How to Install Subwoofer and Amp In Any Lexus | Car Audio Power
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 жов 2024
- I made this video for basically anyone with a Lexus that wants to install an aftermarket Subwoofer and Amplifier to their stock Lexus, Mark Levinson, or Nakamichi car stereo system. I have a 2006 Lexus GS300 without navigation but the installation will be practically the same for any of you. You can even use this video guide to help you install your sub and amp onto practically any car. I will show you the simplest method available using a LOC (Line Output Converter), which allows you to tap into the speaker wires in your rear deck or factory subwoofer.
Follow the guide and remember that you can ask me questions through commenting. Below I posted the specs of my aftermarket sound system.
Check out www.simplyaddit... for Instant Prices on any type of remodeling project or new construction. You won't believe how simple it is.
It does not matter what car you drive (Lexus, Mercedes, BMW, GMC, Chevrolet, Toyota, Nissan, Acura, Honda, Kia, Hyundai, Dodge, Buick etc.) because if you follow the my installation advice, you will be able to install a sound system into any car.

Best set up I have ever seen man thanks. I'm doing this tomorrow I got 2 12" wish me luck
You're welcome. At first I was a little hesitant to take my Lexus apart, but I did this on Acura's, Ford Probe's, Mazda Millenia's, and even some Chrysler's. It's always the same.
I just saw this vlog. I found it interesting for the Lexus location points. I like/know the coat hanger trick but the battery trick was a genius idea! I would hate to loose the settings. Thanks!
Excellent video man, thanks!!
Now I'm ready to install my sub to my Lexus is250
Great video and thanks but maybe Should have mentioned the LOC device sooner in the video, like the start. Thanks for video
Thanks man! I was actually doing a different job (installing a power inverter) and was having trouble figuring out how to route the wires from the battery. Helped a ton!
+Colin McDonald You got it man!
Nice video. One tip is to use a radio time keeper which just plugs into any auxiliary 12 volt (cig lighter) to keep your settings.
Great video, but my only complaint. The same complaint I have for every other install video. They spend so much time showing how to run and hook up a power line. That's the easiest part and half the video is running the power wire. I'd like to see more of the actual wiring of the amp and explain settings on the amp and what ohms the speaker is. Still gave it a like. The kill switch was a great idea on the remote wire.
The terminals you said you hooked up to your LOC are not hooked up to your LOC, that’s your amp terminals hooked up to your subwoofer. The RCA’s are what’s connected to your LOC which are on the other side of the amp.
He only taps into the factory speaker to get a signal for the Line Out Converter. This does not damage anything. You could use alligator clips as long as you make sure they don't come loose, however this isn't the most ideal method. Soldering is a good idea or you could cut the wire and put in a T-connector.
Love the porn music and the Blair Witch cinematography. :)
+MonsterJam187 seriously.. think I got more dizzy in this than blair witch...
Lol
😂
Great details sir the more info the better thank you 👏
thanks bro. I figured it'll be somewhere right there. now on to my project
Thank you so much for this! I've been looking for a good video like this
Thanks bro I done it after I saw ur video to my IS300
Nice Bro! Glad my video gave you the balls to modify your baby :) Did you see pics of the 2017 Lexus LC?
+Proven Helper: How-to Guides & Reviews yup the lc500 is DOPE
You saved me a whole lot of money and time this video is awesome thank you
+Marcus Mckenzie You're welcome 😎 that's exactly why I post my random diy projects on UA-cam.
Marcus Mckenzie did it work with the wire around the fuse
Rule no 1 install the power wire at the end of ALL connections thank god u used tape to isolate the + wire (remember the whole chassis of the car is - (ground). if these 2 touch each other, they go boom and thank god u installed the original 60A fuse.
Rule no 2 use shrinking tubes not duct tape.
Rule no 3 use smaller fuse on remote (blue) wire.
Rule no 4 explain everything, where did you install amplifier (mount point?) this is the hardest part.
Rule no 5 loose connection at the end (look the remote wire on the amp, copper wire will almost touch the power wire).
and yes i have installed an amp (2 front speakers & 1 rear amp on a 4 channel one).
Cheers! We are constantly learning ;)
Thanks for this video, I am about to install an amp in my GX, and was concerned about. Difficulties with running the wires
EXCELLENT video, THANK you!!! Oh n I loved the "ohhh yeahhh..." lol...
Hello thanks for the install video, i am a little confused. How would the subs and amp know that music is playing, hence them turning on. Don’t you need to wire into the radio? Or was the fuse trick make everything work with each other, thanks
The fuse trick tells the amp to turn on when the car turns on and splicing into the rear speaker wires tells the amp the audio signal to amplify and send to the sub.
How did it sound?
In my 2011 gs350 I found a good remote wire connection on the factory amp in the right floor of the trunk. When you look at the amp, the far right harness has a light green wire. That’s where to splice the remote wire. (Not the dark green, the light green)
What is that wire used for though?
@@Umbrefolfgon it connects to the remote terminal on your amp and tells your amp to turn on when the car is turned on. Though, I found out that the rear deck OEM subwoofer red and white speaker wires actually send a remote turn on signal through my LOC which tells my amp to turn on, along with providing the audio signal. Kinda weird but it works. Red is positive 👍
@@theduderness Weird that it would do that. Still interesting. Thanks for the heads up friend.
Come back to post
Omw tnx I tried everything this was the best video ten stars
Thanks for commenting! That's how I make all my videos. You should check out my channel.
Clean AF. Hell yeah bro 🤙
I am a 2006 Lexus GS 300 owner and liked what I saw.
I do have some input to your video.
Please edit you video before doing any upload.
I like the way you are explaining of what you are doing almost to the fullest, but all the blurriness and out of focus plus panning is giving me hard time to follow what is going on. :)
Don't get me wrong,
Many times just using stills can make a huge difference.
Always disconnect the negative and preferable the positive poles at the battery, before any electrical work.
If you are afraid of losing "memory setups" in the car while working, use a fully charged MC battery (less amps) as a backup not a battery-charger. The amps (not amplifier) out from a charger can do damages to the electrical in any car.
I am also to change from stock to aftermarket. That is the whole sound-system.
However, the installed stock hard-wires may not be compatible with after-market sub and amplifier. This after negotiating with four independent pro-installers (aftermarket) and also Lexus head quarter "experts".
The deck where the sub is installed may have to modified depending on the new speaker bolt pattern. I prefer to have my sub flush with the deck.
With respect!
I didn't plan on making the video, it was a last minute decision. At that time I didn't have half the equipment I have today. You should check out some of my newer 1080p Lexus Maintenance and Upgrade videos to see what my new videos look like.
07 GS350. Good video. Covered every step. Just one question, what do I do about the extra power and ground cable on my LOC? Looks like yours are taped together.
helpful video ! , (watched in interest of a 2007 lexus ES 350 sub hookup i’m anime to come upon)
For the most part you did a pretty decent job, for as the remote wire that's iffy. you should mounted your fuse somewhere nice and tucked in and mounted your amp to the back seat where your wires are hidden and not exposed
I don't think he asked dude
@@Hunter-cr2qw he didn’t have to ask fella why are you replying to on my comment anyway. Get the fuck on dude
I drive a 1998 Lexus ES300 and I am trying to install a Sub with an Amp to the radio without taking apart the dash and all that jazz. This video clearly explains how to safely hook up the amp to the sub and the battery, but I am having trouble figuring out how to hook up all of this to the stereo itself. Of course I am new to this whole thing so if you could let me know how I could go about this, or if it is even possible to hook that up without taking apart the dash, that would be greatly appreciated. Also, I have not attempted to set up the sub yet because I would like to know how to do it before I try it.
+Tad and Lew's Reviews in this video he taps into the signal to the sub using an LOC - line output converter.. the best way though is to use a digital integration module.
Is your battery on passenger side? Mine is on driver side
A great how to video and the only one that I have seen that instructed you who to tap into the rear speaker using a LOC connected to the amp. I was also puzzled as to why you didn't use both rear speakers, but your explanation suffices. I will now install my infinity powered subwoofer into my Chrysler 300C with confidence.
OEM radio might cut the subwoofer frequencies before sending them to speakers. For example having HPF at 40 or 60 Hz. So what are you trying to accomplish here? You cannot extract frequencies that do not exist in the signal.
What up bro, 1st wanna say good look on all of your DIY's for the gs"s!!! On the connection to the factory sub this does not make any cliping in the system? Im installing a sub in my 2011 this weekend so just wondering
+cheadai No clipping over here.
A nice vid a how do I know which is positive and negative were you tap in to get the RCA signal what's the battery trick? Thumbs up man
extremely valuable info man! learned something new! One question tho! What if i just want to make the stock AMP stronger?
+Rob Styles it matters what amp u got, 1990 through 2004 they used Nakamichi amplifiers then changed to mark levinson. both u can't modify unless
+TheImmortalMoonLion so in conclusion, sorry no way to make amp stronger if u got stock
+Rob Styles Usually things don't work like that bro. To get louder sound you have to buy aftermarket amps and speakers. The factory speakers and amps are maxes out already.
I'm glad my battery is already in the trunk. That'll save a good amount of time.
+ytmndan What car is that?
+Proven Helper: How-to Guides & Reviews most likely not a lexus, but i could be wrong
a german car 100%
I knew it
instead of wrapping a wire around a fuse, go to the amp on the right hand side of the truck, and disengage the middle wiring harness from the amp, and the light grey wire is the amp turn on wire, or just test the lead with a meter. i use this in my lexus gs, running a mmats amp and jl subs
Good to know, but everything is still working all these years later without any issues.
Yes but my speaker is dual voice coil which basically makes it like a two speaker setup because it has two sets of wires. But technically speaking when you are setting up a subwoofer for bass, you only need to run it to one speaker and double up the wires from the LOC because bass is not directional, that's why you have mono block amplifiers. #caraudio
So that red power wire came with the new sub/amp? It wasn't already in the car?
WAS your rear factory speaker in the back deck bridge down Or were they running separate From the factory radio.when you connected your speaker wires to them.
do you have a wire diagram of the speaker connection because i also have 2 connections on my stock subwoofer..thanks
Does this method work on a wave runner, or a bulldozer? I Don't have a car but drive my bulldozer everywhere if I'm not smuggling drugs off coast of Florida with my wave runner
Does the factory subwoofer still work to? I have a 08 is250 that im thinking about putting a subwoofer in
don't run the power wire and rca in one lane it will cause noise
Yes, especially if they are cheap unshielded RCA wires.
@@TeksTherapy no point in using RCA just for a sub, just hook into a rear trunk speaker using speaker level inputs on the amp.
Research and Build how do you hook up amp without rca??
Best advice
@@researchandbuild1751 not every amp has speaker level inputs.
I have Lexus RX450H 2010 and my amplifier is dead and I need to replace it a new one. I watched your video and it has in courage me to DIY. I have question, if am going to replace it with he same model of my old amplifier, do i need factory setting. I am afraid that when I pulled it off and put new one and it doesn't work as it need might need setting code from Lexus. Any helps appreciated
The factory amplifier in my 2006 Lexus GS300 is in the trunk, underneath a small compartment panel on the right hand side. I don't think swapping out the amplifier requires any type of ECU programming. However, my sister just bought a 2015 Nissan Rogue and had to change one of her headlights, and apparently you do have to program it to the car, unless the dealer fed her lies. #RX450H #Lexus #Amplifier #NissanRogue
awesome video, I don't have a Lexus but really good info
Hi, I have a 2005 lexus Gx 470 - radio is dead - most sites say its the amplifier (which if its gone is $600+). I also want to get a bluetooth connection. So, what do you recommend? Is there a replacement for the Mark Levinson radio/nav unit?
did you ever find the replacement parts just curios
you are my best friend , thanks for video
+Rojus Ausiura You got it!
the negative post should be on when playing with 12 volt, ground is only suppose to be 18 inches long. fuse is installed last, remote wire goes to ignition.
My ground is short and I agree that the fuse should be installed last. I missed that in editing. When I remake this video installing my new system, I'd like to hear your thoughts again. Thanks.
An LOC simply allows you to tap into your factory speaker wiring when you are trying to connect an aftermarket amplifier to a stock radio. If you had an aftermarket radio, you would just run RCA's from the radio to the AMP. The LOC allows you to run RCA;s from the LOC to the AMP. What do you mean by multiple speakers?
You can use this for any car but thanx for the help!
thanks for it...
From Québec!!
Thanks Eric. Back then I recorded the amplifier and subwoofer installation using my iPhone. My newest videos are much better! #caraudio
Thx for the video- we’ll done. Hey, does the RX400H Lexus have an RCA female; (sub preouts) to connect to the amp?
Does that cigarette lighter set up last and what settings get resetted when you unhook the battery
I have a question the previous owner had a sound system on my IS250 but he took everything out and just left wires. But now when I try listening to radio it sounds all staticky, or just cuts out and you can only hear the back tweeters. I need help figuring this out.
As for me I always connect the red wire (power)from battery LAST or just make sure there is no inline fuse while you doing the amp connection.. just to avoid any short circuit..😉
I check the wires before I connect amps. Installed about 10 -15 amps in my day. Just have to be focused on what you're doing.
On my LOC it has left and right wires does that matter? I know you said Blue and Red wires were positive but which is left and which is right?
I connected the LOC wires together . Left + with right + and same for the negative
got a picture im on that phase right now
What if it has a stock amp ?? What do you do then??
Hi I have a 04 ES330. The only thing I need to differently is that I don't have an additional sub I only need to install an amp to replace the factory that went out. It seems to have run the 2 back door speakers and of course the rear deck sub. I want to do the same to get an after market sub that I can wire to allow the rear door and sub to work.
Let me know what you think I will have to do different.
Thanks
Well you will have to wire your rear door speakers and your deck sub to the amp. You might need a 4 channel amp to do this and run two channels as left and right for the back door speakers and bridge channels 3 and 4 to run the deck sub. Take your time and you will figure it out.
amp
channel 1 left speaker out
channel 2 right speaker out
channel 3 positive to deck sub
channel 4 negative to deck sub
Read the instructions to your 4 channel amp to get the wiring diagram.
#caraudioinstallation
Also factory speakers are usually in non typical ohm ratings. This could get confusing for someone that doesn't know how to convert the ohms properly. You can try finding the factory amp on Ebay, or calling www.crutchfield.com/ and asking one of their tech's for advice. You should also check every single fuse in your car visually for breaks. There's a strong possibility that you blew the fuse to the rear audio of your car.
NICELY DONE!
Thanks man1
i have a 98 gs300 and i am currently putting subs in my car and using the loc...connecting the loc to the stock sub wont be bad being that its using the stock amplifier it wont interfere with the aftermarket amp for my subwoofer ?
+Wilmer Valladares It's safe because the loc simply allows you to tap into actual speaker wires and outputs only the audio signal to the RCA jacks; which you will connect to your new sub amp.
You have to duy tripod or any holder for recording your video cause i watch onlu shaking things...
This doesn't seem to work on 2007 lexus gs350. I got to the panels next to the rear seat, but they won't come out, because they're attached to the airbag. Not sure what to do about it, but I'll figure something out
I drilled a hole in the trunk pass through at the bottom then tucked the wires in between the seat cushions leading to it. Into my 2011 gs350. Ran into the same airbag issue
@@theduderness
I ended up taking the entire rear seat out, and running the wires behind the seat trunk door thing, and behind the carpet lining. It worked well, and I'm now banging 2 12"s on 1500 watts
Yeahhh I didn’t feel like taking the seat out haha.. but my cop out method worked well. There’s no visible wires unless the rear armrest is down, in which case you can see 3 inches of power wire feeding through the hole I drilled. Makes it easy to change wires though when I decide to put more power and run 1/0 wires. I also found out that somehow the rear deck OEM subwoofer speaker wires send a remote turn on signal to my LOC and then turns my amp on. 🤷♂️. Spent an hour finding a remote wire connection for nothing lol
@@theduderness I only used 4 gauge. But after I ran my power wire, I put everything back together, and 3 days later ended up taking the seat back out for my remote wire. So now I'm a professional 3gs seat remover
Did you upgrade your display screen? I noticed it's different from the typical 2006
+kingstonwaterloo Nope. In what way is it different.
How did you bypass the factory amp.
WITH THE RCA'S IF YOU LEAVE THE STOCK HEAD UNIT IN THEN U HAVE TO BUY A GOOD BRAND HIGH-LOW CONVERTER…. IF YOU PUT IN AN AFTERMARKET HEAD UNIT THEN U RUN THE RCA'S FROM THE HEAD UNIT TO THE AMP which is better signal..
Keith please stop typing in all caps. It's hard to read. If you're using the amp to power subwoofers, you don't need to go crazy and simply use a LOC that you can tap into any speaker like I did in the video. My system works perfectly, no whine & no distortion.
how do you know for sure what polarity each leg of the subwoofer is? did you find a diagram or did you use the battery trick?
Nice catch Mike! I actually did the battery trick because I had no clue.
@@TeksTherapy How do you do the battery trick?
People do not run power wire through rubber gromment, not professional at all. @ 6:15 People TAKE THE FUSE OUT. The fuse is the LAST thing you install. @ 7:57 People dont wrap your remote wire around a fuse, do it RIGHT and not be lazy and pull the radio out and find the correct switched wire with a multimeter. While you have the radio out install the LOC behind the radio, so when you do upgrade to aftermarket cd player rca's are already there (think ahead).....................Just a lil helpful hints maybe not the easy way but without a doubt the TRUE CORRECT and PROFESSIONAL way.
delon thompson so putting the wire around the fuse will work ?🤔
delon thompson hey so should I put the fuse back in after I connect the negative terminal and everything? Usure the car won't burn down? Sorry trying to install amp in my car atm
Where do you run the power wire through, if not through the rubber grommet on the fire wall?
@@MrAllie-bf6zt some people like running it underneath the frame of the car and then routing it into the trunk especially if you are running some thick 0 guage wire...which makes sense...all the combustibles are in the car inerior

Hey I was wondering, instead of soddering the speaker wires to the factory sub would I be able to use alligator clips and clip it on to the connection points? thanks
Lots of people complaining about how shaky the camera is but just think how hard it is to film and do the installation at the same time.
+Won Ton Thanks. I'm going to redo this video one day and make it much better.
I appreciate the time you took to go step by step. I wanted to ask, did this aftermarket amp replace the stock amp? I’m pretty sure the stock amp has failed. Could I just replace the original with an aftermarket to power the radio and speakers?
he used both, which is why he left the stock one connected but you can run the new sub by itself thats what im doing
Hey man does the remote wire go in the back of the the car stereo/headunit...i brought a full sony 1000w amp an a 1800w sub with pioneer headunit an theres a long black wire like the blue one never installed subs an cant find a video thats goes into depth about conecting the sub wires an the remote wire ect
+DJY Motor Media Look up the manual to your products online if this video doesn't help you.
I'm guessing you are keeping the factory radio cause LOC is useless with aftermarket headunits. Aside from the great video
Omg, I stopped watching purely because the video is so shaky.
holy shit I thought I was Michael j fox for 10 min. filming 101, Don't shake the damn camera!!!!!!!!
What about the stock amp.. Am i risking the safety of the amp?
wire the power wire to the fuse box... you will get much better results... and it looks more professional
+Blondish Ginger say what? lol.. that's not professional at all. Then you're relying on the gauge of the factory wiring to support another 500-1000 watts or whatever. Wire directly to the battery and don't listen to people trying to spread their ignorance.
Great video
I was wondering if it would be okay to install 2 12 inch kickers with a 1000 watt sony Xplode amp into a 2012 CT200h?? the reason I'm hesitant to do so is because the car is a hybrid? or like what other people call it "a nice prius" hahaha but anyways I'm scared since its a more electronic vehicle the subwoofers can basically kill the battery or even worse the car? some feeback would be greatly appreciated!! :D
Would this method work on a 58 Desoto?? 🤔
To save the settings you're going to need a 9V. Battery and a cigarette lighter adapter. Wire the battery to the cigarette lighter adapter and plug in...
just asking for trouble with that battery jumper cable hooked up during the install
Everything worked out fine, it's been years and I actually upgraded my amplifier and subwoofer since then.
I'm having trouble hooking up the LOC to the stock rear subwoofer. Please help. I have the socshe LOCs2l brand.
No problem, can you tell me the trouble? Maybe post a photo on Instagram or Twitter, or better yet, make a quick youtube video and talk me through it. In general you hook up the negatives together and then you hookup the positives together. Since locs can do left and right, you might need to double up the +'s and -'s on the loc if you only plan on using one rear speaker input. I used 4 inputs because I have a dual voice coil factory subwoofer, as seen in the video.
how do i install the LOC on a stock 2000 Lexus Rx300
i like it,,,,if u upgrade vedio ,will be much better,,,,,,,,,i like ur job
Thanks, I taped this awhile ago, I think I used an iPhone 4s. Since then I bought myself a professional camera, so my newer videos are much better. I actually did a newer video on my brother in-laws Buick Lacrosse.
Nice video, works well for the non ML Lexus.
The issue with the Mark Levinson stereo is the DSP used as part of the "premium" surround sound.
Tapping into only one of the bass sources (door woofers are a better source than the back deck sub in my exp) is the signal is not the full low-end you would get out of a normal stereo (where bass I produced in a mono).
It will work tapping just one speaker line, you just wont get the fullest bass.
Informative Video though! Thanks for making it.
hey 10 years later… i’m installing aftermarket subs and amp into my 2007 lexus lx470 mark levinson. my loc rear speaker wire i have connected to the factory sub wires it goes from four wires into two which is a positive and negative for factory subwoofer. anyways i have the 4 wires which are positives and negatives for my right and left rear speaker wire from loc respliced with the 4 positives and negatives for each voice coil subwoofer wire. it doesn’t produce sound gojng to sub so you know anything?
Weird question but Could you send Me the music you used in this video?
What if I want to add a capacitor and bass knob? You have a video for that?
Hey man quick question what gauge is the spade crimp connector you put on the remote wire that you connected to the amp? Thanx in advance
You are supposed to disconnect the negative so you won't have a hit wire when you connect the power cable for your amp
the friggen power wire is probably stiff enough to not have to use the coat hanger. Next time use the coat hanger to hang up your fubu Jersey.
I accidentally got the power and ground mixed up.. it sparked then stopped working is there anyway I can fix it.
Yikes. Hopefully you only broke a fuse. Check your AMP fuses and the fuse holder on the positive wire. Let me know how it goes.

Putting the remote wire in the fuse box puts an unsafe load on it and will result in car computer damage, monitor failure or blowing other fuses, always run the remote wire to a dedicated remote on the radio or the acc wire on the factory wiring harness.
