Good in concept, bad in excution. I personally loved these games as a kid but honestly the games become mindless button mashers once you have enough figures. And even then, you can beat most levels with relative ease using just the starter set. So the game is not very engaging as a result. Still loved collecting the toys though.

Skylanders is a game made for kids and so it immediately has that against it. However, I do believe that Activision managed to make such a complex and simple game that reaches in every direction possible. Skylanders needed to be able to be beaten by an 8-year-old, and that's why the 'boss' battle is easy - but if you look even the slightest bit away from the core of the 'boss' battle you are immediately faced with challenges and gameplay elements that I would argue rival the likes of an older player. It's an open-world game, for the most part at least, and that makes it encourage exploration. From collecting sky stones to unlocking unique challenge levels, Skylanders always gives you something to achieve. The story mode is (I would assume) hardly a sixth of the game, but less than a tenth of the challenge it has to offer. (that was long)
Just got into Skylanders in 2019 with my 5 year old daughter and boy am I happy I got in late. Spent a fraction of the cost and had a blast playing through all the games with her.
This comment is 100% the truth. Seriously, Skylanders produced some of the most memorable characters ever, especially in their early years. I hope some of them eventually get revamped and live beyond Skylanders.

There are so many cards by now, you want a lot of them just to get the chance to play with different kinds of decks and archetypes yet the budget players end up with those structure decks from the anime cast. I ended up with a cyberdragon deck, a dark magician deck, an odd eyes deck with all 4 supreme kinds and arc v dragons, a rokket deck I got recently for borrelload (and I don't regret it), and a cyberse deck. There's my old D\D\D pendulum structure deck (it did not age well). I also got some blue eyes cards mixed in with that old dragon's collide structure deck. And my last deck are just monarchs. I plan on buying 2 more rokket decks just to have a full on competitive rokket deck but damn it's so hard to keep up. Even duel links, either you pay to have all the latest cards, or you grind for hours on hours to roll booster packs for that one ur card you need 3 copies of and wait every 6 months for the ur ticket give away. Jeez the grind is bad. I enjoy duel links but it gets bad quick.

Skylanders will always hold a place in my heart as it was one of the main video games I played as a kid with my older brother (even if I was like three and didn't fully understand to play and my brother would mostly get mad at me when this happened.) It will always be a huge part of my memories from when I was still an innocent bean, but now, it's best we just let Skylanders, a dead franchise made by an even deader company, rest in peace... So there was this one time I sat on my brother's main, Double Trouble, and accidentally broke its head off in the process!

Thayen Ryan I've actually bought it before even buying the game, I didn't know about it, thought it was just collectable. This guy was broken by the way, he had an attack which would make him invincible for some short time and deal massive damage, I remember just spamming this ability to complete the game and it worked. That's kinda sad that he was nerfed later on into the series.
Nah Trap Team "killed" it. I like Trap Team AND Superchargers, but Trap Team is where they added a ridiculous amount of figures, cut a ridiculous amount of content, stopped adding to new characters and stopped letting them open any gates, and lowered the quality of everything tbh. And everyone played it and got burned by it. People just skipped Superchargers, the damage had been done before then. Again, I like them both. At the very least TT was part of a one-two punch. Just, Portal Master has a much longer rant on that, so you can look it up, if you want.
Perfect timing! revisited imaginators recently for achievement grinding and realized just how much i loved the series. Honestly still waiting for the 7th game someday.

Stealth Elf was always the dumbest and it bugs me how she dominates the speedruns of the first game Bash is strong but I wouldn't say OP, his range is shit and he has a lot of endlag; granted that he can tank any hits in the first game, but after that, definitely not OP, because getting hit is a much larger punishment. Like, I'll say, the first game is just easy, anyway. None of these games were super hard, but you did get legit difficulty (beyond some boss fights- like, yeah, some of the bosses in the first game are still a little hard) after they added difficulty modes. Then the subtleties came to matter more and were much more useful beyond just intrinsic fun and dicking around. Also don't forget Bumble Blast. I look at his balance and still wonder *why*. I remember banning him in PVP and my dad was really cut (he sucked at the games, so he could only win with really dumb tactics, and he was actually really irritating about it sometimes... and fighting Bumble Blast was just so, so unfun, you had to ban him- luckily my dad didn't catch onto a lot of other shit, but the whining about Bumble Blast, lord).

So did I. I played Spyro's Adventure, Giants, Swap Force, and Superchargers. I skipped Trap Team for some reason and I only played Superchargers for a little bit. But Skylanders was the shit my dude

There are so many cards by now, you want a lot of them just to get the chance to play with different kinds of decks and archetypes yet the budget players end up with those structure decks from the anime cast. I ended up with a cyberdragon deck, a dark magician deck, an odd eyes deck with all 4 supreme kinds and arc v dragons, a rokket deck I got recently for borrelload (and I don't regret it), and a cyberse deck. There's my old D\D\D pendulum structure deck (it did not age well). I also got some blue eyes cards mixed in with that old dragon's collide structure deck. And my last deck are just monarchs. I plan on buying 2 more rokket decks just to have a full on competitive rokket deck but damn it's so hard to keep up. Even duel links, either you pay to have all the latest cards, or you grind for hours on hours to roll booster packs for that one ur card you need 3 copies of and wait every 6 months for the ur ticket give away. Jeez the grind is bad. I enjoy duel links but it gets bad quick.

Skylanders will always hold a place in my heart as it was one of the main video games I played as a kid with my older brother (even if I was like three and didn't fully understand to play and my brother would mostly get mad at me when this happened.) It will always be a huge part of my memories from when I was still an innocent bean, but now, it's best we just let Skylanders, a dead franchise made by an even deader company, rest in peace...

Thayen Ryan I've actually bought it before even buying the game, I didn't know about it, thought it was just collectable. This guy was broken by the way, he had an attack which would make him invincible for some short time and deal massive damage, I remember just spamming this ability to complete the game and it worked. That's kinda sad that he was nerfed later on into the series.

Nah Trap Team "killed" it. I like Trap Team AND Superchargers, but Trap Team is where they added a ridiculous amount of figures, cut a ridiculous amount of content, stopped adding to new characters and stopped letting them open any gates, and lowered the quality of everything tbh. And everyone played it and got burned by it. People just skipped Superchargers, the damage had been done before then.
Again, I like them both.
At the very least TT was part of a one-two punch.

I do , he was my first Skylander , then Spyro , I bought both separately and released I had 2 ( I also got Cynder , I'm just got addicted to Spyro more than the others)

Stealth Elf was always the dumbest and it bugs me how she dominates the speedruns of the first game
Bash is strong but I wouldn't say OP, his range is shit and he has a lot of endlag; granted that he can tank any hits in the first game, but after that, definitely not OP, because getting hit is a much larger punishment.
Like, I'll say, the first game is just easy, anyway. None of these games were super hard, but you did get legit difficulty (beyond some boss fights- like, yeah, some of the bosses in the first game are still a little hard) after they added difficulty modes. Then the subtleties came to matter more and were much more useful beyond just intrinsic fun and dicking around.
Also don't forget Bumble Blast. I look at his balance and still wonder *why*. I remember banning him in PVP and my dad was really cut (he sucked at the games, so he could only win with really dumb tactics, and he was actually really irritating about it sometimes... and fighting Bumble Blast was just so, so unfun, you had to ban him- luckily my dad didn't catch onto a lot of other shit, but the whining about Bumble Blast, lord).
