  • Buy parts for your Yamaha Grizzly YFM700 CV boot replacement: bit.ly/yamaha-Grizzly-CV-boot-...
    We’ll show you how to replace the CV boots on your Yamaha ATV in this video from Partzilla.com. This job will take two different part numbers to get both boots you need for the half shaft, so check out the link above to get both part numbers AND the Yamalube race grease you’ll need for the reassembly.
    Once we get the wheel off, we’ll dig in and disconnect the hub so that we can access the half shaft. Then, we’ll show you how to remove the half shaft on your Yamaha ATV so that we can get it over to the bench.
    The clips Yamaha uses to hold the CV boots in place are pretty easy to use. The kit comes with new ones, but in a pinch they can be reused and they do not require and special tools to get them in place and tightened down. Once we get the CV boots replaced on our Yamaha Grizzly, we’ll get the half-shaft back on, re-mount the hub, and get the wheel back in place. Pay attention along the way: John will give you the exact torque specs Yamaha requires for these very important bolts that hold your front suspension together.

    Excellent tutorial video, much appriciated, Thank you. I just finished the front outside CV joint boot on a 2015 700 grizzly. If I may add a couple comments. Only the lower ball joint needs to be separated. There is enough room to remove the axle shaft from the hub, just rotate the hub up and out. No need to separate the steering or the upper ball joint. On some model (my 2015) the metal boot clamp is not reusable. Make sure your kit comes with clamps. When removing (hammering) the joint to get it off the axle (@ 5:45) it is best to use a brass (soft metal) hammer. You can also put tension -(pulling straight outward )and hit the outside part of the joint, no need to aim for the inner part. Again, use a brass hammer if you can. The joint/balls get much more abuse riding in rocky off-road than a single hammer blow. My background is being a Honda(car) mechanic. Replaced countless CV boots and joints after some nasty Chicago winter. The cars use the same style of CV shaft, slightly larger than the ATV's.

    Just an FYI people..you ONLY need to unbolt your lower ball joint..the lower control arm and spindle moved aside gives you enough room to simply slide out your axle and save time and aggravation undoing the top ball joint and tie rod.

    Good job.... you already know that though.... you are the man that I go to when I need help with my bike..... I'm replacing a lot of things..... ball joints.... hub bearings ...CV axle rebuilding and so on ..... I watch a lot of your videos....... heating the hubs up and then taking out your ball bearings is a lot easier ..... I learned that from another UA-camr .....and also a good tip ......I don't know if you do that .....but that would be good to add in all the little tricks and trades....... thank you very much...............jon_jon.......JJ....

    Hello. very clear video.. if I want to adapt to a home made buggy this front stering knuckle... do I need all the shaft mechanism so that the wheel spins.. I do not want in my buggy 4wd.. just want on the back so can I avoid this? I think this yamaha system is strong enough for a buggy jumping and this kind of thing. thank you and regardss.

    Easy enough until axle clip gets behind the CV joint assembly. Can hook it and grab it with needle nose pliers, but I don't think there is any hope of getting it out. With all the grease I didn't see that it wasn't on the axle when I tried to get it back in. Ended up just pushing it to bottom of cup... Any thoughts? I did order a factory clip for $9! I might have been able to find another one elsewhere, but not certain on size. Any issues with leaving the other one in there? Seems like it shouldn't hurt anything. This was the rear axle I was working on.

    Hello from Russia, John. I really appreciate your channel - the best technical ATV channel. Please give me an advise how to act. When I was removing an axle (for changing a boot), I had to use special tool (I used ball puller for removing upper joint). I was adjusting the tool under the joint and at that moment a little grease came out, the joint boot isn't damaged. Now I am going to install the axle back. Do I need to add some grease into the joint boot using a plastic syringe? Is that case normal or may be I damaged something?

    • @jayone7437
      @jayone7437 5 років тому

      I use the rims. That way the suspension is free to do what it wants on rough roads. With the Atv in park or the park brake engaged, hook a strap to the rear rim web and secure it to the front of the pickup box or trailer. Then hook to the front rim web and secure the strap to the back of the pick up box or trailer. Do this on both sides and the Atv will not move. And yes your rims are strong enough to handle these stresses.
