll never be able to forget. Ever. During the truth segment, everyone thinks that basil was just taking photos of the situation, but this is just symbolism as to how sunny thinks basil would've seen it. I've already gone into why this is multiple times. And after the truth segment, the happy memories may be a symbolism of sunny finally letting go of his dream world and alternative personality, Omori, this is because he's finally learnt the truth, there's no reason to keep himself 'safe' anymore. Notice how during this section, you're sunny, and the characters are all their real-world selves, yet you're still in Sunny's dream. Usually, you're Omori and your friends are dream-world coloured in Sunny's dreams, but not this time. He's letting go of headspace, which is a way of him finally healing, and preparing himself to face the real world, which in the good ending, leads to telling his friends! Yet, in the bad ending, the guilt gets the best of his and her jumps. He finishes his life because it's too much. He never let's go of what he has done, unlike the good ending. So, he ends it, by ending it all, killing himself, killing his guilt too, because now he feels unsafe in the dream world, and he has no way to cope with his trauma anymore. Omori is a symbolism of his suicidal thoughts in this ending, he resorts back to his alternate identity because Omori didn't kill Mari. Sunny did. This further provides evidence that Sunny and Omori are NOT the same person. Because of The situation where Mari is killed, because basil put himself into the situation to essentially 'save' sunny from obvious legal actions (its murder, he killed Mari, so he would get charged... obviously) that would take place. Doing this, He gave himself trauma and guilt for Hanging Mari. Though he didn't retreat into his mind like sunny, yet there are signs Basil is schizophrenic. You could argue and say, "he's just hallucinating" but he interacts with this "something". In the good ending, during the sunny and basil fight, the reason basil stabs Sunny's eye out is because he sees the something, and to protect sunny from the unreal, hallucination of his 'something' stabs it, it's not real and it hurts sunny. This is the act of schizophrenic person, that the difference between hallucination and schizophrenia. Hallucination is seeing things, and schizophrenia is interacting with your hallucination because it's so real to you. Sunny will never be fully healed, and he can always cripple himself back into the dreamworld if he has a depressive episode where he crippled back away into his guilt and trauma. The way Omori is displayed in such a seemingly child friendly, happy way, really disguises how openly feral certain points of the game are. Ok im done ranting now, fucking hell that's an essay... Kudos to you if you read that!!!! man, why can't I work this hard in school :( bro if Omori school existed id be getting A+ in every class. But the funny thing is, while Omori can *express* all emotions, he doesn’t actually *feel* any of them. They’re just a useful tool for battle, nothing else. That’s why Omori can’t be scared. Even expressing it would only hurt his ability to do his job.
A detail I saw when I was watching Ranboo’s ‘Omori’ playthrough VOD while looking through the comments pointed out that in the bad ending credits the song ‘My Time’ by Bo en played and it has the word “Oyasumi” popping up throughout the song and “Oyasumi” means “good night” and in the good ending credits the sing ‘Good Morning’ played. I took this as Sunny went to sleep in the bad ending, back into headspace. He woke up in the good ending, the truth was told and he was able to see the sun rise once again, though this time he won’t be so alone. (Also I would give anything to see a music video of ‘Good Morning’’s cover by OR3O and it was basically Sunny talking to Kel, Hero, Basil, and Aubrey on the phone [on FaceTime] and Mari’s ghost is sitting besides him looking at the phone, I don’t care if it isn’t canon compliant, give me my fluff.) Edit: can’t tell if I pointed this out but I did not notice this detail, I saw a comment on Ranboo’s VOD and do not remember who made the comment but I didn’t notice the detail

Also, I saw your plushie animated short on your main channel today, and you'll probs never notice this comment, Jaiden, but it was really good and I would like to see more animated shorts like that to fill in the gap between your actual videos on your main channel
