- Did Dennis Haskins learn anything after all those years in fake school? To find out, The A.V. Club met him at Saved By The Max, Chicago’s popular pop-up recreation of Bayside’s favorite diner, where we subjected him to a barrage of Saved By The Bell trivia questions to determine, once and for all, if Mr. Belding knows what’s going on here.

He’s a phenomenal interview. Too many celebrities are too good to remember the details of their own freaking shows!! Much respect for Dennis. He schooled the interviewer which is always entertaining.
Simply six minutes of joy. I'm glad he enjoys being a part of a show I still enjoy watching in my 30s. The Bell is a time capsule of Velveeta and dreams.
Wow, he is an encyclopedia of Saved By The Bell facts. And he's so gracious in being willing to talk about the show in such detail. A lot of other actors would try to change the subject.
Wow, he remembers much more than I thought he would.
i love it how he cares about it and acknowledges it where as the others dont and are like meh when you mention saved by the bell
He also wasn't 14 doing 300 episodes and going to school and through puberty.
Mr B gets an A he remembers so much more then a lot of the other cast does.. That's why he was the principle...😁
He lost weight. He looks great! I loved the way he reprised the line, "Get out of my school, Rod." I also like how he doesn't run away from the show!
Check him out on the sitcom "Malibu, CA" where he plays himself (or a version of himself) in an episode. Great nuanced acting while very different from his Belding character.
The show ran away from him though as he's not in the reboot
I freaking love Dennis Haskins, he's the principal we all deserved and wanted. Long before FaceTime, my friend on a college activities board had him come in as a guest speaker and she called me and got him on the phone. He was so cool, he was impressed I addressed him by his real name instead of Mr. Belding, but he was super appreciative and I think he knows he played a fun role in a lot of 90s kids' upbringings. Great guy!
"Tori ran off with Kevin the robot." I loved that line.
I love how he runs with it and gives off a positive vibe. You can tell he's got fond memories, the character of principal Belding that he played wasn't really ever favourite of mine. But After seeing this interview I must admit I'm now a fan of Dennis Haskins.
I met Dennis in person and he is just as friendly and funny. And infinitely cooler than this interviewer imo.
Never meet him but saw his years ago in Las Vegas on 4th of July weekend at a club hanging out at VIP area with Paris Hilton, her sister, the red hair kid/guy from Unhappily Ever After show and few other people. Paris Hilton got on a mic and introduced him, he waved and that was it.
I met him once and yes, he's a great guy. it was a brief meet for a marine corps charity event that had a few celebrities in attendance and only Dennis Haskins met with every marine, shook our hands, and was the nicest person ever. He will be, and is, missed from the reboot since I suppose he's retired...he needs to get back on the air though, at this time a Mr belding principal would such a hero to many
The get out of my school rod part was hilarious. Love how he remembered that.
I had the pleasure of working with him on a couple of projects - a TV pilot, and a Christmas movie. He is a wonderful and generous man. An absolute pleasure to be around. Such a nice guy!
He lost weight! Looks more like old school Belding! Good job Mr. B!
don't test the skills against Mr. Belding. You're gonna get schooled.
Wow this guy comes off as completely likeable and he has a great attitude about the show, unlike the kids do. He must've realized it was just a meal ticket. Good for him, I hope he gets some decent work in the future.
The show went to sindication and re runs still air now. I bet he still living out of the residuals
@@jorgesjose nope. They don't get residuals only Peter engel. Their last paycheck was in 1992
@@jorgesjose nope. i wish he did when i met him he said he dosent get any money from it
Dennis is a great guy.
He has a great memory. Some actors can't even remember the theme songs to the show they starred in. I wish interviews like this was on the the DVD box sets. I always wish that with every TV series I buy on DVD.
You can tell he watched and still watches the show.
the interviewer never watched saved by the bell since he goofed on 2 question
@@johnwalker2810 Yeah, In season 2 lol. The episode he's talking about is Dancing to the Max and it aired on 08/20/89 as the first episode of the first season of Saved by the Bell.
I remember Dancing to the Max season 1 where the max had the dance contest hosted by Casey Kasem where Lisa and Screech won by doing the sprain.
not sire whey the ineterviewer said is was seasons 2 when it was in season 1 of Saved By The Bell
Dennis did really well handling this interviewer who took his quiz WAY too seriously!
Banging his cards on the table and kept cutting of Mr. Belding. Don't ever cut off Mr. Belding!
The interviewer was exposing him for taking part in propaganda. If you haven't realized it by now, Tell-A-Vision is propaganda.
Man Mr. Belding was amazing I wish I could meet him
What a great guy amazing interview
you've gotta love the fact that because dennis haskins came in as an older actor, he didn't really have to "grow up on tv." and with that, fully embraced his role as mr. belding. and TO THIS DAY, giggles and loves the fact that people still remember him as mr. belding.
having said that, true story... i remember once running into haskins at a restaurant in LA. my girlfriend at the time and i were seated just a few feet from him and a few others at his table. i immediately knew who it was, though didn't want to be that asshole disturbing him as he was eating with a group of folks. well, it just happened that after diner and as we were leaving we see him again in the lobby of the restaurant talking up and chatting another couple. i figured, "he seems cool with it, why not." so i bumped into the middle of their conversation and just said, "just to let you know, i really wish mr. belding would've been my principle," at the same time extending my hand. he shook it and in turn also responded, "everyone tells me that!!!" it was just a really cool moment, but he was super nice!!!!
this man was part of my childhood, and it makes me happy that he continues to embrace it.
He was a mouthpiece for corporations and government.
Wow he has a great memory.
Adrian D. Vine It’s really good! Because a lot of celebrities tend to not remember or maybe want to forget. This is a real treat.
3:44 You can see that its his real laugh in his real show too its the same! The belding laugh.
Dennis was a great guy. He gave a college lecture when I was a student at University of Scranton and the place erupted for him. Over 200 students wanted to get an autograph and picture with him and he was very nice and took one with everyone of us. He also used some Belding references and we all loved it. Super nice guy.
omg that classic mr belding laugh. so awesome.
Best principal ever!
What a sweet man. I love his personality.
Sweet show

Dude is a great interview. It’s great to see how connected he is to his experience on the show(s).
I’m rewatching the entire series on Peacock, so a lot of the stuff asked is fresh on my mind.. and he remembered stuff that I didn’t lol
3:45 the laugh
Dennis Haskins made a cameo appearence on A Nickelodeon Show Called Victorious & it was april fools episode and I think Beck said Mr. Belding!
There was also Rhonda, who took Zack (“Zackey”) to the Ladies Choice dance. --The Zack Tapes
He is one of the nicest people that I have ever met. A down-to-earth, and very real, guy.
Dude, I want Mr. Belding to say to me "My office, now!!". You were so lucky he said that to you man, high five!! lol
He loves being America's favorite principal tho
He seriously is a great dude and was so important to the show.
The guy thought he woulda long forgotten. He remembers like an elephant
Hey hey hey hey hey hey what is going on here?
one too many heys, but I'll give you a(n) hey (A) for effort...
His catchphrase
Dustin Diamond is great to work with hes filming tv commercials for us hope SBTB fans like them
I guess this comment didn't hold up very well. #RIP DUSTIN DIAMOND 2021.
@@a1driver982 he was great to work with. Just before chemo he was planning on moving from FL to film more as he thought he had 5 months to live. I was with him when he passed.
@@InsuranceKing It sucks that he's gone but its awesome that you had some really great times with him. I remember seeing him almost 20 years ago at a Yuk Yuks in Toronto. That was the only time and person I've ever seen do a stand up comedy. I had a great time.
@@a1driver982 I took him on his last comedy tour. The material was mostly about his time in jail. I believe the show you saw he mentioned being the only child Star not to go to jail ironically.
Beldings been binge watching saved by the bell! Hes smashing these answers! Amazing!
He not only knows the answer to the questions but more details about the program.
Dennis Haskins was also in an episode of How I met your mother when Marshall was talking to the judges in order to be a judge himself.
I ❤️ Mr. Belding
That anti-drug episode was hilarious, but it's kind of hard to believe the Big Bopper wasn't a stoner.
I’d sit down and have a beer and talk to this guy about Saved By The Bell anytime. He genuinely seemed to enjoy his time on the show. Has he been integrated into the new show at all? I couldn’t make it past episode 1 unfortunately.
Just gotta love this guy
Technically there’s 99 episodes if you count good morning mrs bliss but also they had the Hawaiian movie that was a movie but eventually cut it into 2 episodes so we have 101 episodes lol
Truly humble man
always fantasized about him being our principal . love the guy
hope u guys do with all characters be awesome he remembers so much i like that
This is awesome. Great clip
This was really funny. I love Mr. Belding.
Haskins is Awesome!
I got one they missed, Needick, the wrestler who was bullying screech until slater saved him at the end and beat him in a wrestling match, great episode, and it helped that needick looked like the blonde kid from karate kid, and owen hart as well, two great heels
Damn didn’t know Leanna creel was part of a Triplett that’s cool
You ask the actors who were 13 during the show what happened in each episode and they're like "Dude. I don't know. I was 13."
You ask Belding and he's like "I was 40. Game on."
Mr. Belding is awesome!
What a legend man so sharp
Screw Slater and Zack, my heart belongs to Belding.
How come they didn't mention Saved By the Bell: The New Class?
I love this.
They were more than extras. They were the class of ‘93
Mr. Belding had the best laugh.
What a great guy :D
Ha! The ending..love it
Me kids have no idea about the awesome shows like this we grew up watching
Tori ran off with Rod Belding.
Whoever said life imitates art or art imitates life, was pretty damn smart!
So urkle was the original screech?
loved jessi hair n uori
Damn Belding knows a lot!!!
A few years ago I was at Harrahs Atlantic City, and who is the guest DJ? yep, MR BELDING!!
That was actually entertaining lol
Wow Kelly!
Dennis Haskins is on top form here.
Belding should have been the superintendent in the new series.
They didn't even give him a cameo in the new show. Surely they could write a scene where Zach needs a pep talk or something.
Mr. Belding puts the pal in principal
90s were the best save by the bell
I met him cool guy
Where did you meet him?
beatuiful. its so cool i got to go the the sbtb popup. so freaking cool
Ohh the nastolgia, I use to watch this show when I was a kid before going to school..
the dance contest with casy kasem was season 1
They were considering good morning miss bliss as season 1
Video is starting. I'm going to ace it.
Whos a better principle belding or skinner????
The Guy From the Movie "Rudy" Interviewing?
It's his actual laugh? WOW
Leanna Creel had a sister or cousin on an episode of Married With Children. No one knows where Leanna went though
