As long as you feed them, they'll protect your ship in certain situations, presumably on deck attacks. However if you neglect to feed them, they'll attack you instead.

Drae makes a axe...."And finally I get my handy dandy axe!" and we hand over our Royal Courier to our untamed content creator for a hot lap on the open seas. "So we get to go to an island...."
IIRC, the team behind this got together making Rimworld mods. Cool to see their own game getting attention. Btw, it looks like if you feed the crabs they will defend your ship from boarders.

@@PFCIceman Aye, the art style is closer to that. I'd argue that the art is the easiest thing to change though, and gameplay-wise it's less like either game and more like FTL.
