At 5:50 Steve bites Carol's earring off and spits it half way across the room when she says the word 'husband'. This was NOT in the script but a great Steve Lawrence improv. He LOVED LOVED LOVED doing Carol's skits. When a show was running long and they were going to cut out a skit of his he begged them to cut one of his songs and keep his skit.
Carol Burnett came along at just the right time to tear into these old movies. I'm not sure people under a certain age would get the full impact of just how well she sends up all the golden age actresses.
Carol went to the same Middle School as my dad many yrs after my dad "Joseph Le Conte" at 1315 N Bronson Ave, LA, Hollywood since 1922, 'actor Jason Robard was a year ahead of my dad at Le Conte
The old Hollywood movies were shown for a long time on German television. Some of them are timeless works of art and some age fast. But these exaggerated emotions and rather simple stories are familiar.
Mr. Lawrence you were like part of the regulars on Carol Burnett. also a great singer. My condolences to you and your son on the death of wife and mother Eydie Gorme, one of the greatest singers of all-times. Your Latinos and English fans will miss you.
Double Indemnity is my favorite movie, and I love Carol, so this is a no-brainer. Carol's wig fits and looks MUCH BETTER than that atrocity Barbara Stanwyck wore. Vicky Lawrence is a pisser!
My son had to watch "Double Indemnity" for school last night and I remembered watching this as a kid because my mom loved the Carol Burnett show. Carol looks more fetching than Barbara Stanwyck.
I read recently that the blonde wig that Barbara Stanwyck wore in the movie was purposefully unkept. Billy Wilder requested that it look that way to emphasize the "sleazy phoniness" of her character.
Decades back, they had a showing of Bob Mackie's costume work at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC. Not only his work with Burnett, but for Cher, and a lot more. The Wife and I went to the show, HOPING that the "window dress" from "Went" was included. It was. We were happy.
5:28 A hand reaches in and puts a lamp down on the table in the back. Now, I've always wondered about this; if someone had neglected to put it there before recording began, why not just leave it off, seeing as how it wasn't at all germane to the plot? The mysteries of T.V. 🙂
You have to admit the fact that they went ahead and finished the sketch despite the earring being blown off by accident! Those kind of things happened all the time on Carol Burnett and I sometimes think they handled those flubs better than they ever did on SNL! For all the talk about the humor being more square on Carol Burnett, a lot of the stuff on SNL has dated far worse and frankly it isn't funny unless you're 10-years-old or stoned. Honestly, the edited "Best of SNL" syndicated specials are a LOT better than the original uncut versions of the original episodes including stuff during the first five-year run of SNL. P.S. -- on second thought, I guess they did plan for Walter to eat the earrings after all...
I didn't catch why they added he lamp during the skit. The camera was directed straight at the table, and you can see the stagehand's hand place the lamp and push it over. I thought maybe that was intentional, but it never repeated itself, nor did it tie in.
The fact that YOU don't know the great Eydie Gorme doesn't mean she is or was unknown in England. You, on the other hand, are totally unknown HERE. Probably a blessing. (Yeah I know: an incomplete sentence.)
If there's a legal reason, it may be rights to some of the songs performed in the musical numbers. It could also be some of the episodes no longer exist, or are in poor shape. I could also be they don't think anyone would buy all of the, Time-Life is releasing a very large selection, tho.
Does anyone know the name of the elderly lady actress in this skit? I have Googled everything I can think of and goose eggs! She was a character actress who's face I recognize but I want to know her name! Help!😂❤😊
Hey Walta....whatcha doing, putting on your clothes and then takin a shower? Looking for a cheap way of doin'' the laundry? (Listen to his description of how he started the day. "Dressed, took a shower...)
@@lisaaugustin5400it was one purpose, to show she didn't have any class or taste, even though she thought she was the bomb ,and because her husband was a older man and in his old eyes she was hot stuff.

Steve Lawrence had primarily been known as a crooner when Carol invited him on her show .He revealed himself to be a pretty good comedic actor 👍
"Pretty good?" Brilliant, I'd say! 🙂
'Steve Lawrence was naturally good a comedy & a Helluva singer like His soulmate, Eydie Gorme
But he had done extensive work as an actor on the stage prior to this.
Whenever Steve Lawrence was in an episode, it was almost guaranteed to be a good one.

That seems unlikely, given that Carol didn't break up, especially when it happened again later.
Every time I see Vicky Lawerence do her bit about Nino Zaparetti I’m on the floor , that’s perfection.
*"You might think I'm just an overly emotional adolescent, but I'm not, I'M not, I'M NOT!!!"*
“Could I be of some OUCH!....some help?” Lmao 😂
The costumes are hilarious. Mackie is brilliant.

Omg I love Double Indemnity. N this parody is so brilliant. Such a pleasant recommendation 😂
I love Vicki's performance in this.
I'm sick of it, do you hear me?? Sick, sick, sick, sick, siiiiiccccckkkk!!!!
Isn't she precious?
~ love the rattling Ankle Bracelet ..fab !
I was so sad in 1978 when the Carol Burnett Show ended.
My favorite comedy show at 11 yrs old in 1972. Me and my friend tuned in at 10pm Saturday nights.
Steve Lawrence was fabulous in this!
I love the parody on the old movies! Steve had some inches to those heel s on his shoes.
Double Indemnity is my favorite movie, and I love Carol, so this is a no-brainer.

Whoa! Steve Lawrence here reminds me quite a bit of Robert Redford.
Whoa!....must be the fedora..his jawline... The Sting. Sure does look like him.
Vicky & Harvey are especially funny in this skit 🎭

Double "Calamity". Love it
Those poor earings never get a break, do they?! 😂😂😂
I read recently that the blonde wig that Barbara Stanwyck wore in the movie was purposefully unkept. Billy Wilder requested that it look that way to emphasize the "sleazy phoniness" of her character.
Double Indemnity was her best 📽️ and should've won the Oscar for it!
I watched it last Saturday at our library film series !! Good as ever !!!
"Mr Leff...Right" (LOL)
Hilarious! N kudos to steve lawrence he wd have been terrific in film noir....entire cast great. So funny...i cd skip my prozac😂😂😂💊
Comedic genius!
Laughing out loud..
I love when his spits out her earing 5:40
I'm sorry, I lost it when he spat out her earring when she mentioned her husband!!!!! I'm still laughing......
Check out the hand slipping the lamp on the table at 5:30
Crazy for Film Noir speak.
It goes to my head in a big way 😂
Another of my favorite spoofs from Ms. Burnett and company . . . yet the one most famous is "Went With The Wind!" which is no slouch either . . .

Mr. Left.
Right
LOLZ
I think the name was Mr. LEFF.
Aha! A classic Burnett trademark: the "Seductive Woman Dueling Eye Widening" at 3:30.
I'd buy them, I'd pay a good price for season 11 especially.
If he was good enough for Carol, then he's good enough to Cher.
@5:29-30 YOU CAN SEE THE CREW PUT A LAMP ON THE TABLE BEHIND THEM
BWahaha.....isnt is great?
Why can't all 11 seasons of The Carol Burnett Show be released to the public?
TeamJRob time life has a box set (on Amazon) if it's not out of print.
Genius murder for love💞
Barbara was not miscast it was a hit and billy wilder loved her in it
Billy Wilder was a FOOL !!!!

Basically, most of them have been released except this great show. Sure, people will always watch new shows.
cool
Nobody does parody quite like Carol Burnett.
That set really looks like thomas magnum's apartment.
It totally does!!!!

I wished she had come up with a real Barbara Stanwyck impersonation for this one, like the ones of Bette Davis and Joan Crawford.
I wonder, did Barbara Stanwyck say anything about this skit ?!!
Carol had a rocking bod

Watch at 5:34 where the stage hand puts a lamp on the table behind the couple...
that was funny as never noticed when I watched the show back in the day. How I missed it no idea. So obvious lol
Actually, if you look closer before, the lamp was actually put ON the table O.o
The old janitor looks like Whit Bissell
do you think that if all the great shows from the past were released on dvd as a whole that anyone would watch the GARBAGE thats on now?
Yes they probably would unfortunately.
How did we go from Carol Burnett to pedantry in two comments?

Carol Burnet very talented where is she today?
gloriana Franco makes appearances now and then
