Very good build. I have a ShopSmith 510 as well and while I use my Jet JWTS table saw for most cutting, I use my ShopSmith for drilling, sanding, bandsaw and of course the lathe. Awesome tool!
Thank you for taking the time to put this project together, as a visual aid it provides so much more than a few pictures to look at. I like the modifications you've suggested and will definitely consider using them as I proceed to put my cabinet together. Most importantly, your explanation and straight forward approach to delivering your message is clearly articulated and demonstrated so Thank you once again for a great video, it's awesome!
I just purchased an incra LS system with JessEM lift and JessEm router - but decided not to plunk another few hundred dollars on the table, which I find overpriced. So I decided to make my own. I will be using bunch of angle iron from bed frames, which were free, plus I have plenty of wheels from discarded shopping carts. Also got a welding machine to weld the base. Your video on making your incra cabinet helped me a lot. This video also helped me, because I was curious to see how would one 'retrofit' a cabinet with drawers into an existing table made out of metal. These two videos helped me decide how to go about it. Your videos are clean, concise with few tricks thrown in here and there (very useful for beginner woodworker) and your video angles are good. You speak slowly for folks to understand and most of your videos have good sound. Thank you kindly for inspiring me about how to go about building this (and also about buying the incra LS system, from your other video comparison of incra vs kreg. I agree, it's hard to compare incra!)
Thank you for watching and one bonus is when building your own table and cabinet your get exactly what you want. Sounds like yours will be very sturdy with the angle iron. When you finish it I would love to see it. Just email me some pics to backyardwoodshop@gmail.com.
Thanks so much for this. Very helpful ideas for the modifications and also the practical assembly. I just bought this table system yesterday and had no intention of adding a cabinet.... I do now.
Nice! When you designed the pull out bit shelves/drawers without the bearing slides, I was thinking WHAT THE HECK! But once you put it all together and gave a demo, I completely get it and think it's an AWESOME idea!
Thanks for the video! Hey, I have had my Shopsmith since 1987 and it’s still going strong 31 years later! Just added a vintage Shopsmith band saw last month.. I love it!
Nice ideas. I've got the Kreg router table, and this will be a terrific upgrade. Easy access to router bits and router table tools; priceless. Terrific Video, thanks.
My kreg router table with all of the accessories and router lift comes in today and so glad I came across your video. As a new woodworker, I am finding a lot of videos that are either fluffed up or just missing good information. I am definitely subscribing to your channel and looking forward to watching more as well as doing my own kreg router table cabinet setup!
I really enjoyed watching your build. It inspired me to make my own and was very helpful as I worked thru the project. You did such a nice job. I also like how you mounted the switch high. One thing I missed seeing was how you plumbed the rest of the dust collection system. Thank you for the video.
Roger James thanks for the watching and the comments, I used a T fitting from rockler that's a 4 inch main and a 2.5 t off to run a hose up to the fence. Hope that helps
Very nice. Not sure why you thought to not show how you did everything. I enjoy watching everything because I lack the imagination of certain things and find it easier to learn from woodworkers such as yourself. I just bought this complete setup a week ago. Everything is still in the box due to my not having any time to put it together. I will get to it eventually.
Thom: Thanks for sharing your ideas and knowledge. I just picked up the Kreg table and was thinking about how to set it up. Thanks to your excellent video, I have it all figured out now. Keep up the great videos! Best regards, Ron
Nice job on the router cabinet Thom.I like the alteration you did concerning the router bit storage. It makes better sense to me.I look forward to seeing newer videos from you.Take care.
Really like the drawer modification you did here. Not only does it reduce the cost of hardware, and amount of materials of the cabinet it more functional! I've been planning to make this and will definitely use your modifications.
Very nice cabinet, well thought out and presented. I really appreciate the straight forward method of your videos and the common sense approach you take to your projects. Love the idea of mounting the on/off switch, and dadoes for the drawers for the bits. Both of those ideas are better than the Kreg plan and I plan on incorporating these ideas in my cabinet. Please keep up the great videos !!
i really like the way you did the drawers i havent had time to build mine yet and now im glad after watching your vid , i was too cheap to buy the switch so i just cut the back out of a gang box and put a plug on the backside and a light switch on the front side of the same box it was a tight fit but works great thanks for taking the time great vid
Nice video. I was just thinking about that space and what I could do with it. Not sure if I will build this cabinet but it sure was a helpful video to give me some ideas. Thanks for sharing.
wow, that looks great thom! good idea for those slideout trays for bit storage, and really like that pegboard on the side. also really liked how you mounted the on/off switch up top in a safe place. thanks for the video!!
Fantastic Job! I love the idea of moving the power switch and using Dado's instead of drawer slides. I'm in the process of building this and will definitely be using those ideas. Thanks again!
Thom, I'm thinking about buying the Kreg and saw your video. I was concerned about not having dust collection below. This is really a cut way above most of the "how to" videos out there and I really like your ideas. Well done, I'm subscribing!
That's a really well thought out design you have there Thom. I installed an old Wolfcraft cast aluminum table router in the end of my tablesaw which frees up some of my shop space. However, since I attach my router fence to the tablesaw fence setups of depth of router cut on a horizontal plane are proving to be a real pain. I'm looking at purchasing one of these Kreg tables and like your setup. Will probably follow your lead on this one.
Great video, I was looking for info on Kreg PRS3000 Precision Router Table Lift, I have it with the Kreg table and I think I will do exactly what you have done ....thanks for taking the time to share your build with us :)
It's been a lot of years since you made this vid, and unfortunately, I can't find the plans you referenced in this video. This by far is my favorite take on building out the kreg router stand. I'm finally getting one myself, my first router table ever.
Fbtool, Thanks for watching and Subscribing. I appreciate your kind words, The Kreg table is very accurate with a lot of features I'm really enjoying using it. I would recommend it to everyone.
Thom I liked your Router Table. My router table is come next week. I can't wait to finish it with the cabinet. I to am a Shopsmith owner (20 + years). Thanks for sharing.
Great video & nice design. I ended up making one myself. After getting it in the table & thinking about making the small drawers. I decided just to make the bottom 1 large drawer because the 2 seemed too small for my hands.
Hi Thorm, Thanks for the top video. I have watched it several times and I like the changes/inovations you made to the draw slides (K.I.S.S.) by not using slide mechanisms and the rear mounted switch. I now have the Kreg table and will shortly start building the cabinet. The only thing I will do differently is the dust collection. There is an improved version on utube that uses a baffle that causes the dust to fall down a sloped baffle through the stream of dust extraction air and then through a chamber that narrows towards the 4" dust outlet. It seems to be very efficient at removing the chips. All the best. Jeff
Thanks for watching and your comments, I will have to find that video on the dust collection and check it out. My system works fine but does leave chips in the corners.
+thom rider Hi Thorm, sorry for my oversight, I should have included the sorce of the idea for improving the dust collection box. It was put up by geoffr123 and is the"New Yankee Workshop S15E1 #0301 Delux router station". The info is at around the 16 min mark in the video and I believe it is one of the better solutions to increasing the amount of dust collected under the table. I think little piles of chips in corners will always be a present. all the best. Jeff
Great job. I like how you give credit where credit is due (both to Kreg and Shop Smith) but also look for ways to give us some customized idea suggestions. You explain thing well and keep things simple. Thank you.
Thom - great video - thanks for producing it. I will be taking possession of a new Kreg router table tomorrow; already have a new, unboxed Incra lift and a new, unboxed Porter Cable 892 router. Hoping all will fit together as nicely as your stuff appears to. Jim Bennett
+Jim Bennett, thanks for the compliments, and I'm sure all your components will fit together without issue. You'll really love your new setup. I use mine all the time. Enjoy!
Got a question for you - I see that you installed a 4 inch dust port on the back of the cabinet. The Kreg fence has a 2-1/2 inch port on the back. How do you use the two of them? Do you have a "Y" adapter with two different sized hoses coming off of it?
Thanks for making a truly informative and straight-to-the-point video Thom. I really enjoyed watching how you changed up the Kreg plan a bit and also how you explained why you made the changes you did. I especially liked the mounting system for the switch...brilliant idea to put it where it is easiest to get at. Would you by chance know the manufacturer and item number of the router bit you used for the door panels? I know there are probably hundreds out there that are similar, but I really like that look. I just bought the entire Kreg Precision Router Table system last week (table top, fence, stand) and Woodcraft threw in the switch, casters and insert ring set for free. I also picked up the Kreg precision lift. Assembled it all yesterday...now I just need all this Wisconsin snow to melt so I can get it out in the garage to start building! Although it does look pretty darn nice sitting in the kitchen too...LOL.
Hello Thom, I have to tell you, when I saw this video lasted 20 minutes my first though was "I'm not watching a 20 min video on that". I'm happy to tell you I not only saw it all, I enjoyed it. I commend you on a very well done video. And yes, I subscribed.
Maxretire thanks for the nice comment and question. The dust setup works really well very little sawdust remains in the cabinet. The vacuum of air seems to keep the router fairly cool when running for extended periods. I have bought an adapter for the four inch from Rockler that has a 2 in top port for the fence so now I have just one hose to hook up.
Nice work Thom, I am contemplating buying a Kreg router table and was leaning towards a bench top mount, but your design now has me leaning towards the full table rig. I saw the cabinet design for the Kreg table cabinet on their website only last night but I have to say I prefer your design. It is actually simpler in design while being more practical and, dare I say, more classy.
Thanks for making such a great video of this build! I just bought a Bench Dog steel frame and this gives me some ideas about how to construct modules around the router dimensions. I liked the pegboard solution, though pegboard doesn't work for me. French cleats and/or magnetic bars in that area instead. Same concept, given the way you built it out to attach to the cabinet and make use of that space. Very nice work!
Thanks for watching Patrick, The bottom drawer is riding in a dado 7/8 of an inch from the bottom of the side. (Check video at 1:04 minutes). Once you place the 3/4 inch thick bottom of the box between the sides this leaves an 1/8 of an inch clearance. Hope that makes sense. Let me know if I can be of any further help.
Great video! Your editing was very good. Kept me watching the entire thing. No dead air or wasted time. Also, your modifications to the Kreg design make a lot of sense and are an improvement to their design, in my opinion. Your sliding tray type drawers are a simple and efficient design. I'm getting ready to upgrade to this table and fence soon. I have a Jointech router lift. (Made by Jessem, I believe) It should fit perfectly. Very glad I found your video. Will definitely refer back to it when I get my Kreg table. Thanks!
I liked the sliding drawer design as well... much less complicated than the Kreg way of using extension drawer slides. But, there needed to be some explanation about the changes in the width of the tray type drawers because - using Kreg's measurements - along with the suggestion of putting them in via dados, the sliding trays need to be 1" wider than what the plans call for. This was not clearly explained in the video. Thankfully, I cut my plywood to size in such a way that I have extra to cut new bit drawers.
Fbtool, The Jessem is a perfect fit in the Kreg table. I don't screw down my lift the weight is enough to hold it in place. He Kreg plate levelers work fine for making the plate level with the surface but the screw holes in the Jessem don't match up with the holes in the Kreg leveler brackets. Jessem does sell replacement bracket levelers for the Kreg table for I think $20 if you really want to screw your lift down. I have a Porter cable 7518 in my lift, plenty of weight to hold it in place. I think the magnet inserts in the incra are a great idea. The jessem uses a two pin wrench so the incra eliminates that. Either one is a great choice. I really love the Jessem lift.
Just redesigned my kreg router table cabinet and changed things up to favor this design more. i put vent holes in the front door ... so when the dust collector is on it can get the proper air flow and operate more efficiently. thanks for the video and link to the plans... i cant for the life of me find my coupon so i could down load the plans for this project.
Thom, Love the video..First found it a couple of months ago, I have almost the same set up as you. The Kreg table , JessEm Master Lift II , and the big PC router. The only thing I did differently was I was worried about make up air for the router so instead of the door, I built a panel made of plexiglass and wrapped in the 3/4" plywood. (Kinda stole the idea from Norm's Deluxe router table, It acts as my door and allows air to get to my router. Other than that it looks identical. Thanks Thom for the inspiration!
Thanks for the video! Looks great and your pegboard installation is a lot better than the Kreg version with spaces on the sides. I'm currently building one based on the original Kreg design and running into a lot of issues following their parts/cut lists. For example, they specify 16" full extension drawer glides for 17-1/4 drawers (18-3/4 with sides)!
Hey Thom, Pleased to meet you via UA-cam. I purchased a Kreg router table last year and still waiting for it to arrive, grrrr. Anyway, loved your video on the Kreg cabinet (and Ive subscribed 🙂) so I went looking for the plans so I am ready to go when my table finally arrives. Unfortunately, the plans don't seem to exist anymore, are you able to help with that? Cheers! Bill (Adelaide, Australia)
Thanks for watching and subscribing. It’s great to meet you also. I just tried to find the plans and I didn’t see them either. I have them on my phone. Just email me at Backyardwoodshop@gmail.com. And ask for the kreg router cabinet plans. And I’ll send them to you.
Great video. Very well thought out modifications to the cabinet. I'm thinking of getting the big Triton router to go with the Kreg table top, but kinda worried about the fence - which looks a little flimsy on video. Are you happy with the Kreg stand, top and fence all together? Also, I just bought two Shopsmith 500's. Glad to see that someone else likes 'em as much as I do. I subscribed, of course. UA-cam videos are much better than TV.
Thanks for watching and subscribing, The whole kreg setup is rock solid, the fence is very rigid and well made. Also I purchased a triton router for my other router table this past December. Triton routers are well made and with the built in lift very affordable.
Excellent video Thom. Am upgrading my router work production and am looking at the Kreg Router table. Am certainly happy with other Kreg products. I found an old internet link to the cabinet plans but that link is dead. Would you by chance be willing to part with a pdf copy of the plans or can you point me to a link that is still active? Thanks again for the video. Keep up the good work.
Hi Thom. Thanks for making this video even though it’s been about six years since you produced it! I have had a Kreg router table for several years and I’m finally getting around to enclosing it. Using Kreg’s instructions along with Mark Eaton‘s ideas and some great ideas that you showed here, I’ve got more than I need to build a nice cabinet. I don’t remember if your video showed it but I am curious as to how you sealed off your cabinet from the bottom side of the router table top in order to make it more airtight for dust collection. Thanks again.
Thom, Great video and modification to the original Kreg cabinet design. I received the Kreg router table and several accessories for Christmas and look forward to using your design to build the cabinet. I noticed you have the Ridgid Oscillating Edge/Belt Spindle Sander in the background. I am considering purchasing one and wondered how you like it. I am in the process of setting up a small shop in the basement and it would be my only stationary sander. Thoughts? Again, thanks for the great video.
Fran, thanks for watching The Rigid sander is the best one I've used especially for a small shop. The price is right and warranty. Good luck with the cabinet.
I like your improved modification of the original plan. I've been under the impression that increased airflow was needed and included an open slot in the front of the table. I was wondering if making that router life cover drawer 1/2" shorter would improve airflow by having a sheet of air enter that bay from the top front and pick up the dust as the air moves to the bottom collection port. Given your larger dust collector and its suction, it seems as if you'd need greater airflow by opening the front and the opening from the bit. That slanted board would also improve airflow by closing off the front bottom dead-air flow part of that enclosed space. I'd appreciate your thoughts given your own experience with your dust collector and whether it is laboring due a shortage of airflow with the more closed off environment. Thank you. I like your more practical plan.
I like your style a lot, new subscriber. I couldn't help but notice you have a nice thick and chunky edge banding on the MDF extension table. How'd you go about attaching the solid wood banding to the mdf?
Alexis Thanks for subscribing, I really appreciate the compliment. I used glue and pocket hole screws from underneath to attach the board. Then I just planed the wood flush.
I'm really glad I came across this video. Nice work. The Kreg instructions and video are not all that clear, although I got the idea. Incidentally, what did you do about the router fence dust port? Do you connect that to a separate extractor/vacuum or did you connect it to the under-table box? Cheers Max
Thanks for question and watching Romi, I bought a dust port splitter from Rockler, now I just hook up my 4 inch dust collector. The splitter has 2-1/2 in port on top that I attached a short piece of hose to go to the fence works well.
Thom, Awesome video. I am brand new at woodworking ( 8 months), my first major purchase was this exact router table, I really like what you have done with the changes,I was wondering if you have the plans for the changes you made to the existing plans from kreg. I have their plans and have bought the plywood was about to start within the next couple days, and then saw this video and would much rather build yours instead. Thanks Barry
Barry, thanks for watching, I used the kreg plans to build my cabinet and just put dados in place where I wanted my trays to go. Sorry, I didn't make any plans for my change.
Thom I just bought the complete Kreg Table assm. They had a special (like I think you got) came with just about every accessory they make:-) I just watched your video again and I want to build your cabinet soon! .My question is I still want a lift. I got a good price on the Kreg but didn't buy it just not quite what I wanted. I like the Jessem or better the Incra (a Jessem) with the mag inserts. It looks like you have a Jessem? Any problems fitting it to a Kreg table with the corner supports?
Awesome build! I’m close to having mine done! I made a raised box for my above the table switch with a channel to hide the wires. Would like to show, but not sure how I can do that.
How did you attach the drawer fronts to the bit shelves? That's not clear on the video. I love your modifications to the orginal plans and the video has been very helpful.
Thank you for watching. The cabinet keeps everything with the table. It will speed up your setups by not having to leave the router table to get a tool or bit.
HI I like what you did with the on-off switch I just order my kreg router table and as far as your shop smit and tool that last 20 years is a great tool you put on a great show I hope to see more you do a great job talk to you later I got 14 more of your show to watch
Thoroughly outstanding video and a terrific job on the cabinet! Very much liked your mods. Can you say where you got the plans for it? I'm thinking of picking up a Kreg router table & Triton 3 HP router.
Great video. Thanks. I just bought the Kreg Precision Router Table Kit. As I assembled it, I stole your idea of mounting the switch above the table. Superb idea. Works great. BTW, do you know where I can get the Kreg pans for the cabinet? They are not on the website. Thanks again. Dave
Hey, sweet post. Just noticed you have a Jessem Mast-R-Lift II in your setup and I had a question for you. I have the same setup and have found some play between the lift and the space in the table top. I can move it a small bit up and down, left and right. The screw holes don't match up either to bolt it down. Did you encounter this? And what did you do to make it completely solid?
Mustafa, Thanks for watching. The solution to your problem is in my other video. The part number is in the description. Check it out, ua-cam.com/video/tC6up-VTu5Y/v-deo.html
Thanks for the fast reply! Really appreciated the help...unfortunately I gave Jessem a call and they don't ship outside of Canada for patent reasons with Kreg or something...Dang! Guess I'll try to figure something else out.
First of all, thanks for doing this video, I plan to do this with my Kreg router table as well. Question for you, did you have any issues with your router motor getting hot? I know there's always a concern about sawdust and debris falling back toward the motor but it also looked like maybe the air intake over the motor could get obstructed easier. Has this been an issue for you with this cabinet plan?
Thanks for watching. I have not had any issues with the motor getting hot, I usually have the dust collector hooked up so there is air being pulled through the cabinet space which helps keep the motor cool as well as removing the sawdust. Good luck with your build.
Nice job. I am wondering how you sealed between the top of the box and the bottom of the router table top. There is too much space on mine and The dust collector does not work for removing the sawdust from the space around the router.
Thanks. I just measured the space and made the pieces fit snug, then just used super glue to hold them in place. They are just air blockers really. Hope that helps. Good luck.
I notice a lot of people don't give much space between router and shelf below it. When you remove the router, it needs space to drop down. So do some people just never remove their router? What about for cleaning and maintenance? Or, does it go without saying that the shelf below the router should be removable?
Thanks for watching, most of the time you lift the router out with the router lift if you need to clean. The shelf on mine is fixed in place. I normally don't remove the router because I'm running dust collection, so it stays clean.
Nice Vedic, I am in the process of building this cabinet in my kreg router. My question is what dust collection do you use, I have a mark 5 and a shop smith dust collection system not sure if that will work ?
Michael Busby the only plans I used were kregs and I just made some small changes. Here's a link to there plans www.kregtool.com/webres/Files/projectplans/router-table-cabinet.pdf
If you could rebuild the router table storage for your KREG would you do it different, after you have used this storage on your Kreg for the past few years?
Thom... I am planning to use the dual dust collection method you have used. But a friend told me that will cut down on the air flow, thus taxing the dust collector. What has been your experience?
Good job Thom! I was wondering if after you have started using the setup, how the DC is working out? Also. Is heat from the enclosed router an issue? Thanks
Thom do you have any additional information regarding the rear power switch mount? I really like the idea and would like to replicate your design. Thanks
Thom, sorry I was not more specific. I was wondering how you specifically mounted the wooden block to the Kreg table frame? I have the Kreg switch, and have a piece of aluminum angle, just not sure how to mount it to the frame/cabinet. Thanks, in advance for taking the time to consider my request. I can send you a picture of the cabinet when it is complete for the website. Thanks
+Joseph Lux I just put some screws through the holes already in the frame, on the inside of the frame, just mount the block before you push the cabinet in place. I hope this helps. Don't hesitate to ask any further questions.
Very good build. I have a ShopSmith 510 as well and while I use my Jet JWTS table saw for most cutting, I use my ShopSmith for drilling, sanding, bandsaw and of course the lathe. Awesome tool!

I'm kind of jealous of your Shop Smith drill press. That is pretty slick being able to use the fence! Good job and thanks for the video!
Many thanks for this well-done video about how to further improve the already very nice Kreg table.
Thanks so much for this. Very helpful ideas for the modifications and also the practical assembly. I just bought this table system yesterday and had no intention of adding a cabinet.... I do now.
Thanks for watching. Enjoy your new system
Nice! When you designed the pull out bit shelves/drawers without the bearing slides, I was thinking WHAT THE HECK! But once you put it all together and gave a demo, I completely get it and think it's an AWESOME idea!

Nice Job. I am going to use this design to suprise my father in-law and do his Kreg table. Thanks for your detail video. Stay safe woodworking.
Thanks Robert I'm sure he will love it.
Thom:
Thanks for sharing your ideas and knowledge. I just picked up the Kreg table and was thinking about how to set it up. Thanks to your excellent video, I have it all figured out now. Keep up the great videos!
Best regards,
Ron
Thanks so much Ron.
Nice job on the router cabinet Thom.I like the alteration you did concerning the router bit storage. It makes better sense to me.I look forward to seeing newer videos from you.Take care.
thanks Thom for the video. I'm new to woodworking and appreciate your explanations. Your end result looks great.
Thanks for watching Angie
wow, that looks great thom! good idea for those slideout trays for bit storage, and really like that pegboard on the side. also really liked how you mounted the on/off switch up top in a safe place. thanks for the video!!
Thanks for watching and the kind words
Fantastic Job! I love the idea of moving the power switch and using Dado's instead of drawer slides. I'm in the process of building this and will definitely be using those ideas. Thanks again!
Thank you for watching and enjoy your build.
Outstanding video - really appreciate the way you walked me through the entire project.
Thanks for the kind words
Thom, I'm thinking about buying the Kreg and saw your video. I was concerned about not having dust collection below. This is really a cut way above most of the "how to" videos out there and I really like your ideas. Well done, I'm subscribing!
Very nice work, I like the drawer slides , and the switch up high!
+INFIDEL912 thanks for watching
That's a really well thought out design you have there Thom. I installed an old Wolfcraft cast aluminum table router in the end of my tablesaw which frees up some of my shop space. However, since I attach my router fence to the tablesaw fence setups of depth of router cut on a horizontal plane are proving to be a real pain. I'm looking at purchasing one of these Kreg tables and like your setup. Will probably follow your lead on this one.
Kreg makes a great table. I have switched over to the Incra Fence system now.
Thank you very much Sir! Very professionally presented and thanks you for the woodworking tips. I am inspired to copy that.
Thank you for watching
Great video, I was looking for info on Kreg PRS3000 Precision Router Table Lift, I have it with the Kreg table and I think I will do exactly what you have done ....thanks for taking the time to share your build with us :)
Thank you for watching. The kreg lift is made by Jessem. They make great products.
Thanks for showing the build. Nicely done and great ideas!
+AlanDennis1947 thanks for watching
It's been a lot of years since you made this vid, and unfortunately, I can't find the plans you referenced in this video. This by far is my favorite take on building out the kreg router stand. I'm finally getting one myself, my first router table ever.
Email Backyardwoodshop@gmail.com I still have the plans and can send them to you.
Fbtool,
Thanks for watching and Subscribing.
I appreciate your kind words, The Kreg table is very accurate with a lot of features I'm really enjoying using it.
I would recommend it to everyone.
WOW! You are an amazing craftsman! Thanks for sharing, I defiantly subscribed.
Thank you that means a lot to me.
Thank you for watching and enjoy your new cabinet
Thanks for sharing, I just bought this Kreg table and was surfing looking for ideas. You did a very good job putting this together.
+thom rider
Hi Thorm, sorry for my oversight, I should have included the sorce of the idea for improving the dust collection box.
Thank you.
+Hickory Homes Thank you
Thom - great video - thanks for producing it. I will be taking possession of a new Kreg router table tomorrow; already have a new, unboxed Incra lift and a new, unboxed Porter Cable 892 router. Hoping all will fit together as nicely as your stuff appears to.
Jim Bennett
+Jim Bennett Actually, I meant an unopened/boxed life and router!!!
+Jim Bennett yes that's exactly my setup I got the adapter from rockler.
Thanks Donald I appreciate the kind comments.
I have some new videos in the works.
Excellent thinking all through the build.
Thank you and thanks for watching.
The bit is a Rockler raised panel bit. Thank you for watching and enjoy your new router table.
Hello Thom, I have to tell you, when I saw this video lasted 20 minutes my first though was "I'm not watching a 20 min video on that". I'm happy to tell you I not only saw it all, I enjoyed it. I commend you on a very well done video. And yes, I subscribed.
Thanks so much I really appreciate it
Well done. Nicely produced video and great explanation of your work. Thanks for posting this.
Thanks for watching, I appreciate your comments.
Great work! I’ll be using your ideas for the drawers and switch.
Thank you for watching
Nice work Thom,
I am contemplating buying a Kreg router table and was leaning towards a bench top mount, but your design now has me leaning towards the full table rig.
I saw the cabinet design for the Kreg table cabinet on their website only last night but I have to say I prefer your design. It is actually simpler in design while being more practical and, dare I say, more classy.
Thanks Mick,
You won't be disappointed with either kreg router table. I use mine constantly. Good kuck
Thanks for watching and good luck with your build.
Thanks for watching Patrick,
The bottom drawer is riding in a dado 7/8 of an inch from the bottom of the side. (Check video at 1:04 minutes). Once you place the 3/4 inch thick bottom of the box between the sides this leaves an 1/8 of an inch clearance. Hope that makes sense. Let me know if I can be of any further help.
Got the bottom drawer for both sides figured out; how high up on each side did you cut the dado for the upper drawers?
Just what I was looking for. Going to build mine tomorrow. Thanks for the video!
Thanks!
Thanks for watching and the kind words Frank
I liked the sliding drawer design as well... much less complicated than the Kreg way of using extension drawer slides. But, there needed to be some explanation about the changes in the width of the tray type drawers because - using Kreg's measurements - along with the suggestion of putting them in via dados, the sliding trays need to be 1" wider than what the plans call for. This was not clearly explained in the video. Thankfully, I cut my plywood to size in such a way that I have extra to cut new bit drawers.
Sorry, I must have missed the dimension explanation on that one. Glad you still made it work.
Fbtool,
The Jessem is a perfect fit in the Kreg table.
Thanks for watching and subscribing. You will like the Kreg setup when you get it Docdaugh. Venting has not been an issue for me.
Sounds like you are all set.
Thanks for watching kentonohio,
Your gonna really love the kreg table it's awesome.
Thank you! Very informative and this may be my next project. I have a small shop and need organization.
Thank you for watching a
Patrick, the 1/8 is clearance under the bottom shelf. The dados are 3/8 in. Deep on each side for support. Hope this clarifies.
Love the Shop Smith in action, don't see a lot of those in use! I have this Kreg table and these are good ideas
Thank you for watching, I use my shopsmith all the time, it been very useful all these years. The Kreg is an excellent tool
Thom,
Love the video..First found it a couple of months ago, I have almost the same set up as you.
+Ali Maleki thanks for watching, good luck with your build. Sounds like your having some fun.
Nice work! Great use of space!
Thanks for watching Anthony
Hey Thom,
Pleased to meet you via UA-cam.
Thanks for watching and subscribing,
The whole kreg setup is rock solid, the fence is very rigid and well made.

I just filled the space with scrap wood.
Fran, thanks for watching
The Rigid sander is the best one I've used especially for a small shop.
Fantastic job!
Your an artist I think I may but the router table now :)
I like your style a lot, new subscriber. I couldn't help but notice you have a nice thick and chunky edge banding on the MDF extension table. How'd you go about attaching the solid wood banding to the mdf?
Alexis
Thanks for subscribing, I really appreciate the compliment.
Cheers
Max
Thanks for question and watching Romi,
I bought a dust port splitter from Rockler, now I just hook up my 4 inch dust collector.
Thanks
Barry
Barry, thanks for watching,
I used the kreg plans to build my cabinet and just put dados in place where I wanted my trays to go. Sorry, I didn't make any plans for my change.
ok great, I will start my attempt it tomorrow
Thanks again
very good job nice cabinets
Thom I just bought the complete Kreg Table assm. They had a special (like I think you got) came with just about every accessory they make:-) I just watched your video again and I want to build your cabinet soon! .My question is I still want a lift. I got a good price on the Kreg but didn't buy it just not quite what I wanted. I like the Jessem or better the Incra (a Jessem) with the mag inserts. It looks like you have a Jessem? Any problems fitting it to a Kreg table with the corner supports?
Very nice. Great skills.
Thank you.
Ray-55 thank you for watching
Excellent vid and instructions. Exactly what I was looking for. I know I’m late to the game on this vid but THANKs anyway.
Thank you for watching
Awesome build! I’m close to having mine done! I made a raised box for my above the table switch with a channel to hide the wires. Would like to show, but not sure how I can do that.
Thanks for watching. You can always send me pics or video to backyardwoodshop@gmail.com
Would love to see your design.
Sent you an email!👍🏻
Let me know what ya think!
How did you attach the drawer fronts to the bit shelves? That's not clear on the video. I love your modifications to the orginal plans and the video has been very helpful.
Pocket hole screws
Just set up my Kreg table and think I am going to take a stab at this cabinet, great idea.
Thank you for watching. The cabinet keeps everything with the table. It will speed up your setups by not having to leave the router table to get a tool or bit.
HI I like what you did with the on-off switch I just order my kreg router table
and as far as your shop smit and tool that last 20 years is a great tool
you put on a great show I hope to see more you do a great job talk to you later
I got 14 more of your show to watch
Thoroughly outstanding video and a terrific job on the cabinet! Very much liked your mods. Can you say where you got the plans for it? I'm thinking of picking up a Kreg router table & Triton 3 HP router.
+Daniel Balfour Thank you
The plans are on the kreg website:

BACKYARD WOODSHOP Great video. I've already started making the cabinet for my Kreg router table. Thanks for the ideas!
+russojdr thanks for watching and good luck on your cabinet.
Awsome video as usual Thom! Keep em coming
Dave
Thanks for watching.
Here you go

FYI. The link taks you too the plans, but when you try to download, you get "Page Doesn't Exist" error. Not a big deal, just wanted you to know.
Just email me at backyardwoodshop@gmail.com. And I can give you the whole plan.

Great Job, thanks for sharing

Hey, sweet post. Just noticed you have a Jessem Mast-R-Lift II in your setup and I had a question for you. I have the same setup and have found some play between the lift and the space in the table top. I can move it a small bit up and down, left and right. The screw holes don't match up either to bolt it down. Did you encounter this? And what did you do to make it completely solid?
Mustafa,
Thanks for watching.
I just put in wood to fill the space. Thanks for watching.
@@thomrider Thanks for replying so fast. I am looking and figuring how to do that with wood. You sure made a great video.
Got'cha! Thanks! I'm a newbie/hobbyist and don't quite need a router lift yet. I think I'll make my self removable
Nice Vedic, I am in the process of building this cabinet in my kreg router. My question is what dust collection do you use, I have a mark 5 and a shop smith dust collection system not sure if that will work ?
The Shopsmith dust collection should work fine. I used my shop vac before I had my Jet.
great video. how did you attach bit drawers to the bits, i.e. , the four pine facings. pocket screws ?
+Wayne Morris thanks for watching.
I used pocket hole screws with no glue so I can change the trays if I want a new configuration.
Awesome Video. Can you please post a link to the plans for the cabinet? I can't seem to find them.
Michael Busby the only plans I used were kregs and I just made some small changes. Here's a link to there plans www.kregtool.com/webres/Files/projectplans/router-table-cabinet.pdf
excellent job--thanks for a great video
Tim Davey thanks so much for watching
Great job,,,,Looks awesome!
Thanks for watching
Looks great! Good switch mod as well.
Thank you.
If you could rebuild the router table storage for your KREG would you do it different, after you have used this storage on your Kreg for the past few years?
I would leave it the same. Works great for me.
Thom... I am planning to use the dual dust collection method you have used. But a friend told me that will cut down on the air flow, thus taxing the dust collector. What has been your experience?
I’ve had no issues.
Thanks Thom! @@thomrider
Good job Thom! I was wondering if after you have started using the setup, how the DC is working out? Also. Is heat from the enclosed router an issue?
Thanks
So where do I get the plans you showed....thanks. Liked your presentation
Kreg website.
Thom do you have any additional information regarding the rear power switch mount? I really like the idea and would like to replicate your design. Thanks
+Joseph Lux the switch is from Kreg, I just used aluminum angle and a block of wood. It's was easy to do. Thanks for watching.
Great job, to the point and no BS thanks!!
Thank you.
Subscribed, great video, on my build list.
