This is truly an honest and unbiased review, which is extremely hard to find for Eightsleep products when most are just infomercial videos. My wife and I have had Pod 4 for two weeks and did notice the improvement of sleep quality, and it’s likely we will keep it. But I completely agree that the subscription model and the black-box of autopilot (how did it actually improve my sleep by increasing and decreasing 1-2 degrees all over night without any explanation) make it a very tricky product and experience. And warranty period is just too short for a $2,500 + product. Let alone people with Pod 2 and 3 had a much higher chance of experiencing leak over time.

Thank you for calling out their subscription based service. This is why I have chosen not to get their product. Great review.

That and the need for a constant internet connection. I don't want devices that don't need internet to stop working without it, or be forced into updates that can remove functionality.

It's a hefty sub and yeah, the required constant internet connection is stupid. This thing costs more than twice as much as my smart mattress, and that makes absolutely no sense to me. The margins on these things must be sky high. Pass.

Preach, brother! The Eight Sleep subscription is absolute garbage. I didn't even realized I had signed up for a subscription when I first purchased my pod. I canceled that trash at light speed when I saw the renewal charge come in. I already bought the product! Why do I need a subscription? I felt tricked.
I have a Pod 2 Pro on a spring mattress. On one hand, Eight Sleep has completely changed how I sleep. It's AC, but for the bed. Being able to use the exact same covers all year round is fantastic. There's no such thing as a night that is too hot or cold anymore. In fact, I now sleep under a heavy weighted blanket and it too has dramatically improved my sleep. When I travel, I miss my Eight Sleep bed so much. I never want to sleep in a bed without temperature control again.
However, on the other hand I hate Eight Sleep. The subscription is predatory and stupid. The autopilot feature is exactly as smart as you think it'd be: dumb as hell. I gave it a real honest shot but after a month of it waking me up at 4 or 5 every morning I turned it off. I'm a couple versions behind on the Pod 2, but I've had two mattress covers and both have only provided cooling/heat in a limited area. While Eight Sleep advertising makes it look like the entire mattress is heated/cooled nearly edge to edge, I don't feel any temperature control above my nipples or below my knees. The heating/cooling still works, but occasionally my body is super hot and to cool sufficiently I have to make the central part of the mattress feel like the arctic while the edges of the mattress remain warm. My pod is much, much noisier than yours too. In fact, it's so loud that ear plugs are required to sleep. It sounds like there are some squeaky wheels inside my pod. I'm very much considering an upgrade when the pod 5 comes out. It would sure be neat if the comforter could have water running through it too.

I recently clicked on an ad for this and, like I always do, formulated a ballpark estimated price in my mind based on the headline "what this thing does." That estimate was about $400. When I saw the actual price, my jaw dropped. Then I read that you had to have a subscription and was like "wtf."

    One question
I saw some reviewers said that this can effectively replace the need of ac in your bedroom ,so u can save on electricity bills ,which u can spend on its subscription 😅 ,it that true?

I will absolutely never by an 8Sleep product for two reasons. One, the always online requirement. For the basic features it doesn't require an internet susbcription at all, but will stop working without active internet connection. This also allows them to force you into updates and change terms of how you use the device you paid for. This leads to the next point which is tha change in the subscription, which now locks basic features behind it, as if the product isn't overpriced as is. Even then, I'd be willing to pay that price if it wasn't for those issues I mentioned.
